Spoke with TiGeorge and he is CLOSING the restaurant next week(mid April 2016). SO sad, the food was AMAZING and the place is wonderfully unpretentious.

They’re closing soon, so eat here before they move to Miami! Great Mom & Pop’s Haitian food! Came at a busy time, but there was only one waiter that was doing everything. Mike the waiter was super courteous, and helpful. It must’ve been my lucky day. After I ordered, washed up, and sat down, Mike brought my food literally about a minute later. He explained to me that there was a mess up on someone else’s order, which was coincidentally the order I placed. Yay! Parking seemed non-existent in this area. I don’t think they have a parking lot, but it wasn’t that hard to find parking near the school about a block away. I ordered the Griot(braised pork, red beans & rice, fried plantains, and spicy salad). Some of the pork pieces were a little dry, but the ones with fat on them were perfect! The sides were all flavorful, and the slaw/salad had just a good amount of kick to it.

I just moved to California from Miami, Fl where Caribbean/Haitian food is well known. I live in Pasadena where you can’t really find cultural foods unless it’s Hispanic. Don’t get me wrong I’m part Spanish but there’s a time where you want to try something you haven’t in awhile. So to continue I have been looking for quite some time for a place. I stumbled upon this on Unilocal.I drive through hours of traffic to find they closed and it’s it’s 6:12 when it says they close at 7pm. I’m highly upset, lost my appetite and just want to go back home.

Ti George’s Chicken was well worth the detour I had to make while I was in Anaheim for a business trip. The food was koupe dwet! I got the griot plate which came with bannann fwi, diri, a salad, and pikliz. I also had some pan patat for the first time which was quite good. My only complaints were that there wasn’t enough griot meat and the pikliz wasn’t very pike. Since I was on a business trip, I was eating by myself. One of the other customers invited me to eat with him and his brother and even picked up my tab. Overall just a great experience. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area to try the chicken, soup joumou, and bannann peze.

Ordered Cabrit Fricasse and there were 6 pieces of goat meat… that’s not cool. Don’t get me wrong, it was tasty. However, 6 pieces of meat for $ 16 is ridiculous.

Hadn’t been back in over 10 years. Well all is still great. If you are adventurous try the pickled habanero on your chicken.

My husband, sister and came here Christmas Eve and had an amazing meal! We split the beef dish, rotisserie chicken and a side of sweet plantains. It was all so delicious! We felt like we were eating a lovingly made home cooked meal in a kitchen in Haiti with the yummy food and warm, bright welcoming atmosphere. My hubby is part Haitian and was especially happy to find this little gem. We can’t wait to go back… Our new favorite place!

A quaint and delightful place to escape and enjoy a delicious meal! The appetizers are all yummy, the plantains are a must. It’s known for the chicken but the conch and fish are equally remarkable.

Here is another review from my personal archives… Tigeorge’s chicken is a place I have wanted to go to for some time now. Originally I had seen an episode on Huell Howser and stuck it away in the old memory bank for future use. Lucky for me I went through the old vault, dusted off my brain and headed down the street for a taste of Haiti. Tigeorge’s chicken sits in the city of Westlake, just within the shadow of downtown’s high rises along a busy stretch of Glendale blvd. Parking can be a little challenging but I found some on an adjacent side street. As I walked up the street my taste buds went into overdrive the closer I got. The unmistakable aroma of charcoal burning filled the air as I walked into Tigeorges. I was there for an early dinner and was able to find a seat in the richly colored dining room. The owner greeted me with a friendly handshake as I asked about the beautiful wood aroma. «Avocado wood» was his answer, and he proceeded to tell me all his meats were treated to the same amazing grill. I had mentioned that I heard of his place from Huell Howser and was interested in his world famous chicken. He smiled and ran off to the kitchen to fill my order, only then did I realize that I never looked at a menu, or asked what the sides were. Soon George returned and asked me for my drink order and at that point I decided to let this adventure take me where it wants to go. George returned with my drink and a beautiful full plate of amazing chicken. As he laid the plate in front of me, it felt so familiar like I was eating at my Uncle George’s place(if I had an Uncle George that is). I immediately dug in with reckless abandonment, first bite, the chicken. Smokey, sweet, juicy, the chicken burst with flavor with every bite. As my chicken quickly vanished I thought to myself, why do we not grill with avocado wood here in California? We certainly have an abundance of it here, and the aroma and flavor from it are amazing! Along side of the chicken sat a nice pile of Haitian style rice with some type of black bean mixed into it, kind of like what the Cubans do with their rice. The rice was nicely flavored and worked well to absorb the juices and flavor of the chicken. There was also a couple different salads to boot, first a standard fresh green salad and next to it sat a really nice vinegar based coleslaw type of salad that played off nicely with the sweet green salad dressing. Though everything was so delicious in its own rights, I had to try a little of the house sauce sitting at each table. As far as I can tell this sauce is just white vinegar and a huge amount of Scotch Bonnet peppers. The sauce was spicy with just the right amount of heat cut by a nice vinegary finish. Tigeorges is definitely somewhere I would go back and maybe next time I’ll try the goat.

Stumbled on this spot from vista Hermosa. Tigeorge will help you pick out the popular items. Food is tasty similar to Jamaican jerk chicken but the rice at the time tasted like old rice. Friendly service and check in to get a discount.

I’ve never had Haitian food until now and I do have to say, I like it! George is great and the place is very hospitable. I felt more like family than a customer. The place isn’t in an upscale spot so don’t expect the Ritz-Carlton. Parking is tough but the food is worth it and doesn’t cost much. I ordered rice and chicken and the flavor was amazing! It comes with plantains and the brown rice tops it! Loved it! They also make their own coffee and I have yet to try it but that’s for next time.

I went to TiGeorges again today since I was already in Echo Park for lunch to go. The place was empty! How is that for a late lunch time on a Friday? I literally walked in and it was like a scene from an old western… sans the tumbleweed! Anyway, this time was greeted by the joyful TiGeorges himself! Of course, with a smile!(The last time he was kinda of obnoxious and even a little rude) I ordered the ¼ chicken lunch special without Pikliz, even though he gave me a hard time about it. I wanted maduro(plantains) instead. I was most excited about my Citronade.(see pic). This time though, I was disappointed. TiGeorges needs a waitress or someone to help him. The meal was $ 11. Not too bad for lunch. Took a while for him to get my food together. This time the chicken was very dry. The rice was probably the best thing in my platter. The plantains were not good. Maybe over ripened before being cooked.(yes, that can happen). I really was looking forward to my juicy chicken and yummy plantains. Oh and he forgot my salad. My lunch special comes with a salad… I did not get it. My citronade was not sweet, even though there was a lot a sugar on the bottom. I was even more upset that AFTER I paid… I FORGOT to use my Unilocal % off! Pissed! This is the 2nd time that happened! IF I DO go back, I must remember to use my % off my meal! I will give TiGeorges ONEMORE time to get it right. He needs sauce pois(sos-pwa) and djon djon on the menu… this ISWHY People EAT Haitian food… for those two items in particular!!!(Or at least this Carib girl does)

I’m such a fan of TiGeorges! I didn’t know what to expect because I have never had Haitian cuisine. I was expecting something similar to Jamaican or Cuban or Caribbean(like Cha Cha Cha?), but TiGeorges was so much better than all those combined and then some! The hours can be hard to catch if you’re trying to grab dinner on a week night because they close around 6:30 p.m., but the meal is great for a Saturday lunch. The portions are very generous, enough for left overs. Almost every dish had habaneros but in different versions, so if you’re not afraid of a little heat, you will gladly enjoy TiGeorges. They use it in their rice and red beans, pickled whole, or slightly heated in shallots and oil to make timalis sauce(costs $ 2 and not as spicy as the free pickled version). The star of my experience wasn’t actually the chicken. My favorite dish was the Acra de Malanga – fried taro root with veggies. I’ve never actually had taro root outside of Chinese plates, and this was probably better than Chinese renditions. It had a gummier texture and was full of flavor(can’t go wrong with being deep fried). The rotisserie chicken just fell off the bones. The meat was so tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. The meat’s juices are also seeped into the red beans and rice for even more added goodness! Also worth mentioning is that if you typically don’t like plantains because of their overly caramelized, sweet, and mushy texture, you will enjoy the ones at TiGeorges, which are crispier, more natural, and not sweetened. And to top off my first Haitian lunch, the service was so warming and comfortable. The sons of the owner described the dishes with so much love and upbringing. They totally painted a picture that had me reminiscing of their childhood. I can’t wait to bring my friends to share this experience with them!
