This location is closed. Drove by today. Place is empty. Owner(?) of strip mall said the Sun Valley location is still open.

You know when you haven’t had really good food in awhile and you start to wonder to yourself if it was *really* that good? Super Tortas was! I first visited this place back in 2002ish when my mentor introduced me to the wonder that is a machaca torta. I didn’t even know what a torta was at the time(after all, I’m only half Mexican). Wow. I remember it being so big that I couldn’t finish it and bringing it home to hubby, who was equally impressed. I may have gone a few more times, but since have not had the opportunity until today, when after much reminiscing my co-worker and Unilocal buddy offered me a ride to the much-loved hole-in-the-wall. Well, the quality is still as good as it ever was, and the place seems much nicer than I remember in the way that I seem to recall you having to order at this really cramped counter space; it was a grab-and-go type of deal. Now they take your order at the table and everything. Chez Super Torta. But still the same yummy machaca goodness. Moment of silence. When food is this good, you just have to stop and be respectful.

They should change the name to Super Good Tortas. One of my customers recommended it to me today and I am grateful. I had the Original Torta and loved it…

Machaca Torta is the best! Although, the others are great too! Eat there at least twice a month and worth the drive from Downtown L.A. The House Sauce in the squirt bottle, makes it complete! Always look forward to eating there on Payday Fridays. Not a fancy place but food is delicious!

Yummy in my tummy! I was introduced to this place by a co-worker who had always raved about it, and I can see why. The tortas are delish. I ordered the ham & cheese torta and he had the rib eye torta and 2 taquitos. My h&c was so good, a good quality ham not cheap store sliced lunch meat. I was offered a bite of his rib eye torta and it was soooo good. The meat was not chewy and dry, it was very tender moist and well flavored. The salsa had a great flavor and wasn’t overly spicy, and complimented the tortas perfectly. What I really liked about this place is that I left feeling full and satisfied, but not stuffed and bloated :) CASHONLY as the others have said and be careful our waitress informed us to check the bill as the cashier on duty likes to overcharge. Sure enough she had charged us for two drinks, when we only got one.

Super Tortas has great authentic Mexican food. I especially like their Torta de lomo(rib eye sandwich) and taquitos. It may be difficult to get parking during lunchtime since their lot is small, but their food is AWESOME !!! You gotta stop by.

This place is just hands down awesome. If you are the type of person who is down for great(REALMEXICAN) food, and friendly service this is your spot. It has great prices for the portions that are given to you. Just like what others said… this place is CASHONLY, and it is located in, not the best area, but the food is so delicious. I ordered the Pollo torta. The veggies were fresh, their spicy salsa was amazing, and the chicken was fresh and generous. Grilled to perfection. I didn’t feel«heavy» afterwards, so you know they use good quality ingredients. Great place. Had a great time. Highly recommend! –Gab

Wow… I must say this place is pretty cool… I work nearby and I walk to the place… they are especially cool about making my order to my specifications… I always ask for the number 9 and instead of tortillas, I ask for the Torta Bread toasted… No butter Period on everything… they comply and give me a very hefty portion of a meal… really good for really good price… awesome lunch place… or for a torta fix. I will warn you guys though… CASHONLY!!!

Ever since I was walking, I’ve been eating at this place. My mom owned a hair salon right next door to this place. I love the ingredients they use in the tortas and the variety of meat/combos they have. I might be biased because I was conditioned to like these tortas because I started eating them at so young of an age. I’d still say try it. It might be LA’s hidden gem. Well, not so hidden anymore. To add onto their credibility they’ve been in business since 1920 and opened shop in LA around 1985.

Super TURBO! At least once a every few weeks, my coworkers and I head out to this cash only dive that serves good tortas faster than you can blink. Since we go often, the owners know exactly what our group gets: the Ribeye torta with an horchata, a chicken torta and a coke, and a tuna torta with a sprite. I do not remember when the last time we actually ordered from the actual menu. Not going to lie, these tortas rock my socks, especially the rib-eye. It’s beefy, juicy, and hearty. Drizzle some of that house salsa and you are in torta heaven. Enjoy it with a cold horchata and you got yourself a complete meal for 10 bucks. Yes, this is one of the many hole in the wall places in Los Angeles, and the decorum is not the nicest, but I am so adamant about getting my grub on here that all that doesn’t matter. They serve fast and furious, and with that, who could complain? So if you are craving something good and something fulfilling, find some parking and hit up Super Tortas!

You could probably put anything inside one of their toasted, buttered bollilos and it would taste like happy. I opt for tuna just because I’m not that big on meat. They add black olives and onions into the mix, with just enough mayo to bring it together. Two seconds after the words fall off of my tongue I’m walking out of there with my lunch. Which I think is easily big enough for two normal people. One star missing for lack of more veggie options, and surprisingly spiceless jalapeños. Super duper tortas. (cash only)

So Friday Herbert posted a thread about National Sandwich day being Nov 3, as I was thinking never heard of that one but what a great idea it got me in the mood for a sandwich. I was heading back from downtown and remembered this place«Super Tortas» located in such a wonderful neighborhood just north of MacArthur Park… So I chose the Torta de Milanesa, for those of you that don’t know what Milanesa is… it’s a thin steak that is *BREADED* they use rib eye, the Torta was $ 6.70 priced a little high not what I would expect from a small place and in this neighborhood! So I get my Torta and roll to the streets so I can get that vibe while I’m eating just makes the food taste better!, first thing I notice is it’s a pretty good size Torta, so then I take a few bites and I’m thinking«PANCHO» something’s just not right here! I’m not getting any crunch? WHERE’S the breading? seems to be VERY thin on one side only! It was OK like 3-Star OK I’ve had MUCH better Tortas at many other places and MOST are less expensive than here!, so for that I give you only 2.5 — Stars and probably won’t be back

I give it more like 3 ½ stars… pretty good. I work right by this place and eat there maybe once a week. There rib eye torta is really solid, Meat is tender, veggies are fresh and the guacamole is delicious. I have tried there rolled tacos and there machaca burrito and they were just ok… salsa is not very good. But I guess this place is called super TORTAS for a reason. Now when I go thats all i get. Update: super tortas hollywood is closed now, there is one on alvarado but it kind of sucks.

Best Tortas EEEEVEEEEER!!! Rib eye torta is so bomb my stomach is growling as I write this review. Parking does suck, who cares though. Just park at the Ross across the street or the meters on Alvarado

Torta #15 Blah. I have zero enthusiasm to write this review. I was stoked to come here because the online menu looks pretty good. The prices were a tad over par for the location and parking. I ordered a puerco torta to share with my friend and we sat at little table to place our order. Inside doesn’t look like much, smelled pretty good though. The torta came pretty quick but i was instantly sad. The bread wasn’t toasted at all. Very soft and nice but it made me think I was eating a deli sandwich on a soft roll. I wanted crisp fresh mexican bread, oh well. The meat was good though, had nice flavor but a handful of pieces were too big and chewy. Nothing too good, nothing too bad. Just an over priced sandwich in the ghetto.

The parking sucks, but the tortas rock. Parking-wise, there is a tiny«lot»(as in about six or so tiny spaces that are shared with the other stores in the mini strip mall-ish area. I have always found a space when I’ve gone at lunch time, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Tortas-wise, everything is good. I’ve tried the pollo(shredded chicken), puerco(basically carnitas), and milanesa(breaded beef thing). There are vegetarian options, but seriously who eats vegetarian when they’re getting Mexican? You can get a combination thing with beans and rice, which are sort of eh. The rice is mediocre, the beans are okay, but not out-of-this-world tasty. So basically don’t bother with the combination. The torta is delicous and enough to fill you.

Super Tortas’ motto should be «Super Fast!» The cartoon masked torta mascot is very Zorro! Before we even sat down our ribeye tortas were ready for us to devour. I always like my steak on the rare side so the ribeye was cooked a little too long for my taste. The sandwich itself is the size of a small football so it was a small challenge to eat but well worth the trip to this Westlake area spot. I noticed two law enforcement staff on their lunch break, office folks, and a mom who took the bus with her kid to pick up a take-out order. The parking lot is small and it’s cash only.

Super Tortas is simply the bomb-diggity. I teach in the neighborhood and this little shop is our mecca. We only have a 45 minute lunch break, so we call our order in at recess and bolt down Alvarado to pick up the most moist, delish, meaty sandwiches you can imagine. The bread is beyond pillowy and oh so savory! When I can I visit on a weekend so I can actually eat my torta at a non-super-human pace. I visited again yesterday and it’s just a consistently yummy meal. Anytime you’re in the area try this place out!
