My coworkers have been going on about this place for a while and I finally tried it today. I have to say, it was disappointing. This is basically Asian style chipotle set up exactly like what you’d see in a chipotle. You go down the line and pick what you want in your bowl. I ordered brown rice and salad base with steak. I got all the side choices and topped with chili peppers and garlic and green curry sauce. I wish I could say I loved it but it just didn’t taste flavorful. It was definitely spicy enough. I love green curry and all the ingredients that went into it so I should’ve loved it but I just didn’t. The whole time I felt like it could’ve tasted better. I can’t think of any other way to put it. I’m definitely willing to give this place another try and revise this review but for my first visit, 3 stars. Portion size was definitely good though.

I’ve been here once because I had a coupon for a free meal. The food wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t go back and I’m glad I didn’t pay for it. Coming from a Southeast Asian background, I just can’t get behind the flavors in the food here. Everything is too bland and the mix of flavors is really weird. I will say that the workers are friendly and the service is really fast.

Bowls on bowls on bowls. You better believe I love my daily fix of bowls. I have eaten at Shophouse on several occasions, and each time has been free due to their occasional promotions(so be on the lookout for those). This location in particular is nice since it’s practically in the middle of Westwood. Inside, it’s fairly similar to other assembly-line style restaurant chains such as Pieology and Chipotle. Fun fact: Did you know that Chipotle owns Shophouse??? Wow sick bro!!! Anyways yeah, the inside is cool especially since there is a wall of sriracha bottles! Tip: pose against them bottles for the insta. As for the food, I usually get the shophouse bowl. Those meatballs have not let me down. I love balls! I’ve recently had the chance to try the grilled steak bowl. That was pretty gewd too. I typically add all the veggies and extra stuff. Careful on the spices and chilies though because those really are freakin spicy. I cried one time, but that’s because I’m little wimp when it come to spicy stuff. However, if you’re into spicy food, definitely try the heat that Shophouse has to offer. As for the service, the employees usually seem happy to help to you so 5 stars to them! Overall, the bowls here are good and service is great. 3.5÷5 stars if I could but bumping it up to 4 stars since I’ve never paid here LOL

Quick, easy, consistent and cheap. What else could you ask from a fast food place? The food is always tasty and comes in large quantities. Imagine a southeast Asian Chipotle, if you will. If you’re a fan of spicy food, I would highly recommend the spicy red curry!

Shophouse is a perfect take on Asian fast cuisine. Picture chipotle, but Thai and Vietnamese infused food. Definitely don’t recommend for those who can’t handle spicy food. If you are one of those people and find yourself here order: Half rice half noodle bowl with beef, peanut sauce, and extra pickles veggies. That should satisfy your hunger and meet the minimum spicy requirements. It’s also my favorite item to order.

I really enjoy coming here. There’s never a crazy line whenever I come here. I get in and out really quick. For Food/Drinks: I ALWAYS get brown rice, meatballs, corn, herb salad, peanut sauce with crispy garlic. The first time I came here I didn’t like what I got. I got brown rice, chicken, veggies, pickled veggies, peanut sauce and crispy garlic.(i never ordered that again) What really makes the meal is the meat you choose. I love the meatballs here. I find that the other meats are too charred. I have yet to try the tofu. Sometimes the food runs out and they take awhile to replenish it. So hope that you don’t go there right when they run out of something you like. It’s happened to me a couple of times with the brown rice. and I had to choose jasmine rice, which is fine, just not preferable. For Customer Service: The people are not overly friendly, nor rude or mean. They are pretty neutral which is fine with me. The workers I have encountered are sympathetic when an ingredient runs out and I’m not able to get what I came here for, but other than that I’m out within minutes. Overall– 8⁄10 Customer Service– 8⁄10 Quality of Food/Drinks– 8⁄10 Price–($ 8+)

Not bad for fast food southeast Asian food. You pick a base — white rice, brown rice, noodles, or salad. Protein– chicken stay, beef, meatballs, tofu Veggies — roasted corn, seasonal veggies(which was brocolli), spicy green beans Additional — pickled veggies(didn’t look good), papaya salad Dressing — red curry, green curry, peanut sauce, tamarind sauce Toppings — crushed peanuts, herbs, Thai chili Got mine with a salad base– it looked like Napa cabbage and some spinach with long a$$ stems. The chicken stay was actually pretty good and not dried out. Then did roasted corn, green beans, and papaya salad. Then topped with tamarind sauce with crushed peanuts. I felt I had a little too much sauce? I would get it on the side… They serve beer also.

Although I prefer the Hollywood location, this one pretty much hits the spot too. I am a fan of getting delicious and fresh food, fast. Since this is Chipotle’s South East Asian concept, it’s no surprise that they have their assembly line delivery method down to a science. My bowl base was a salad, which was combination of cabbage and kale. I find the kale unnecessary as the cabbage completely overpowers it but i guess it does have nutritional value. For my meat, I decided to go with half chicken/half pork and chicken meatballs. although the chicken is good, the meatballs are exceptional, next time I’ll just go with the latter. My vegetable choice was their seasonal choice, which is broccoli. they should offer this year round if possible. I decided to go with the green curry sauce. It was very tasty. I have had the red curry sauce before, which is tasty as well, but upsets my stomach a tad. Lastly I topped it with pickled vegetables and thai chilies. I wanted a little more of a kick, so i added some Siracha on my own. I am definitely a fan of this spot. I just wish they would open a location in a part of LA that I didn’t hate going to.

My first time here. I ordered the Spicy noodle w/chicken satay, vegetables and curry sauce. It was pretty good. String beans were seasoned well and very tasty. It was big potion, I finished everything and I usually don’t finish all of my food. It was decent price under $ 10 I will be going back soon… It does get really busy during lunch time so prepare for the long line. But their pretty fast and there’s plenty of seats.

I really wanted to love this place but after trying the ShopHouse bowl twice, I don’t think I do. Despite the bowl containing elements that I love individually, there’s just something that I don’t enjoy about it. I didn’t even finish the second one I got. There are some kind of chewy, hard things in some ingredient that I dislike and the overall effect is just too many things going on. Gave it three stars because I think the other choices have potential, so this review may be edited in the future. My friend gave me a gift certificate to use at this place and/or Chipotle so I may use it to try the satay bowl or noodle base instead of rice next time.

TLDR: Best Base: noodles(or brown rice if you’re health conscious) Best Protein: meatball; satay chicken comes a close second Best Veggie: spicy green beans Best Sauce: green curry, or tamarind sauce if you don’t like any spice Toppings: pickled veggies, crushed garlic — — — — — — — — — — — — — - So Shophouse had this daily riddle deal and if you guessed it correctly you get a free bowl coupon(or if you guessed incorrectly three times, they’ll give you a sympathy bowl… aka me almost the entire week). I milked the hell out of that deal though! I’ve pretty much been here 4 times, tried out every single ingredient, and didn’t pay a cent. YAYCOLLEGESTUDENTBUDGET. Meatball is definitely the best protein here. I think that’s what most people come to Shophouse for. Steak laab was overcooked every single time I’ve been here. So while the taste was there, it was so tough that it was unenjoyable. I tried the steak laab again a different day… and something in it gave it a crunchy, sand-like taste. Yeah ok never again. Chicken satay, however, was really good! I thought they would botch the satay flavor but they didn’t! Chicken wasn’t dry either. Pickled veggies and papaya salad aren’t bad per se, but as someone who grew up in an Asian household and eaten Asian food my entire life, I can say that these aren’t close to the authentic taste. There’s not enough of the tangy kick to it and came out quite bland. Spicy green beans was delicious! Not spicy at all, and the slightly burnt parts from the grill gave it the perfect charred taste that I love! Sauce wise, hands down the best is the green curry sauce. Light hint of spice but not overpowering. Tamarind sauce would be the next favorite. If you like salad vinaigrette, you’ll like this! It’s not spicy and has a tangy taste to it. Peanut sauce however was HORRIBLE. Nowhere close to authentic. In fact I don’t even know what I tasted because there’s no hint of peanut butter or hoison sauce in it. Overall, you should go somewhere else for authentic Asian cuisine. But I can see why they downplayed the flavors, especially in a build-your-own meal type of establishment. Otherwise, I don’t see myself ever coming back here again. Unless it was free.

I have been wanting to try this place ever since I heard it opened a while back especially since they are created by chipotle! I chose to build my own bowl. I got chilled rice noodles, satay chicken, green beans, pickled vegetables and herb salad with peanut sauce. I had a pretty hard time deciding between sauces but since I’m not a huge fan of curry the peanut sauce was the way to go. My bowl was delicious and light. The peanut sauce was way better than I thought it’d be. I wish there was more of a selection of meat. They should also allow more than one choice of vegetable.

I’ve been here a few times last year because I got a coupon in a mail. I came back today because I got another coupon for a free bowl. Why not? it’s free:) Park in the public parking structure cross the street if you can’t find a parking on the street. 2 hours free, no validation needed. Shophouse is an Asian version of Chipotle(ran by the same company), I like the modern design/atmosphere of this joint and the quick service. Food is definitely not an authentic southeast Asian food, more like westernized or fusion style, I would say. Food was cool, not great. I picked meatballs, squash and red curry on jasmine rice, and added all 3 garnishes(green papaya slaw, pickled veggies and cilantro) and added red chili sauce. Meatball was delish. Grilled chicken was bland. Bowl w/meatballs:$ 6.85, w/grilled chicken:$ 6.60. If you can’t take spicy foods, don’t get red curry! Get green or other sauce instead cuz red curry is pretty spicy. Overall 3 – 3.5 stars for the food. If I’m in the mood for some Asian bowl in the area, I prefer to go to Bibigo for their tasty bibimbap down the street.

I am a chipotle lover. We don’t have Shop House in GA so this made my list for things to do in LA. I enjoyed my meal but there was no wow factor for me. I hope they improve on this idea and bring it to GA. I’ll give it a second shot for sure!

I was surprisingly impressed with this place. Went in with medium expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I first heard of this place in a documentary I watched about chipotle. They are owned by chipotle, which is why it’s the same process and locally sourced food. PARKING: look for metered street parking. ATMOSPHERE: it’s s little darker than most chipotles but still had the wooden chairs and tables with metal finishings. The inside is pretty small with a few tables outside but I could imagine it getting crowded during peak hours. We came at 7:30 on a Saturday and found plenty of spaces. FOOD: it’s southeast Asian food chipotle style where you can mix and match. Kind of similar to fresh griller or kogi Korean. STEP1: choose your base. Either white jasmine rice, brown rice, salad or vermicelli. You can do half and half so I did half vermicelli half salad like Vietnamese bun. STEP2: choose your meat. They have chicken, meatballs, tofu and laab. The laab is a ground steak meat that had similar spices like lamb does. I really enjoyed it and this gave my bowl a lot of flavor. STEP3: veggies. Most of them are spicy so I got the charred corn which was good but even that was spicy. The others were pretty tasty according to my boyfriend. STEP4: toppings. I got the pickled veggies which were good and not too vinegary. STEP5: sauces. Again I couldn’t get a lot of them because they are spicy so I got the tamarind vinaigrette on the side but it wasn’t very good. Too tangy. It actually tasted find without any sauces. STEP6: final touches. Get the crispy garlic. Mmm. Overall this place was really good and for the price you pay you get a good amount. People complain it’s not authentic but cmon its not like people go to chipotle to get real Mexican food so don’t come here expecting super authentic southeast Asian food.

The first time I tried I didn’t like it as much but the times after that I began to like it! BEWARE! Some things you order can be a lot spicier than expected! How it works! First step: Choose between Jasmine Rice, Brown Rice, Chilled Rice Noodles, or salad. Tip: You can order a half and half! I usually get a bowl with half chilled rice noodles and half brown rice! Meat Options: Chicken, Grilled Steak Laab, Pork & Chicken Meatballs, or Organic Tofu(can be a little spicy) Vegetable Options: Kale, Charred Corn, Eggplant & Thai Basil or Green Beans. Sauces: Tamarind Vinaigrette, Green Curry, Spicy Red Curry, or Peanut Sauce. Garnish Options: Green Papaya Slaw, Pickled Vegetables, or Herb Salad. Toppings: Toasted Rice, Crispy Garlic, Crushed Peanuts, or Thai Chilies. It seems that even if somethings have one flame it can turn your whole meal spicy! I learned my lesson and just add things to my bowl that are extremely mild so I can enjoy it! My usual bowl consists of half noodles and half brown rice, I usually get the chicken, I also skip the vegetables because they’re too spicy to me, with the peanut sauce, pickled vegetables, topped with nuts. Ambiance: Love the modern and chic feel of this place! They have sriracha bottles along the wall in this place that you can actually get off the wall to use. There is seating inside and outside. Parking: There is metered parking on the street and around westwood. Overall: After trying several locations, I finally began to like this place and their food.

Street-style asian food is often a bunch of ingredients all thrown together in a really hot wok, stir-fried and aromatic as hell as everything sizzles together in whatever spices and sauces have been added, both before and during cooking. ShopHouse, instead, cooks everything by itself beforehand, and you end up with cold noodles or medium-warm bits, and sauces added after cooking that dominate the flavors. it’s… edible, but it’s not traditional Asian food, be it nice and fancy or more street food. Instead it’s like some strange American semi-fast-food take on a burrito bowl but with vaguely Asian-themed ingredients. The difference is, a burrito bowl might work, and this doesn’t.

ShopHouse seems great for the first time. Around 4 choices to choose from each for your carbs, meats, side, and then sauce. It’s like the first time you go to Chipotle. The possibilities seem endless. But after having eaten there multiple times, it just starts tasting the same. The first time I had went was with the free bowl coupon they were giving out to UCLA students. I got a bowl of rice, meatballs, corn, and green curry sauce(which they claimed was around medium spicy if I remember correctly). I liked the Asian taste: kind of made me feel like I was at Fusion(an Asian fusion make-your-own-bowl type place as well). But I definitely felt the difference in the quality of their food. The food didn’t seem that fresh and it left a very heavy feel in my stomach afterwards. Also, their sauces are extremely spicy so that was slightly overpowering. In the end, I appreciated the free meal and felt like I would come again to try a better combination. The second time, I paid for a bowl of noodles, chicken, greens, and the peanut sauce(hoping that it would be less overpowering of a sauce this time). I admit that it was definitely a lighter experience. But in the end, I just felt like it wasn’t that satisfying for one bowl. I just don’t think that the individual meats and vegetables are anything special, and throwing them all together in a bowl makes me feel like I’m overpaying for something I could easily make at home. Perhaps I’m just not into this type of Asian fast food.

What took so long for this concept to reach LA? It’s Asian Chipotle. What’s there not to love? It’s actually even simpler to order than Chipotle and it tastes a little healthier too. Let me walk you through this: 1. Order your carb — white rice, brown rice, noodles 2. Order your meat — chicken satay, beef, and a few others 3. Order your veggie — corn, beans, and a few others 4. Order your sauce — curries of various levels of spiciness 5. Order your seasoning — garlic, crushed nuts, and a few others 6. Order your drink 7. Pay It’s dangerous because things are displayed nicely and look delicious. You’ll probably end up getting extra stuff in your bowl, which you can by paying a little more. The food is fresh, but it’s not the largest portions or the cheapest thing in the world. However, regardless of what you get, you’ll probably really like it. I got the beef noodle with beans and corn, topped with garlic, soaked in medium spiciness curry. Hit the spot. You can also order pre-arranged combos for those too lazy to make their own life decisions. No judgement, peeps. This is optimally located on Broxton next to the UCLA campus. It’s a modern, clean, airy vibe. It’s fast, reliable, and delicious.
