My wife, friends and I come here often. We love this place. We have become good friends with Mike and his employees always take great care of us. Besides the fact that the beer, wine and food is always amazing, it really makes a difference when you are treated on a personal level by staff. I highly recommend this place!

My boyfriend and I took the subway from Western to Vermont/Santa Monica, had some Hookah and found ourselves starving and thirsty… We walked a cool minute to melrose and were so relieved to find The Faculty! From the outside, it has a moody, yet welcoming vibe… we opened the door to a quaint neighborhood bar with sports playing on the two TVs behind the bar. I hate sports, my boyfriend loves them… this was our perfect medium. Im a hard alcohol girl but was happy to enjoy some great beer and a lovely Artisanal Cheese Platter which featured some of my favorite cheeses(Humboldt Fog) paired with honey and a whole grain mustard(not mustardy, just delicious.) *I should let you know I’m a very cheap person, and a huge cheese fan who is not likely to over spend money on a cheese plate; This was reasonably priced for what you get. The spicy Mac and Cheese was on point, we definitely felt some guilt after enjoying it. I have to comment to the people who spoke negatively about bar staff… this is a neighborhood bar, not a strip club. Bartenders are not paid to make you feel special, they educate you about food and beverages and provide a comfortable environment with great customer service. We got great customer service, and the bar tender was perfectly patient with me while I questioned him about every beer and rejected every food suggestion he made. Once we started conversation with the Bar Tender and let him know we were happy to include hi on our date, he was chalk filled with local recommendations and pleasantries. I am so happy to have a bar like this in East Hollywood and its only a subway trip/Über away(we Ubered it home to Western for $ 4.65) We will be back and will be walking next time. This place is great for a small group of friends to hang out and watch the game(about 5 or 6 people)

After touring the neighborhood, my boyfriend and I stopped in for a drink at The Faculty and really enjoyed ourselves there. Awesome décor, delicious beer and wine offerings, and a delightful assortment of food. I’d definitely recommend The Faculty as a great place for a date(there’s an ice cream place right across the street, too!), to meet up with friends, or to just hang out.

I’m so happy I don’t have too many followers because I don’t want this place to chance. faculty is THEBEST hot Italian sandwich in Los Angeles I’ve had yet. Great mellow atmosphere and neighborhood friendly vibe. Thank you for the warm home cooked meal!!!

This place rules. Neighborhood bar with a thoughtful selection of rotating craft beer on tap, deli style sandwiches and absolutely no pretense. Relaxed inviting atmosphere. The staff is ready to recommend something you’ll no doubt enjoy and give a nod of approval.

I truly love this place, the food, the feel, and the staff. My boyfriend used to live in the neighborhood so I’ve been coming regularly since we met, almost 3 years ago. The food is simple but made with love. We came for New Years Eve and the 3-course dinner was impressive and affordable. The owner really cares about food, and takes pride in his work. The bartenders are great. All of the meats are primo, and the chef salad is my favorite gd salad in all the land. Great meats, baby, I’m talking SOLID meats, and the dressing has a zip like no other. I hope this place continues to thrive.

the food is good and the name is COOL but the dude that runs this place is a TOTAL jerk. like super rude. I’ve been here a couple times, to eat for lunch, to eat for dinner, and also to drop off a resume, and each time I observed /encountered the lead bartender /manager /owner, he was just really short and rude and disinterested in any sort of human interaction with guests or with me. There are 10 million restaurants in LA, i like to give business to the people that are actually friendly and give you the time of day. 3 strikes and you’re out, Faculty.

Bar staff is semi friendly because of the already douchie crowd. Sitting in between two groups of people at the bar, not one of the two groups cared to acknowledge each other. Everyone is lost in their own conversation. Ambience: Post Trendy Beer Selection: not incorrigible. Shit for a sour, but had plenty of double ipas. Time: Thursday Night

Chill spot with the raddest bar tender. Walked in and immediately felt welcome. They even have a side patio that my dog could hang. Places like this are hard to find, so if you’re a good person come enjoy. Awesome food too.

Great drinks/some are even rare. Their hard ciders are delicious but very little to choose from. The food takes forever. The bartenders can be really rude. No customer service skills what so ever. Depends on who’s bar tending that day/night… Also, everything is way too over priced for a bar that only serves very little and bland food. Even during happy hour.

Great hidden gem! Not a beer drinker but I had a few great beers and a delicious«hot Italian»! Had some time to kill, checked Unilocal and wasn’t disappointed!

Met up with some friends to watch the Mets game. What fun. Small, intimate bar. Staff and regulars quite friendly. Craft beers. The pretzels were good, came out really hot. Pastrami was shaved thin, a little skimpy; it’s no Langer’s. DH enjoyed his brats, friends like the Italian Beef(like French Dip) and the Tuna Melt. I haven’t worked my way through the menu, but I’m told some blackboard specials like meatloaf are indeed really special. I hope so as I’d love to come here more often to catch a Mets game.

Will never set foot here again! My friend was given a hard time upon showing a foreign passport! Like hello genius this is LA, tourism is everywhere, and the service wasn’t great. It wasn’t until our other friend who’s in the military shown up that the bar tender asked him«do you vouch for him» which was incredibly rude, uncalled for, and totally unbelievable!

Went here during the day for lunch. They have healthy and veg options. The food is better than what you’d expect from a bar but very mediocre for what you’d expect from a restaurant. The ratatouille wrap was all veggies and was ok. The side was good with a vinegar lemony dressing. Service was no frills, quick and efficient. No problem splitting the bill. Ambiance is depressing. All black. Just passable for a bar. Totally lame and unappetizing for a restaurant.

The Faculty, just above Melrose on Heliotrope and across the street from Los Angeles City College, really captures the essence of the the wonderful Hel-Mel neighborhood: relaxed, eclectic, yet distinctively curated. The Faculty has a cozy neighborhood bar feel, nestled in a quaint bungalow style building with dark ambiance, a personable bartender, plenty of locals, good food and craft beers. Their food menu is relatively simple: salads and sandwiches(plenty of vegetarian options), daily charcuterie and cheese offerings. They have a variety of craft beers on tap(I just gave the knowledgeable bartender my taste preferences and he picked me out a tasty East Coast style IPA($ 7)). We ordered the Reuben($ 12) and Hot Italian($ 12) sandwiches. Sides are included, we picked German Potato Salad and the Mac & Cheese($ 2 extra, came recommended to me by someone). Everything was pretty great. The Hot Italian, filled with cured Italian deli meats and provolone was understandably salty but quite a treat. This baby dripped grease(if that is not a selling point for you, we can’t be friends) and was perfectly housed in a grilled, not-too-hard-but-very-substantial Italian roll. The Reuben was quite respectable — sticklers may or may not like the fact they used Pastrami in lieu of corned beef, but the fact their pastrami is delicious should make anybody who loves meat less mad. The rye bread they used is a bit flimsy, but it held together pretty well. Both sandwiches were salty, but there’s always beer to wash it down. If you find yourself at The Faculty and like mac & cheese, which I REALLY hope you do, I suggest you try theirs($ 2 extra as a side). Shell pasta in a thick, slightly spicy, pepper-flavored Mornay sauce — it’s really quite unique and you can tell they use higher quality cheeses. All too often, mac & cheese, especially as a side, is so disappointing, but this stuff is prettttyyyyy great. I am looking forward to coming back next time I am in the neighborhood!

The food is good. The beer is good. If you are a jerk or precious or just a crappy person, then you’ll get your feelings hurt when this establishment doesn’t take your sh_t! Good work gents.

«GETINHERE» demanded the neon sign, displayed prophetically above the entrance. A quick lunch and a beer, just what the doctor ordered.(Excuse the pun, we’d just come from a taping of ‘The Doctors.’) Fun fact, first bar in LA to feature suds from Ska Brewing Company from Durango, CO. The eats: 1. Ratatouille Wrap(vegetarian: summer squash, eggplant, tomato, bell peppers), served piping hot! 2. Rare Roast Beef(sandwich) with provolone and horseradish on rye. Yum. Brewskis: nut brown ale, Ska Brewing & a blond, St. Austell Full bellies, walk off your beer buzz with a visit to CATEYE Spectacles across the street, vintage & new designer sunglasses. Tell em Mike sent ya.

The Faculty was a great surprise. Was in the area and wanted some good food and drink. Pleased to report both were found at The Faculty. The food is expertly crafted by the Owner who was kind enough to chat with us for awhile. The most surprising thing we gleaned from our chat is his passion for wine. The Faculty not only boasts a great craft beer selection, but also a TON of great wine – a delightful and rare combination for an establishment to have both. The tuna melt was dynamite and the Mac and cheese side will leave me craving to come back. The service was top notch and the prices were so reasonable this may become a mainstay for us.
