A five-star night out when Soulside Productions is involved! Both of their monthly events, Soulside and Trojan Lounge, bring the best of vintage soul and reggae music to Los Angeles. Big wooden dance floor, complimentary water(always a plus!), and groovy scene. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes because the DJs play top tunes from start to finish.

I’ve been to a lot of different soul nights throughout the city and this is truly one of the best. Top flight selectors from all over the world who know their stuff. Crowds can vary from those in the know of northern soul and good reggae to the uninitiated, any case, everyone is there to dance and have a good night out. I’ve been to many nights where fashion is the focus and dancing takes a back seat; not the case here, we get the best of both worlds — smart dressed folks who love to get down. See you out on the floor.

Ain’t no party like a SOULSIDE party! Such a fresh relief from the same olé booty club dance scene. Always an awesome time with great folks who have great taste in music. Northern SOUL, a lil ROCKSTEADY with a helping of SKA make every SOULSIDE dance party a great time :) Hey, I suddenly feel like dancing.

Tired of the same old Top Forty clubs? Well I am not, because I don’t make the mistake of attending them. I go to Soulside. A few simple reasons: the music is always excellent and you can dance to it. Expect to hear lots of soul, motown, soul, freakbeat, soul, a dash of old school reggae, soul and other predominately sixties gems any given dj might throw in the mix. If you choose to attend(and I suggest you do) it is imperative that you dress sharp, as others around you will be looking quite snazzy. It is the kind of club where you come to show off your outfit and commend others on their get-ups. Overall it is a very hip and unique. The only drawback is the location; not in the meanest part of town but a bit obscure. Just go!

I have been going to Soulside for years and it always gets me dancing. The local DJs know their stuff, and it’s also a treat when there are guest DJs from out of town, spinning their rare soul tunes. The music is so good, I can’t help myself getting so into it that I’m doing drops and kicks. If you’re looking for rare soul and traditional reggae, Soulside is the place to go. Fais Do-Do has a great, smooth dance floor, and the other regular dancers are incredible to watch; you’ll certainly learn something from them.

When you want to get out of the trendy LA scene and go where you can hear real music this is it. They play this thing called a record. If you don’t know what this is you can google it. So much fun. Excellent old ska, rocksteady, R&B and reggae. The dj’s each have their own taste and style come through in what they are playing. The crowd is great, welcoming and inviting.

I had the privilege of being invited to spin twice at this premier night of heavy and rare ska, rocksteady and early reggae vinyl(THE night for it in LA) and it was the only time that I felt like a rock star on stage, sweating(in part because I lost one of the 45 adapters!) with an appreciative, packed audience of hardcore enthusiasts who know their shit. I can remember people shouting as I put on one record. It’s intense! I’ve never experienced anything like it. Back to back scorchers and friendly, appreciative people. Marv and his crew know how to boss it up in fine style.

A monthly club in LA that has an excellent mix of vintage Jamaican music: reggae, ska, rocksteady, then they mix it up with Northern soul — all played on vinyl records! The scene crowd dresses up classy and dapper. The guest DJs are serious collectors, so you may not recognize some of the songs, but it’s usually upbeat and happy music. It’s fun to watch people dance — there is no grinding and baby-making on the dance floor here. Everyone is respectful of each other and their space bubble. I follow them on facebook, because the location might change. Typical cover of $ 10. Friendly bouncers. The first time I went to the Soulside club night in 2008, I met the love of my life. Thanks, Soulside LOL.

I love going to Soulside… The peeps are cool, and the music is great… Everyone is dressed in 1960’s MOD… its a slice of life right out of 1963. Mo Betta if you ride your vintage Italian Scoot to the venue. See you y’all next month!
