Right down the street, it’s my late night taco place. Basic tacos, nothing amazing but they stay open till 1am

I stopped by last week for my usual taco fix and was shocked to find out they are now out of business. Not a trace of TDJ anywhere. I ran up and down Venice Blvd in tears looking for answers. Its now been a week later and i have still not accepted the truth. I have even called cell & business phones and no answers. If you have any information PLEASE contact the local authorities.

Hmm… I debated between 3 or 4 stars but it’s a solid 3 because there is one thing I love here(canitas sope), but there are several things I don’t like(chicken is either too salty or lacks flavor depending on the day you go, you can’t add the amount or type of salsa that you like to your dish, the carne asada meat isn’t the best quality — I got a quesadilla once and looking at it made me want to throw up). I haven’t had the burritos or tortas yet but I think I’m sticking with the carnitas sope. It is really delic — everything except the salsa is awesome. I think they need to offer a salsa bar for me to bump this up to a 4. Service is good and they do have a few tables if you want to hang out. You know what? The fact they’re open late(1am), they take cards, and they have coke in bottles and decent horchata bumps this to 3.5 and maybe a 4 with some more visits.

A little hard to spot since it’s a pretty small store surrounded by businesses and not really restaurants. The person who took my order was extremely nice, absolutely great customer service. I was looking forward to the food blowing me away since the service was so good, but it was just ok. Everything else was so great, though, so I feel like I should emphasize that. I got my food to go and the packaging was great. They packed enough of the sides and enough hot sauce. I was greeted when I came in. They chatted with me a lot. The quality of the food and ingredients was great. Maybe I just wish the carne asada wasn’t chopped like it was? I don’t know, I can’t exactly put my finger on it but I’ve had better tacos. This isn’t to say that I wouldn’t ever visit again. I most probably will.

This place is all good. I remember the first time I had their tacos and quesadillas — at the end of a long day of moving. My sister brought it back and it hit the spot. It’s fast, relatively cheap, delish and open late!

I want to like this place more than I do, I really want to. But every time I go, there’s just something that’s slightly off… like a large unchewable piece of asada in my burrito. Don’t get me wrong, the price is right, it’s super quick, and the food is pretty decent. But it’s nothing special, and of the three times I’ve gone there, they botched my order once(asked for pura carne, but got everything on my burrito) and another time I had way more gristle in my asada than I would have liked. That said, they make a pretty good sope, and if you’re driving down Venice and in a hurry, it’s a quick and easy pit stop.

Left Oakland Airport around 7, landed at LAX no later than 8:15 and I was at the Don Jorge counter ordering tacos by 8:30pm. They just don’t make Mexican food like this in the bay area. If I wrote a review after every Don Jorge meal I consumed the internet would of ran out of space years ago.

Decent Mexican food at cheap prices(1.25 per taco). The restaurant seems very clean, and the food comes out fast. They also have .5 liter Mexican Coke and Pepsi. If you go, I recommend ordering something to eat-in, because the tacos I got to-go today were kind of mushy when I finally ate them. Honestly, can’t argue with the price, speed, and proximity. Until I find a better Mexican place to go, this is where I’ll be on my lunch break when I feel like a taco.

Just when I thought Don Jorge’s couldn’t get any better — they surprised me! I hadn’t been in a while and to my delight, noticed they remodeled with new tables and chairs and a bigger menu! Que Magnifico! Aye Aye Aye! This place is a teeny little shack that used to be a taco truck at one point, I think. Now even though they are firmly planted on the corner of Venice and Cattaraugus, these cheap eats son un buen precio! At 1.25 a taco — my boyfriend and I can eat three tacos each, be deliciously satisfied, all for $ 7.50. The best cheap(yummy) eats around. They are open late too, which makes this place a great late night munchie tamer. The guys that work here are always friendly and super quick to make your order. The red sauce can be spicy so, hold it if you are sensitive. My fave taco pics are the carne asada and chicken tacos. The horchata is great to wash them down. Oh, and they will fall apart, so don’t be afraid to get a little messy. It’s well worth it though. However, I do have to warn you… after eating here, you will have killer taco breath… Aye que rico!

According to various sources, the average street taco has roughly 300 calories in it which means that the 8 tacos I just inhaled from Don Jorge’s adds up to a whopping 2400 calories… Additional research also indicates that one must perform roughly 2 to 3 hours of vigorous exercise to combat this calorie surge. So was it worth it? ___________ I __I I I I_/\_/I___I__I I__I I I___I I___I \ I I___I I I I *actual calories may vary

For $ 1.25 each, the tacos here are about as cheap as they get on the westside. Given that, I wasn’t expecting too much so I was decently surprised when we got home and opened our to-go tin foil packs full of tacos. Pretty big… Unfortunately, they mashed 4 tacos into each foil pack, and the structural integrity of said tacos was irreparably lost. Meat, onions, cilantro… everything was falling out of the tortillas that had become torn on the ride over. Taste was also surprisingly good, if you don’t mind residual grease on your hands. My wife and I were hungry after a bar crawl and we weren’t going to make the trek into East Los at night, and so we stopped by Don Jorge’s with a desire for tacos. Given those wildly disparate elements coming together, I’d venture to say we might go back… otherwise, just pay $.25 more a taco and go to La Estrella in the barrio… when the sun’s out.

Don Jorge is a hidden gem! If you like cheap, tasty, meat-heavy, Mexican food, then this – is – your – place! I’ve eaten here 10 of the past 14 days. And, while I can’t possibly keep up that pace, I’ll be a regular customer for sure. My favorite is the carne asada torta w/o beans.

They are open till 1am 7 nights a week which is awesome! They have the usual soft taco choices, asada, chicken, carnitas, al pastor, and some of the stuff I won’t eat(buche-lingua and I’m not sure what else), plus burritos, sopes, quesdillas, and drinks. I ordered a carne asada sope, and one al pastor and one carnitas taco. however I missed out on the al pastor and doubled up on the carnitas. the guy said he’d make me a new an al pastor but I said it was fine. it’s the thought that counts right? the tacos were solid. nothing crazy outstanding but good. a little greasy but good. if I was in the area and wanted tacos I’d go again! and I’d for sure get an asada and try an al pastor. the sopes were maybe a little better then the tacos but I was also REALLY hungry cause it was like 3:30 and I hadn’t eaten. there’s no salsa bar but they will give you a cup of extra. the service is super friendly! It’s cash only and cheap!

Really greasy meat. So greasy I even was taken aback. I ordered two pastor/two asada tacos… of course. Each cost 1.25 and are the small type, with yellow corn tortillas. The pastor was suuuuper saucy, non spit. The asada had so much grease on it and on top of that, they dip the tortillas in oil before they heat em up. The salsa roja was ok… nothing special… if anything, it just added to the liquidity of my meal. They have no salsa bar, and they don’t take cards. But they are generous about their portions, if that’s your thing. I’d give this place a pass. I have pics of the greasiness so check em.
I’ve lived a few blocks away from this place and have never been untill tonight. I will forever be kicking myself for that! My best friend who stoped by to say hi to me said«Bitch get in the car I want some tacos!» So I called my daughter out the house and away we went. I was like wtf? you bring me here ughh *flipps hair* Well I shut my mouth once I tasted the tacos. OMG they were so good. I was plessantly surprised. They are generous with the meat and their tacos are only $ 1.25. Can’t beat that with a baseball bat! The only down side is that this place is cash only so bring a few bucks and leave with a full stomach! Thanks Karina!

Woah woah woah! What is going on here? I can’t sit by and remain silent with the bashing of one of the area’s best taquerias. I will keep it short, but let’s address some of the issues below. 1) They have rice. 2) While sparse on décor and seating, everything is very clean. 3) Thankfully, I have yet to have a taco rupture. Story time: I went to visit Don Jorge 3x last week. I have been impressed each and every time with their food. Chicken meat is white, pork is amazing, and the asada is buttery and of high quality. Remember, this is not a place to hang-out and drink margaritas but if you want a killer taco or 5, go… go now.

Wow was I disappointed in today’s torta. Completely flavorless — you’d think the cilantro would add something, but even that didn’t work! Their tacos are pretty good… soggy and messy, but nicely flavored and that’s what’s giving this review 2 stars. I think they’re better off as a truck. The restaurant is so empty [of customers, décor, and furniture]…I felt like it wasn’t a finished facility. No salsa bar, no bar stools for the counters against the walls. I don’t think I’ll come back here :(

Everyone knows that some of the best tacos in Los Angeles are found at the late night trucks that start appearing after the sun goes down. Well, now we can get them all day long! Tacos Don Jorge used to be one of those late night taco trucks and they’ve been serving food on wheels for over 20 years. Now they have set up a permanent location in a little store-front on Venice and Cattaraugus and the tacos are superb. You just pick your meat(chicken, pastor, carnitas, lengua, cabesa, buche or steak) and they’ll throw some cilantro, onion and delicious salsa on top and you are set! They’ll also make a burrito, quesadilla, torta or sope, if that’s what you are looking for– but, for $ 1.25 a pop, you really can’t go wrong with those tasty, authentic tacos! UPDATE: Still one of the better choices for tacos in Culver City, but lately my tortillas have been more soggy and falling apart. Gotta deduct a star for that…
