Down n out is always my go to bar. The music is always great and the environment is always on point when you’re ready to have fun! By far my favorite bar in dtla! Not to mention drinks are inexpensive comparing to most places in DTLA.

Really cool environment but I came here and requested a game and the bartender was VERY rude and passive. The bar was basically empty with not a single soul watching the game on the big screen so I asked if we could watch on there and he was very cold and said«it’s only for LA teams» and turned his back. Super unfriendly unfortunately. The bartender was also snotty to the waitress in front of the customers. And after the game finished on the big screen he changed it to a pre game broadcast instead of the game while we’re still here watching our game awkwardly

1÷30÷16 the security guy with a beard was acting like he came from the army he needs to be retrain in costumer service, treating the paying costumers with no respect, i had party of 20 they all felt threaten, i think security is forgetting the people going in are paying their checks, i was surprise at the end of the night 5 security guards jumped a female and ZIP tied her hands they mad it a point to have her arrested, their a law suite waiting to happen that is taking advantage of costumers all they had to do was escort her out of the bar, the main security aggressor had zip ties, hand cuffs, pepper spray, swat apparel, and a powerful flash light that he was putting in ever ones face the management/owners should look into all the reviews and see whats going on. this one security guy will be the fall of your club

I stopped in here one Saturday afternoon to kill some time before a night on the town, and it met all of my criteria: –the drinks were GOOD. Two White Russians gave me a buzz I could ride for hours and they were delicious so the bartender used high quality ingredients. –the music was good: Black Keys, Eagles of Death Metal, etc. –the bathroom was easy to find so I didn’t have to drunkenly ask the bartender for directions. I’m definitely coming back if I’m killing time in the Broadway area again(it’s also walking distance from MOCA, and you’ll want a stiff drink before heading there!)

This might be the worst bar ever because of the bouncers who don’t want people to have a good time. I was standing in the path of the bus boys and got escorted out because I was dancing there. Don’t go here if you want to have fun.

I actually loved this place when l first came to this place. The security didn’t seem so tight. My friend and I actually made conversation with this infamous security guard with the bullet proof vest and he wasn’t such an a-hole at that time. He did want all of us in a single file line, but actually asked all of us nicely and I understood, because it was Halloween night and it gets crowded. I had no problem with security or the bartenders that night or the following nights I came. But it seems that throughout time they just became ruder. My first bad encounter was with the overweight security that seems to be the one always asking for IDs, he took one look at my friend and told us, «the girls can come in but he can’t.» No explanation or anything. I was mad because honestly I was the one who had a couple drinks beforehand and he was my DD. So obviously, the drinks turned me into a lawyer and I demanded an explanation but he said«because he said so» and was so condescending about it all. I demanded to talk to another security guard because that guy was a lost cause and luckily this African American security guard was nicer and he apologized for the other guy but he said it was better if we just went home. Just goes to show not all security guards here are scum. The NEXT time we came, the guy with the bulletproof vest was our issue and honestly made that our last time coming to this bar. He was screaming at EVERYONE. My girl friend and I were waiting in line and one of our friends were there but had his own group in the line but just wanted to say hi. There was no possibility in cutting anyways because that guy had eyes like a hawk so we were just talking. But the security guard comes up to us and yells at him to leave. We didn’t want to get kicked out so he listened. We have him no back talk or anything but he continued being an a-hole. He told us we were lucky he wasn’t going to «have us kicked out.» And my friend and I just kept quiet because we didn’t want any trouble. And he goes back to the spot he was standing and we hear him talking to a group in front saying, «if you all had to stay in line why shouldn’t that fat a**.» The people around us were like this bar isn’t even worth being treated like that. And the people behind us asked if the bar was even that good that they had security guards yelling at everyone. The people walking pass the line were making fun of how the security guards were treating everyone and we decided to just leave. This was honestly our last time there. So my girl friend and I and my friend’s group decided to leave. Looking back at it, I should have said something and took the risk of getting kicked out. Definitely not worth it being treated like prisoners. I hope the owner gets their sh*t together and take care of these security guards. Telling all my friends and everyone here take your business somewhere else!

I give this place zero stars. I have never felt so unappreciated. If you wanna get yelled at by wanna be cops this is the place to go. The door guy that thinks he’s a ranger and is the most annoying door guy ever! I brought friends from Canada and they had a good time until it was time to go. They wouldn’t let us in the bathroom past 1:30 am and they wouldn’t let us take a pic on their mugshot back drop. FYI I couldn’t post my review unless I gave it at least one star.

This place sucks some serious balls they had the worst girl and band performing the shittiest karaōke I have ever experienced in my whole life. This place has done a complete 360 it used to be cool but now it is by far the worst bar and all of downtown Los Angeles. Do not waste your time going to this s*** hole because the only thing they have to offer is crappy music and a crappy environment. I’m so disappointed in the down and out. Am I to go to be called the s*** hole because that’s what you’re gonna get when you go there. Crappy music crappy beer crappy service crappy environment all in all crappy don’t waste your time especially for the music these girls suck giant balls. If I could give it half a star I would or maybe even a quarter of a star would be more appropriate what a s*** hole bar… I honestly can’t believe are still open

Two thumbs way down!!! The security guards who are paid to keep people safe decided to pepper spray the crowd a few weeks ago after the bar had closed! Granted the bar had yelled out«last call already» and security had kicked everyone out… Well shortly after the crowd was just hanging on the street in front of the bar. We were waiting to meet up with friends when out of nowhere security decided to pepper spray the whole crowd! A bunch of innocent folks were just standing there… It was horrible. I couldn’t stop coughing… My eyes and throat were brining. Fuck this place and their bitch ass security!!!

What everyone is saying about the door security is spot on. 10 consecutive reviews and tips don’t lie. My roommate and I(two women) came here after work and dinner tonight. I was talking military jargon with one of the door guys who was also a veteran. He went through the usual run down of interrogating questions disguised as small talk, same as usual with those types veterans. Fast forward, I moved past him to the next, much taller and overweight door man(because there had to be two for some reason), and he pointed to my roommate and said Sorry, I can’t let you ladies in because she’s drunk(referring to my roommate). I said what happened?! We were all standing there together while my door guy asked me intrusive questions so I was thoroughly confused. I gave him a puzzling look and my roommate was surprised too. She said to him, You asked me how many drinks I’ve had and I said two, are you serious?! He shrugged and said sorry. Before my friend could get into how ridiculous this all was i just suggested we leave. Its a bar, not Al Queda. Not worth our time and not worth yours either. I hope the fat guy wasn’t a veteran too, otherwise they’re BOTH making us all look really bad. But seriously… its a bar… and there are so many others that aren’t ridiculous. To the owner– your security staff is driving your business to the ground. Meh.

F this place and their security guards who swear they’re FBI agents. But in all seriousness this place blows, only go if you wish to get in a fight.

Came here for the SantaCon. Had a good time, and my friends decided to leave. So I walked them out and said goodbye, decided to go back inside. Unfortunately when trying to re-enter(wearing a santa suit) I was told I had to pay the cover charge again. I explained I was already inside. But the security guard with the bullet proof vest said if you leave, you have to pay again. So that’s my last time there.

I don’t understand why people like this bar so much? Well at least the people I know! I’ve been here twice already and didn’t like it ! Can’t even walk around with a drink on your hand cause it’s so crowded. You can’t even dance and the dj sucks! The security are always so rude! I’m Only giving it 2 stars cause the drinks were pretty good lol other than that this place sucks /:

Not a fan. The place gets too crowded, plus when you add the 50 security guards running around waiting for a fight to break out, it kinda kills the vibe. They really want to create the experience of being in jail. Guards making their rounds to keep order, by ordering people around. Sad. The bouncers need a reality check. Throwing their weight around like their job really means something. What do these people do when they’re not bouncing at clubs? No one in real life goes around in society talking to people with the attitudes the bouncers give. It seems like the club hired these people to avoid having them as customers. Drinks are a little more expensive than average and the pricing isn’t consistent. I ordered the same drink from two different bartenders. The first one charged me a dollar extra just for … I don’t know. The second bartender was honest.

I was here last night and I’m pretty certain I saw a prostitute there with her pimp. At first they appeared to be a couple sitting at the booth but throughout the night, the woman would walk around the bar to approach men who were standing alone or with one other guy. The drinks here are very diluted. One of their signature cocktails called Brooklyn something made with gin and oj tasted like the orange flavored emergen-c powder when you mix it with too much water. At first I was excited to get such a large cocktail for $ 12(the cup is huge), but then I realized its mostly ice. Guys will get patted down after the ID check. Music is ok.

It’s alright, I guess. Stepped in because I needed to pee(to be honest), but I pretended to be a patron(l thought it was the classy thing to do) and ordered a Stella($ 6). I dank my Stella, then bounced. As for the inside, it was very divey. I can’t really comment on the crowd, because it was daytime when I hit The Down And Out up… not many folks inside.

My friends and I came in on a Friday night. It was only around 10pm so there weren’t a lot of people. yet. It was my first time here and I was surprised at how huge this place was! There were 2 bars and the famous«mugshot» prop in the corner where you can take pictures lol There is a huge dance floor and the walls are decorated with celebrity mugshots(Nicole Richie whatupppp) There are also lots of booths and tables along the sides of the bar where you can just chill and get your drink on. There is a little patio where you can go smoke but you are not allowed to take your drinks out so make sure you have someone watching it if you step out! Around 11, more people started pouring in and soon enoughh, it was a full house! There were no more tables and booths to sit at so my friends and i actually left to try out different bars. Overall, my experience here was pretty cool! I liked the unique décor, the staff was very nice, the people were chill, and the drinks were fairly priced. I would definitely come back!

This place is HUGE!!! I came here one Wednesday evening for live band night and it was really fun, but because the place is so big, the place looked really empty. I came here again on a Thursday evening and the crowd was good, music was good, and had a lot of fun! I hear they have good hip hop nights on the weekends so I’ll definitely come back and I find myself partying in DTLA again!
