This was my favorite place to go for Vegetarian/Vegan food. It was super close to my house. I wish they would re-open. I am writing this review in hopes that someone will see this and REOPENTHEBESTVEGANPLACEONEARTH! Yeah I said it ONEARTH! Their Gumbo, Fibs(vegan ribs), Lemonades, and Cornbread were SODELICIOUS! A little pricey and a little slow… but if you wanted to treat yourself… call a head and make it a great evening. I really want them to return! I MISSYOUVEGISOUL!!! I MISSYOUFROMTHEDEPTHSOFMYNOT-SO-VEGETARIANSOUL!

During my time at USC, I made MANY, MANY happy trips to Vegisoul. The last time I was in LA, I headed back– only to find out they’re closed!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This is some of the best food I have eaten– Vegan or whatever! I LOVED the Afu-ah plate! And amazing lemonade! EVERYTHING was amazing! I am so sad to see this has closed… Please come back!

Vegisoul please come back! I made the trek from the my safe cocoon on the Westside once to meet a group here, and although the food took a while to come out, I remember the mac and cheese, oh so good and it didn’t taste vegan at all, and the smoothie was out-of this world. Where oh where can a girl get some vegan soul food in this town?

Simply the best Vegan food I have ever eaten. This was my spot. Hopefully you will make a comeback… My favorite was the Stuffed Yam… but i liked several other things on the menu… I dont think another restaurant can come close this place

RIPVEGISOUL! … but when did you die? I’m so sorry I wasn’t around the last few months… but I had moved to the west side and it just wasn’t as easy to come over every weekend like I used to. Damn. I didn’t want it to end like this. I was just gonna go there today… and then your number wasn’t working. Went online and found out the awful news. I just can’t believe it still. I’ll miss you taco plate, I’ll miss you blueberry lemonade, I’ll miss you mac n’ cheese, i’ll miss you pineapple jalapeño burger, I’ll miss you fibbs… I’ll miss you most of all! Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddd! ps: come back!

I still love this place and have become quite a regular since finding this gem. I recommend: BBQ Chik’n sandwich Fibb Sandwich & Fibbs with baked beans They’re baked beans are the best I’ve ever had! mmmmm The only downside is that they aren’t very fast. The best thing to do is to call ahead or just plan on waiting a bit for your food.

OMG! WTF! WOW! I am eating my first Vegisoul meal right now as I type. I ordered the stuffed yam which is yam stuffed with«fibbs» and vegetables. It comes with red beans(yummy), your choice of greens or cucumber salad(I got the cucumber salad, a little bland) and I ordered a rice on the side since I’m Asian and I need rice with everything. It is SO good I couldn’t even wait to write a review. The nice cashier offered me a sample of the blueberry lemonade which was SO good! It helped ease the pain of waiting 20 minutes for my meal. but the food is worth the wait. Just be patient, I almost died. I can’t wait to go back and eat everything else!

I have been here once. Vegan soul food=awesome. They used to have a stand alone restaurant, but they closed its doors. It was in a really shitty neighborhood and having dinner at night was super sketchy… Get the #7 Fibbs. Total KORE.

Love this place at the first bite! This is such a hold in the wall place. But it’s my all time favorite, and best vegetarian soul food ever. Highlight items: Afu Ahh! Stuffed Yum, and Ribbs Afu Ahh! is spicy in your stomach, especially with their hot sauce and chilli pepper powder. Stuffed Yum is their house special and live up to the name. Yum is well cooked, soft and sweet and mingled with salty flavor borrowed from rib. Rib taste just like rib. And you got your vegetables as well. Service is a bit slow but very patient. Many people take out from them. This place is not for everyone. If you are ok with the ambiance and you don’t mind eating at a room only has probably three tables and located in a not-so-savory neighbor, this place is highly recommended.

Really, I only had one dish b/c we already went to Chef Marilyn’s and I’d really rate the mac n cheese 3 stars but give an extra .5 for catering to the vegetarian crowd. Woot woot. So after lunch, since we were in the area we decided to head by and check out the menu. I decided only on mac n cheese cuz we had just eaten. Oh yeah, it took FREAKINGFOREVER. We waited at least 15 mins to pick up the order which was freaking ridiculous. But the mac n «cheese»(it is vegan) was rather good. nice«cheesy» sauce, macaroni, and bell peppers all topped off with a barbeque sauce which was quite a nice combination. The only thing that did me out was that I neared the bottom and could see some ample reddish-orange oil sitting at the bottom of the container. I think I had just been in the middle of saying, «Wow, this tastes really healthy.» Bleeeeeh. Stopped right there. I’d be willing to go back and give it another shot but need to have some time that day to wait.

There are tons of restaurants that I have frequented for years but have not written a review about them. I kind of feel that the meal should be fresh in my mind when I write as opposed to writing from memory. Seems more fair. Vegisoul is one of these places. I’ve been eating there for years and obviously enjoy it because I keep going back. I tend to order the same thing over and over again — the BBQ Chikun — it’s #8 on the menu. #8 consists of a veggie chicken patty smothered in bbq sauce and comes with a side of beans, brown rice and greens. I think it costs about $ 9.00. Considering the outrageous prices at other vegan places, this isn’t bad at all. I also normally get the lemonade(regular or blueberry). I would love to give them 5 stars, but I have to be upfront and honest about their shortcomings. They typically take quite a long time to prepare the food. Even if you do call ahead you will have to wait. A couple of times my food was overcooked and thus inedible(probably only twice in several years), actually I can’t think of a third shortcoming. The people who own and operate the joint are very kind and professional. It is a family run business and they make everything fresh to order. It is frequented by a combination of locals and USC students so there is a very cool and unpretentious vibe. You won’t get any of the normal vegan preachiness here. Try it out and don’t be afraid of the neighborhood. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I don’t hesitate to call myself a carnivore because well I don’t particularly find anything that is green and cold very appealing to my tastebuds, but I’m willing to try anything once. So soul food and vegetarianism was a really big step for me as you might expect. The atmosphere is that of a soul food place there was two rasta-looking fellows that happened along and they were friendly enough. All in all the the food wasn’t terribly bad. I had the Chik’un and Yam. The chik’un tasted like bad teriyaki chicken, and the yam, well the yam was like a sweet potato which I’m being told is essentially what it is. My biggest complaint was not the food, but the serving size for 9 bucks. Definitely too small a serving at that quality for that amount of money. The one highlight was the Strawberry Cucumber Lemonade which was just delish ;) I’d go back for that. Take my review with a grain of salt, my friends told me I looked scared eating the food. I don’t think Vegisoul converted me to soul food or Veganism, I’m more than happy with the fake meat they put in the Jack in the Box Tacos.

So this is my first experience at a vegan spot. & oh boy when I tell U their food is el delicio. OhMyGosh ! So I took two of my friends so we could all order something different and get our taste on. I ordered the stuffed yam with chik’un(chicken)…HEAVENLY Friend #1 ordered stuffed yam with fibbs(fake ribbs)… BLISSFUL Friend #2 had the chili with cornbread… VERYPLEASING It is just so hard to believe that they can make soy and tofu taste so darn good. Don’t leave without sippin on their Strawberry Cucumber Lemonade. Who thought of that Idea I don’t know but I am so glad they did.

My soul sings for Vegisoul! I’m a big fan of vegan soul food and now that I’ve found a great place to get it in LA, I’m bound to be a return customer. This place is nothing to look at from their the outside or the inside, but it is truly a diamond in the rough. The cashier/server girl was just the sweetest and most helpful person ever. She gave great recommendations for what to order and helped me with the difficult decision of what choose(Vegisoul’s menu can make anyone’s mouth water!). I ordered the BBQ chik’n and«beef» combo with a «Tiger Would»(their version of an Arnold Palmer). My meal was damn delicious and came with some really tasty sides. I can’t wait to come back and try more of their menu! I’m especially looking forward to some of their mac and cheeze!

VEGANSOULFOOD? That just sounded so weird to me… I mean when I think soul food, I think of tasty comfort food with full of volume and flavor… but vegan??? I had to try it! I ordered the baby back«fibs» to go . f for fiber? f for fake? who knows lol but all I know is that baby back fibs was pretty dayam good! It came with the side of greens, beans and«fibs» on a bed of brown rice. I didn’t get the same«food coma» satisfaction I get from eating REAL soul food, but it was definitely tasty and filling! This place has few seating, but the parking outside says 20min parking… so I am assuming this is mainly a take-out place. I give this place 4 stars for being Vegan + Soul food and tasty, but I don’t know if I would keep coming back. The menu didn’t have much of variety and it’s a bit pricey for takeout food.

I try to explain this to my vegetarian friends all the time: I’m fine with eating vegetarian food, but I’d prefer to eat real meat. Why get fake ribs when I can get real ribs? It makes no sense. I have to say though, the fake ribs here are pretty damn delicious. I got the nachos which were recommended to me by a friend. After eating those nachos, I decided I think vegan cheese is unbelievably disgusting. I will eat anything you give me, but I can’t do vegan cheese. And it was COVERED with that cheese. But at least the ribs were good. The place is kind of bland, a little sketchy. Staff is very nice and helpful… I probably should have ordered something else. This definitely isn’t my go-to vegetarian restaurant, but it’s definitely something different for the neighborhood its in so I give it that.

How the hell do you screw up vegan food?! Ask Vegisoul. As a super Pisces, I usually feel empathy towards mom-and-pop joints. Or in this case, husband-and-wife. But I got so frustrated that I almost resorted to getting a salad at the Cal-Mart. Vegisoul has its own parking lot. Yay. Free. Parking. In. LA. Plus points for that. Now I’m going to minus a lot of points. The food took FOREVER. It wasn’t extraordinarily busy(about 2:30PM when I went for a late lunch), but there were 2 people waiting before me. I don’t know how long they had been waiting. There was a man and woman(not at the same table), when I walked in. I ordered the BBQ riblets w/kale, brown rice and beans. I also ordered a blueberry lemonade. This meal came to almost $ 14. So I was waiting in line and listening to the cashier(I think she’s the wife), and she is explaining to the customer that they no longer carry canned sodas, or sodas, at all. I immediately approve, and now I have high expectations for this little joint. It’s tiny and the radio plays 90’s hip-hop and R&B(nothing wrong with that). So I’m seeing some of the people who got here after me get their food first… hm… plus I’m very hungry. I was very curious as to what the man that came here before me ordered. He seemed to have been waiting FOREVER. I vow to not order what he ordered. And then when the food came out, I almost burst out laughing. It was steamed vegetables on top of brown rice! OH lord. I think 35 minutes had passed now. I felt bad for him. My food finally came. I had a sip of the blueberry lemonade… yuck! It was very sour and sweet – soda without the carbonation. What a waste of my $ 4. I took my food back to the office to eat, and when I opened it I realized: 1. the bbq riblets seem to be the ones you buy at the supermarket. I think MorningStar makes them? 2. the beans tasted like canned beans with more added salt. 3. the kale was good. But not worth waiting almost an hour for. So how do you screw up vegan food??? When it’s not even from scratch?! I DON’T UNDERSTAND.

Vegisoul is a nice break from all the fast food crap thats out there. If thoughts of soul food conjures up greasy, buttery, fatty goodness, then Vegisoul is South LA’s alternative. Nestled in the heart of S. LA, you’ll miss this spot if you blink. But when you do find it, it’ll be definitely worth it. The food is fresh(takes awhile after you order) and tasty. I ordered the Stuffed Yams(#14) w/the bbq chik’un, greens and beans. Definitely a favorite amongst the regulars, I was recommended this dish by more than 1 person. Service was friendly, the staff was more than welcomed to help make recommendations to those new. Was given a vegan carrot cake on the house. The virgin Mojito was clutch in terms of me coming back to this joint. Definitely hit the spot on a summer day. Met some real cool people who come here to eat. My theory is that vegetarians are friendly people. Minus one star off cuz its hot as hell in there! I guess it goes with the ambiance.

What a GREAT respite from all the fast food chains and unimaginative restaurants around the USC neighborhood! I am most definitely a meat eater, but the stuffed yam… so sweet, so succulent, so hearty… gaaahhh *drool* I am no longer a vegan virgin. I want MORE.

Seems like the people at soul food places are always so nice. This place is no exception, and the food is great as well. They had a lot of what you’d expect, as well as a few things that looked like stir fries. It’s a type of place that I think I’d have to try most everything on the menu and I’d probably be happy with them all. The neighborhood could be a little borderline, but I think college kids walk here from USC so it can’t be that bad. My only real complaint is that the cornbread isn’t vegan. C’mon now, you can make ribs vegan but not cornbread?
