The food here can be a bit pricey but good Chinese food in LA can be hard to come by. It’s not like NY where great Chinese is abundant. But the owner is accommodating and the waiters are always pleasant. The food is consistently good and so far this is best Chinese restaurant I’ve found in LA(it might even be the best). I’ve been going here for around five years now, ate there four days ago and it was the best it ever was. Love to know a place can get better with age. Sometimes they have a woman playing the harp, love the live music. It’s got a nice environment, shows some age, but still nowhere near a hole in the wall — the kind of place you can wear either jeans or a blazer.

Ordered chicken skewers. They came came out golden and delicious on the outside. Raw and gag worthy on the inside. Paid for my Mai Tai and split.

Our favorite Chinese food place! We usually do delivery or take out, but decided to eat in tonight. There was a beautiful live musical performance by a young lady on a traditional Chinese instrument(I’m not familiar with it, but like a large harp/guitar) with chimes. It was delightful! Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Our food was ready so fast! Everything tasted delicious. I got sesame tofu and garlic green beans and my husband got the tangerine beef with the sauce on side. We ate EVERYTHING it was so good! Definitely going to be back.

This is my favorite local spot to eat. I’m a huge fan of Chinese food and in my opinion you don’t get much better than The Palace! The staff is so friendly and they always deliver at a very reasonable time and the price isn’t terrible at all!

There are a few good things this restaurant has going for itself and my 3 star review was influenced most by those things. The food here is ok. For what it costs I expected better more flavorful food. Usually I like to come back to a restaurant and leave a better review but im from Northern Cali and dont visit the LA area often so that would be hard to do. I feel like the quality of food was not great maybe because we came in so close to their closing time. Ive experienced mediocre food and service specially at chinese places when you go in too close to their closing time but that shouldn’t be any reason for a restaurant to rush through your order and skimp out on their food. We ordered orange chicken, chicken fried rice, kung pao chicken, chicken and corn soup, and hot n sour soup. The soups were good. The chicken n corn is actually a chowder and i like it. The hot n sour was good too. The food was ok. It felt like they rushed through making it and forgot a few key ingredients. Not very flavorful and very bland tasting. Orange chicken was more breading than meat. Kung pao was salty. The fried rice was very bland too. They do have excellent service. The server and other staff were very nice to us and were happy to answer any questions we had. The restaurant has very low lighting and sets the mood for something I havent figured out yet. There is a nice chinese girl playing some very good classical chinese music live while you eat. Its a cool place to hang out and have a few drinks. When we walked in the door we were greeted with a smile and when we left we received farewells telling us to come back soon. This type of service always makes me want to return even if the food isnt great.

I had takeout. The price of the food does not reflect the quality. In fact, within a very short distance there is much better, much more reasonably priced Chinese food on the same street. Also, the ownership is shady. Google them and how they replaced the previous occupant.

The Palace is great! Like I’m eating tangerine chicken leftovers cold at 3AM good. Keep kicking butt the Palace! The servers know their food, the owner/manager is personable the hostesses are hot and will smile at you. On Tuesday’s they have free comedy and drink specials. What are you waiting for.

Please don’t order for delivery. The delivery guy extorts you for more tips if he’s not satisfied. I’d rather pick up somewhere else for quality or wait for the next day rather than going here.

Very unorganized for a holiday. I made a reservation for Christmas day and received a voicemail confirming my RSVP. My family shows up on 12⁄25 and the hostess says I’m not on the list. I told her I have a voicemail confirmation and the hostess says she doesn’t have time to listen to it. Then she grudgingly seats us, but we sit around for 45 minutes before being served. Never again.

Every time I come here, I fall in love with this restaurant more and more. My favorite Chinese spot in LA hands down. I stumbled upon this place while taking a stroll down Hillhurst and was curious to see what it was. I passed by it before and couldn’t tell– it looks like fortress! But it’s a real gem inside. I was taken back by the ambiance of the place. It’s classy, ornate, and has a calm atmosphere. Immediately you’re greeted by a lovely hostess(I’ve found all of them to be charming) and throughout your dining experience you’re taken well care of by an attentive staff. Tony, the owner, is incredibly friendly too. The food is always delicious. Each time I come I try to order something different and I almost always like it. The food can get a little expensive, but the noodle dishes are a lower priced option that are still super yummy. If cost isn’t a big deal, their house specialty Sizzling Black Pepper Beef or the Mongolian Beef is a-mazing. The Crab Rangoon is my favorite appetizer too. Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from. I’ve never had bad service here, and it seems as though they’re quick to resolve any customer complaint. I was also here on Christmas too, which was horribly chaotic. It was pretty much the only restaurant open that day, and it was obvious that the staff was working hard and doing the best they could. Any bad reviews from that day should be dismissed. I would give The Palace 10 out of 10 stars if I could. They totally deserve it.

Mediocre food. Small portions. Rude staff. Tried to give us a small 4 top table when we were a table of 6 while there were tables for 6 being unused. Asked for tea and they told us they don’t have hot water(that’s a code violation). Never again.

Just moved to the area and I think we found our go-to spot for Chinese. Good food, vegetarian friendly, nice atmosphere, very friendly staff. Great experience.

Tangerine Beef! Chinese Broccoli in oyster sauce! Shut up and eat it! If you have regrets, you have no heart… Seriously. No heart. It’s that good.

I feel like a lot of the negative reviews for The Palace are from people who are mad that they ordered Chinese food. You want fried carbs with an extra order of cheap grease? Yea ya do! Sometimes you gotta go for it. OK so it’s not Pine and Crane, but they don’t deliver, bro. 4 stars because this place is fast(less than 30 mins from an online order), pretty yum, and so hot, the ‘sizzling rice soup’ actually sizzled. #boom.

So bummed, we normally get great service here and don’t know if it was due to a new staffer or what. Basically: 1 — I ordered the whole fried fish, and asked if it came with sides. The waitress/order taker said it has steamed veggies and rice. 2 — was told to come in 20min to get it 3 — arrived 22min later and waited another 15min(total of 37min since we ordered) 4 — got home and was surprised to see only one item(a fish and sauce) not even rice 5 — called to complain and figure out what went wrong, the person on the phone blamed the other person and said they would make the veggies and give me rice 6 — waited another 10min after arriving and got a giant order of veggies and rice(in which they charged me an additional $ 13USD for?) WTF??? Best part they charged me an additional $ 1USD for the rice that was supposed to come with the original order. I had it… and was clearly upset and left but paid full price and even tipped. This place needs to get their staff trained, and knowledgable — I hate putting up negative reviews, just knew they wouldn’t take me seriously unless someone spoke up. They treated the whole incident with very little care or consideration for the customer experience.

Not a bad little place. Very well decorated. Music was nice but only in one side of the restaurant, odd but nice relaxing. :) Had the Mongolian beef, assorted fried rice, and the dumplings. Dumplings where not bad but did need the help of the dumpling sauce. Sauce was amazing though. :) Mongolian beef wasn’t too bad. The assorted fried rice was good. A little on the greasy side but still pretty good. Giving it four stars. Thanks for the meal! :)

Basic Chinese takeout style food. Quantity was decent and food was hot which was a plus. Got the chicken fried rice and it was pretty good for my taste. Basic and filling with decent chicken and specks of veggies — just what I would expect for $ 10. There is a little space above the restaurant where I went to see a comedy show. That was pretty cool :) Worth a try if you are in the area.

3.5 stars The Palace serves up decent Chinese food for the area, and is everything one would expect of a Chinese restaurant in a non-Chinese neighborhood. They offer delivery and have great lunch specials, which makes The Palace a convenient choice for weekday lunches. The ambiance is quiet and reserved. The interior is dim with stereotypical«traditional» Chinese decorations on the wall that clearly cater to the clientele in the area. I really enjoy the saltwater aquarium that is colorful with vibrant corals and fish. Definitely different from more traditional Chinese restaurants that use their aquariums to house fish, lobster and crab that are doomed for slaying and blackbean sauce. I usually stick to the stereotypical basics here: tangerine(orange) chicken, hot and sour soup, Mongolian beef, pan fried noodles and beef with broccoli. It is all decent. Not phenomenal, but good enough to satiate«Chinese» food craving.

Two stars… I had high hopes since it is one of the only«dim sum» places near me, but it was such a let down! The place was empty, and the dim sum menu consisted of maybe 10 items… Maybe I’m used to traditional cart dim sum but I really was hoping for better quality of the food at LEAST. I got soup dumplings for free when I checked in which was nice, but the waiter took my phone to the back kitchen to ask their manager… A little strange when it is clearly a check in offer. So we got soup dumplings, two orders of ha gow, and also a pork bun order. The pork buns were great, I really enjoyed that. But the soup dumplings were the size of a quarter almost and I am used to the large soup dumplings filled with broth and pork. These were bland and the pork was chewy. The ha gow was okay, although falling apart and sticking to the lettuce that it was served on(???) and the shrimp was not tender at all. As for service, they were all very polite but when my friend tried to order an item that was on the menu, our waiter said«No.» With no explanation or reasoning, even though it is on their menu. It seemed as if they just didn’t want to make them! Very strange, very bizarre experience. I definitely will be going to other dim sum places in the future.

One of the best chinese restaurants outside of the SGV, The Palace delivered a strong wonton soup, a rarity in LA(though I opted to get mine with just the wontons and broth). Also, the soup noodles were delicious. I also ordered a plain lo mein noodles with pork. However, the order did include vegetables unfortunately. Also, the service was a bit slow. On the plus side, they had a Unilocal review for free soup dumplings, which was much appreciated and were very delicious. Thanks to the Unilocal deal, I’m bumping what would have been a four star up to a five star.
