Suzie Q’s Fun Facts: The surname«Gupta» is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning«protector.» =≅≅≅≅≅≅ When you walk into a doctor’s office for the first time, you want to feel a certain way: Cared for. Heard. Understood. Instead, from nearly the moment I walked into Dr. Gupta’s office, I felt taken advantage of. Dismissed. Condescended to. I won’t go into detail here. But my observation is that this practice focuses more on burying its patients in excessive paperwork and hoops to jump through than on actual patient care. Oh, and after waiting months for Dr. Gupta to call my insurance company to pre-authorize a prescription after my single visit, she still hasn’t done so. I will never return.

I make a living with my voice, I have seen many voice docs through the years, and Dr. Gupta is the BEST! She is very thorough — her specialty is working with singers and people who use their voice professionally. She uses a stroboscope, versus the regular laryngoscope that most otolaryngologists use. This enables the doctor to actually view the vocal fold vibration. With the stroboscope, they are able to see many more details on the cords that the other kind of scope doesn’t always catch. I’ve seen many otolaryngologists/laryngologists over the years, but the technology they have is the best — and Dr. Gupta is great! Very sweet, patient, answers all your questions, etc… She studied singing herself and sang for many years and therefore has a deep understanding and appreciation for singers and their instrument. I am SO happy I found her. All voice professionals in the area should have her number in their book!

Hands DOWN my absolute favorite doctor. Not only did she have a great concern for me concerning my voice. I recently had another circumstance with my ear and she was extremely assertive and genuinely cared about my health. ALSO work very strenuous hours singing in TV and she is constantly checking up on me and very knowledgable of what to do and NOT do. on top if doing her best to work with my schedule. I am SET on dr Gupta!

In over ten years as a singer and professional voice teacher/vocal coach, I have worked with or learned from a number of the nation’s most heralded otolaryngologists. None of them has even come close to the level of professional understanding of the needs of contemporary singers as Dr. Gupta and her voice therapist, Amy Chapman. While otolaryngologists in Los Angeles generally have enough bedside manner to speak briefly with their high profile clients, in my experience most are either only concerned only with the highest profile cases, or are familiar with singers and singing only with regard to a clinical or surgical procedure. Although there’s a long, documented history of vocal health and knowledge with regard to classical and operatic singing, modern science only recently seems to be catching up with what the demands are of contemporary commercial singing. Where classical technique is rooted with pedagogical training and techniques, blues, pop, rock, R & B, singer-songwriter, and hip-hop are rooted in a meeting of African American blues and European harmony, and because of this development from folk music, there isn’t as long a history of applying voice science to contemporary singing, and most singers and even teachers today haven’t yet learned how to properly care for the voices of contemporary entertainers. Of every voice expert and otolaryngologist I’ve ever met or worked with, Dr. Gupta is by far the most up-to-date not only with medical/surgical science, but of the extreme demands of the work/singing routine it takes to be a professional singer. Dr. Gupta and Amy Chapman are by far the most knowledgeable, kind, and understanding team I’ve ever worked with, and I send any client who’s in vocal trouble to see them. As singers and music lovers themselves, both Dr. Gupta and Amy Chapman can model for my clients the healthy ways to use their voices instead of just telling them what to do. This, couple with their relaxed and caring bedside manner makes them the only people I trust to take care of my clients’ voices and my own voice. I’m so thrilled to have found an ENT practice that mirrors the same quality and care I like to take with each my clients, and I highly recommend Dr. Gupta and Amy Chapman at the Osborne Head and Neck Institute.
