Some people wander through their lives never questioning why we do the things we do or why our brains function and react in the way that they do. Well, I’m not one of those people. I have ALWAYS been interested in Neuropsychiatric and neuropsychology(I suggest for everyone to read the book: «This is Your Brain on Music» by Daniel Levitin). Luckily for the type of people such as myself, The Consortium for Neuropsychiatric Phenomics(Semel Institute) at UCLA is just as interested. Much more, in fact. AND they conduct research studies which allow you to be a test subject… and for cash! Now, I can’t release much information on my participation due to privacy measures, but I will say that the staff is passionate about their field and welcome you into their world. Kind and professional, you barely feel like a test subject and more like a friend. Not to mention, you learn about your own brain and feel good for helping a positive cause such as neural research. And hey, it pays really well! So if you ever need cash or are truly interested, try to become a test subject. Although it’s not for everyone… it involves blood tests and daily urine drug tests. Not a spec of any drug, over the counter or illegal can be found in your urine. Sometimes it pays to be drug free!(at least for the duration of the study).
