I went to Scissors Sketch and had a wonderful experience. Having just moved to the neighborhood I was nervous about where to go for hair color. I have been working with a stylist in Chicago for months to get the color I wanted. I went in to ask if they could match the color and without hesitation, he brought back a swatch and said«this is it.» I scheduled an appointment for a cut and color right away. The color and cut was very reasonably priced and I was treated well from the moment I walked through the door. A perfect color match and very kind service. I will be making this place my go-to salon in LA.

Sarah and Thomas are the best! They’re officially my go-to people for haircuts in LA. Very low price but they do my hair with such care. Thomas was concerned about the dryness of my hair so he took time to explain how to adjust my shampoo/conditioner routine so I have healthier hair in the long run.

This place is AMAZING! I went into the shop with my bf. He needed a haircut and I wanted something different to celebrate the new year. My bf wanted an executive look for work while also being able to wear it for fun. They parted his hair into a new style and gave him exactly what he wanted. I walked in wanting a digital perm but after seeing a few pics in their books I opted to have a curlier perm. It took 2 hours for me and about 15 – 20 mins for my bf. The service was great. We have lived in koreatown for years and we know most establishments in ktown don’t speak English much but they catered to us very well. I watched a movie while getting my hair done and my boyfriend enjoyed his green tea and wifi. We paid $ 160 for my perm, his cut, and serum for my hair. We loved our experience here, and we’ll definitely go back.

I got my hair straightened here with what they called a Magic Straight. They were so nice and respectful. They did a great job and it lasted for almost 2~years. my hair was so manageable and smooth looking. When my new hair grew in it was very healthy and strong. I took a while to post this review cause i had not expected it to last so long, but it did and i have no lasting bad side effects. In fact my hair is in such great shape now that I don’t even have to straighten it at all. very happy with the service and I highly recommend it.

I came back 2 months after my Magic Straight to do the hair color. Jina,(I finally remembered her name) was very careful not to get my post magic straight hair damaged and she also managed to bring out the color I want. The rest of the staff are very friendly and they offer snacks(they gave me a slice of cake baked by one of the staff) and coffee/tea while my hair is being processed. One more thing I like about this salon is that they are cheaper than other salon but the quality is a lot better than the expensive ones. They will not pressure you to buy their products and they will tell you how to take care of your hair. I will be back to do my Magic Straight RETOUCH. Yes, they do a retouch, unlike other salons who insist doing hair straightening on the whole hair all the time. Aside from retouch is cheaper than having the whole hair straightened, it also saves your hair for being too much processed, and magic straight is permanent you don’t need to do it over again.

Beautiful haircut no matter who does it. If you are getting color or highlights, ask for Michelle. She is off on Mondays.

Awesome place to get a haircut for a fairly reasonable price. Place is state of the art with mini tv’s for viewing while you get your haircut. Hospitality is one of a kind as well — you’re greeted the moment you walk in and offered something to drink. Gina, who just cut my hair was wonderful and kind. I especially loved how gentle and delicate she was when washing my hair. Come and check it out and I’m sure that you won’t regret it.

I got the most jacked up haircut here back in October(yea a little late on the review). When the woman who cut my hair was finished, I pointed out a few areas that I thought needed help and upon seeing her«fix», I decided it would be better to walk away while I still had some hair. Epic fail. I have no idea how others got 5 star service here. *tear*

This salon is centrally located, reasonably priced and they wash your hair before and after the cut. My Korean’s pretty decent so I always have the ladies chatting me up, and I’ve never seen other ethnic groups in here, so I can’t really speak for their English comprehension levels… but they have a mini TV(usually playing Korean programming) at each station and they play some awesome 90’s K-pop on the radio. The Turbo songs in particular totally had me bopping my head to the beat until the ajumma said, «I know you like this joint, but I’m going to bluck up your hair if you don’t calm down». Well, at least that’s how I remember it with a little bit of artistic license in the transliteration. Sufficiently chastised, I obeyed and got a very respectable haircut. I used to go to Camille’s in Culver City, but the more I think about it, I feel like this is probably a better value proposition with the added scissor-play, the pre/post hair rinse and the $ 15 price tag. Plus, if I’ve learned one thing from the Jews and their invariable success it’s that you should always try to recycle your money within your community. No racism intended, just lee-spect… although if you get offended, see if I give a fuck.

I hate paying for hair cuts and usually don’t mind doing it myself. One day I ended up walking around my neighborhood and saw this salon in a plaza. Spur of the moment type of thing. I ended up getting half of my head shaved, which did need some explaining but the stylist was very nice and so was the receptionist who also sometimes helps out with blow-drying your hair. I went back a few months later to get a trim and they remembered me! Always a fun thing. A FEW more months later and I end up back at Scissor Sketch after I cut my hair myself for a touch up. I decided on getting a Brazilian blowout after having my hair deemed«too damaged» for the Magic Straight. Thank god. I don’t know the exact ingredients that went into my hair but considering that it was only about 90 minutes and did not choke the air I breathed, I assume it was formaldehyde free. I had a different stylist this time but she was absolutely attentive and very sweet. A pleasant experience all three times, in the span of about a year or so.

I’m always scared to try new haircut places, but I came here on a whim a couple of months ago for a haircut. I told the lady what I want(3 inches off with layers with razoring) and I got exactly what I asked for. It was actually better than what I was expecting! :) It’s usually rare for hair stylists to cut my hair in a way that shows/creates volume(thanks to the asain straight hair) but she did it! The great thing about the haircut was it grew out nicely. Thank you and I will be back soon! I just wish I took down the stylist’s name.

This is the second time I went to Scissor Sketch for Japanese hair straightening. I decided to wait until I washed my hair and did it myself before writing this review. They did a fantastic job! This time the owners did the job and I was much more satisfied than the first time. They took much longer to do the process. In fact, it took so much longer, I had to leave after they finished the straightening to pick up my daughter because I thought, based on the previous time, I would be on time to get her. This was not the case! They did such an intense treatment, that I realized I was going to be late. They let me leave and come back with child in tow to complete my haircut. They are very friendly and have great prices, too!

I thoroughly loved my experience at this salon! The atmosphere was friendly and every single member of the staff was helpful in deciding on my new hairdo! We came up with a plan from a picture and the haircut/style exceeded my expectations! I will use this salon again in a heartbeat!

I’ve been to this salon many times, and love this place. I have been recommending this place for years and really do offer the best service for decent prices. It’s unisex, and they take kids too. They even still do perms! I haven’t had one since the 80’s, but maybe they’re for you. Anyways, I just went recently and saw that they have individual TV monitors you can watch while your getting ur haircut or whatever. Plus free coffee. I love free.

Let me preface this by saying that this was the 2nd time I’ve paid for a haircut in over 15 years. I’m a stingy, self-reliant bastard, so hair clippers are my best friend. I decided to stop here on a whim, and I am glad I did. At first I figured it may be a boutique hair salon for the ladies, but the gentleman who ushered me in reassured me that they do men’s cuts as well. Amazing value, for $ 20 I got a mad decent haircut, shampoo + conditioner. The stylist asked me a few questions on how she should proceed, and then she started to cut and clip away with confidence. I was out the door in about 12 – 15 minutes feeling so fresh and so clean.
