Their fried chicken and gravy is delicious but very oily and fatty. The hostess was kind enough to find us a seat when most of the tables were reserved on a lovely Saturday evening. You should def book a reservation when coming here if u can… It is a cute, pretty loud place. I could hardly hear my date as we tried to converse throughout the night. We didnt get any of the drinks here but i think thats what alot of the people come here for. Not sure i will be back, bc of the salad lover i am, but this is def a cool place to check out if ur in the area and want to grab a drink and some salty snacks. :)

First review I’ve written on Unilocal.Been to a Rascal ½ a dozen times and it is fantastic. Last time they accommodated a quick dinner Friday night so we could head downtown for the Lakers game. Delicious food and wonderful service — some of the best in Los Angeles. Will be back soon.

I love Rascal. Happy hour is a great deal and the food is always good. I find they make the happy hour drinks on the weak side so order beer or wine. Burgers there are my favorite.

This was a great suggestions thanks to Unilocal! We looked up gastropubs around our area(we were coming back from the Museum of Tolerance) and Rascal popped up as good AND inexpensive $$. We went on a Monday and were told by the nice waitress that Mondays have all-night happy hour, YAYUH! We ordered the Mac and cheese, a burger, tater tots, 2 margaritas, and a sangria! All except for the tots($ 4) were $ 6! And it didn’t get too packed at all. Great recommendation, Unilocal! Pro: happy hour and food are really delicious! Con: parking. You can’t park around the streets there during evening rush hour. You haaaaave to do valet parking ProTip: sit at the corner couch table near the main entrance. It’s super comfy and you get a great view of everyone hustling and bustling around the place.

I always pass this place on my way to the gym and never really noticed it. I always thought this place was a coffee shop. We randomly found it on Unilocal when searching for nearby restaurants. When we stumbled in on a Monday, we realized that they had all night HH on Mondays for $ 6. Their HH menu is decent with a sandwich, hamburger, mac and cheese, and fried chicken. We decided to order items on both HH and regular menus. We ordered to following for food: 1. Short rib tater tots — came with arugula on top of the ribs. The tater tots broke apart when scooped. I’m a fan of tater tots, so it was worth going off the HH menu. 2. Mac and cheese — a little too watery for my taste. It also tasted like the cheese hadn’t melted thoroughly. 3. Fried chicken and gravy — chicken was very moist. The gravy was not overpowering. It reminded me of Honey’s Kettle chicken in Culver City. Worth it for $ 6. The best dish we ordered. 4. Lasagna — my friends loved it. I was indifferent about it. It had enough sauce to soak the pasta. Drinks: Moscow mule, margarita, and old fashioned. They are very generous with their alcohol. Worth the $ 6 moscow mules and margarita. There is valet parking in front. We found street parking, but it does get crowded since most of the inner/side streets are permit only after a certain time. Service was great. They also didn’t kick us out even though we had been there for at least 3 hours. Not too busy on a Monday night. Cute place for a date. We’ll be coming back again.

The chocolate bar MUST have — fried chicken and gravy and my friend loved his cross steak. The Mac /cheese isn’t bad either I recommend — good local spot. Daily happy hour specials as well.

I really want to like this place because this stretch of La Brea is kinda sad otherwise… but after a few visits, it’s still just meh. Had the fried chicken sandwich the other night and found it annoyingly hard to eat. The chicken(which didn’t have that signature crunch of fried chicken) was in 3 pieces on the bun, resulting in 2 falling out as I was chomping into it. Not well crafted. The side salad was clearly an afterthought – they need to take some tips from Republique on how to make a simple side salad that’s worth eating.(Doesn’t need to be fancy, just dressed well.) Also had the brussels sprouts for a second time and again, just meh. A little char on the sprouts would go a long way, as would a bit of salt or some crunchy bacon.

Really good happy hour here. For $ 6, you can get beer/wine/cocktails or food … the deal seems really good especially for someone coming from NYC. On the list of cocktails included moscow mules and margaritas … I tried the tater tots, vegetarian gyro(potatoes, tzaziki, hummus, veggies), and grilled cheese and all were delicious. The place was a bit empty when we arrived on a Tuesday at 6 ish, but it became filled later on in the evening. If youre in the area, the happy hour is recommended!

Stopped in Rascal after discovering it on Unilocal when I was in the area. Sat at the bar and decided to have a few drinks with my dinner. The owner, Sandy, tended the bar and was super nice. I had the Bolognese Pasta which was very tasty along with a glass of red wine. During my meal, Sandy gave me a taste of another red which he suggested works well with the pasta. That was really kind of him! After chatting a bit more and finishing up my meal, we began discussing scotches and he was generous enough to let me sample a blended scotch, Pig’s Nose. What a great way to finish my meal and I always enjoy chatting with the owner of an establishment. I’ll definitely be coming back to try other dishes and enjoy the vibe. The staff was very kind and the vibe was cool, very unique and fun. Food was great and service was fast!

Came here for happy hour right before watching a show at El Rey and was pleasantly surprised with the Happy Hour deals. I had a Margarita and it was delicious! Just strong enough. Not to mention the burger was very tasty! At 6 dollars, you definitely get the bang for your buck! Great ambiance! This is a HH gem! Our hostess Alisa was also really sweet and attentive. Will definitely be coming back!

Pros: –We were able to make a reservation –Waitress was nice and on top of things for the most part –There is valet service –Fish was lightly flaked and pretty fresh Cons: –Apparently the table they use for reservations is at the very back where one side of the table has employees making contortionist moves to avoid hitting anyone seated there. –My fish and chips came out at least a full 7 – 10 minutes before the other 3 burgers did, so they got slightly cold while I waited

I appreciate that there’s Happy Hour all night on Mondays but the food is beyond mediocre. The Vegetable Gyro was dry. There was barely any hummus or tzatzikiki so it just tasted like a piece of potato on pita bread. Ironically, the mac and cheese was too wet. It was downright watery. It was soup! Who makes their mac like that? Nobody in my family. Nobody.

I was disappointed. I was so excited to try Rascal — I mean they average four stars?!? I was getting a group together for happy hour — there ended up being 12 of us — and they were super accommodating with a reservation, they let the first to arrive sit before we were all there, our server was great… and I loved that she split the check for us with individual checks and the group service charge split and already added — that was GREAT for a large group. BUT, the food was not good in my opinion. Myself and one of my friends went with the fried chicken sandwich. Ugh. It was not a fried chicken breast. It was like 3 gross fried chicken nuggets stuck on a burnt bun with some greens. I asked her if hers was made the same way, and she said yes. I had realized it came with a habanero aioli — I don’t go for that spicy — so I asked for it without. But she hadn’t realized it and got it with it. She told me it was ridiculously spicy also. I would not recommend ordering the fried chicken sandwich. A couple of other folks in the group ordered the burger and said it was great and also cooked as requested. I will tell you both the fries and tater tots were good. Some folks got simple salad and said it was ok. And another friend ordered the gyro and again said, «ok», not great, just ok. I didn’t poll the entire table, but I feel like I got enough information to share that from a food perspective you should avoid the fried chicken sandwich and definitely go with the burger if you are so inclined. The happy hour pricing is good. Everyone said their drinks were good, so no complaints there. I guess maybe consider Rascal more for drinks and fries even, versus dinner? Again, great service, lovely people working there. Nice atmosphere too. But none of that could really overcome how disappointing the food was.

I’ve passed by this place driving home/to work several times and finally go the chance to come here with my roommates. It;s a nice small bar with $ 5 valet outside(though I read that you can get $ 2 with validation??). We tried 3 share items: Fried chicken with gravy, mac n cheese, and meatballs. I think all 3 items were just alright food. It was pretty good, but not THAT phenomenal. I’ll probably make my way back here again since I live so close and try their fried chicken sandwich and a Moscow mule. Maybe Ill come for their happy hour monday

Had been trying to make a stop at this place for months. Its not too far from where I live and just hadn’t made time. well, I am glad I did! The food is really good. It is somewhat of a tapas style since most of their servings are good enough to share and at the same time not get full. I would recommend getting about 4 – 5 dishes max between two people. I also tried their Moscow mule for Happy Hour and it was awesome, very tangy and not too strong. The interior is a long L shape design with original paintings and photographs. I really like their set up in general. There are plenty of tables and high tables for small to big groups. I would recommend making a reservation just in case. The customer service here was real good. Our waitress was very helpful and even gave us a heads up about last call for Happy Hour prices. I will definitely be back to this location soon.

Such a great place for dinner. I came here with the hubby for date night but it’s so nice to even come with a groups of friends or on a date. I recommend the tapas style plates that they have here. They have two sections where it says plates to share or mine. Prices are not bad at all, pretty average. Great customer service and food overall. They have valet parking in case you can’t find street parking which can be pretty hard.

Everytime I choose a place to eat, I like to look at the menu of the place and not judge directly on the star ratings on Unilocal because most of the time, my gut steers me to the right place. My friend chose this place to eat, and it was near enough to my work to go. Of course, there’s no parking in the area so we had to valet. The place itself was very empty but soon filled up around 6:30pm. The service was amazing, so it was hard to determine how to rate this place. The entire staff was very genuine and gave us time to make decisions. Even the chef himself came out to talk to us. However, the food was not just mediocre, but some were inedible. I ordered the crudo, which was the daily special, and it was the only good thing there! It was citrusy, a little bit spicy, and the fish was fresh. I wish I ordered 3 of these instead of the other items. The mac & cheese was very watery. It wasn’t ooey gooey and creamy like how I’ve had my other mac and cheeses. We asked the waitress if it’s supposed to be like a watery cheese mac soup and she said yes. We asked for them to send this back, and she did. Thank you. We ordered the fried chicken, and it was pretty good as well. The spices was what pulled this dish through, similar to the popcorn chicken at the boba shops. However the chicken wasn’t crispy like I would like. We ordered the grilled cheese and it was bad. The bread itself wasn’t toasted well, the cheese wasn’t fully melted and the tomato in there was cold. We ended up leaving hungry rather than ordering more food.

I really liked how low key Rascal was on a Friday night. We were able to wander in and get a table without a problem. They have a decent beer selection, and the food was better than okay, but not great. We wanted to start with the tuna tartare — their special appetizer of the night — but they were out. Instead, we split the brussels sprouts and I got the fried chicken sandwich. FRIEDCHICKENSANDWICH Although I love fried chicken(who doesn’t?) it’s not something that I usually let myself order. But I was starving and had been good that week so I went ahead and ordered it. Unfortunately, it was disappointing, and left me with a bit of regret each time I saw a fried chicken sandwich on the menu at other restaurants the rest of the weekend. There just wasn’t much to it — chicken on bread — and they totally used the wrong type of bread. Ciabatta is WAY too thick to be served with fried chicken. Not only did it not go, but it made an unhealthy sandwich that much unhealthier. They’d do better with almost any other type of bread or bun. But in the end, it was fried chicken and it wasn’t bad. BRUSSELSSPROUTS These were okay, nothing special. They didn’t have an enormous amount of flavor and came out but for the sauce lacked any color(they definitely could have used a little char). My bf had the turkey gyro which he said was«interesting» but«not a gyro». I’d come back here for drinks and to hang out, but probably not for food.

Place was very inviting and quaint. On Sunday they have game night and offer a ton of games for free for you to enjoy while you wine and dine!!! It was happy hour and those items were $ 6 The fried chicken with gravy was tasty and the Moscow mule was very refreshing! The short ribs with tater tots was yummy but it was a bit too tomatoey for me. That’s all I could taste.

Came to rascal for a late night midweek dinner. They serve food till 10:30pm. Perfect for those that take so long to figure out where to go. We each ordered a fried chicken sandwich. One with the standard salad and the second with a French fry upgrade. Not sure the price but supposed to be a few dollars more. The fried chicken part of the sandwich was amazing. The bun and slaw were a bit cold and it didn’t seem to go but I was too happy with the delicious chicken to notice much. The fries weren’t much to write home about but they went well with the sandwich. At the top of the menu was a note to tweet for 10% off. All over that. Happy hour is all day Monday and 5−7pm everyday.
