I wanted to like it as it is a new neighborhood spot, but the three sandwiches we ordered were too wet(from the aioli?) and salty. The root salad had too much mayonnaise as well. A little bit too much going on with all the dishes we ordered. Was craving simplicity after a few bites.

Supporting local business doesn’t always pay off, BUT at Wax Paper the service and tasty sandwiches were impeccable. I will be frequenting any time I’m in the neighborhood. The cookies, coffee, and meats are all fresh and speak in colorful flavors when entering your mouth. If you’re in Frog Town be sure to save room.

The sandwich, an American staple, has been mistreated in our culture. From the dry crusts at airport kiosks to the ubiquitous sub chains shilling depressing meat, the Great Sandwich is all but unknown to the new generation. Wax Paper, a cozy shop in Frog Town, is changing all of that. Their sandwiches are more than just delicious. They are a tribute to the great sandwichmakers of history. And I can’t recommend them enough.

Had the Ira Glass sandwich. The flavors were not complex but divine in its simplicity. Fresh ingredients put together with alot of love. The standout was the bread, which usually makes or breaks a sandwich. In this case, Waxpaper did it up proper and legit. Simply delish!

The Audie Cornish: Classic American ham and cheese sandwich meets French staple jambon buerre. With a slightly sweet honey butter. And cornichon relish. On an amazing baguette. Wax Paper is the answer to all the sandwich questions in the world. (Side notes: Lauren, owner, is the sweetest ever. The building is Tetris’d shipping containers. They have La Croix.)

I was having the worst day at work and had just smashed my side mirror on my car, when I passed by this gem of a place. It looked really cool from the outside & people were sitting and eating and enjoying life so I decided to stop. Thank God I did. Everything about this café is perfection, from the design to the owners to the food. The sandwich I had(the Steve Julian) was incredible. I want to eat it every day. The owners, Lauren & Peter make you feel like family and are so friendly and kind. I ended up going back in after eating and getting a cold brew which was also great. I will definitely be back. I wish every restaurant had this much heart and soul behind it. What a treat. Thank you guys so much!

You know. the sandwiches were real good, but I thought it was over priced. I don’t think I’ll be coming back here unless I’m making big bucks. The people working in the offices right above are probably making big bucks and don’t mind cuz all they gotta do is walk downstairs to this sandwich shop and there doesn’t seem to be anything else around there. I thought it was pricey because whatever you wanna call that fancy salami or capicola, it’s still process meat right? correct me if I’m wrong. And that fancy aoli stuff? what is that really? just some oil? I don’t know man… they also had some potato chips in stock, I think I asked them how much they were and I didn’t buy them cuz I would’ve felt ripped off. They were like some indie brand type chips. I would’ve rather just go buy some hot cheetos or something. The options are cool. It looked like every sandwich had something different to offer. Overall it wasn’t a bad experience, just some new place to try out. I recommend it if you like fancy looking sh*t and tasty sandwiches. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Very happy to see them in the neighborhood and I hope they stay. However, the food is good, not great and prices way too high. Sandwich, side, and coffee was $ 20 in a tiny space with no overhead, tables, staff etc. No way!!! Either bring the prices to where I think they’re worth for a $ 12 – 13 lunch that«the community» can afford, or upscale it to something more unique; bread, dressings etc are good but typical make-it-at-home stuff I could do myself. Can’t see this worth the price so I’ll only come very occasionally. Good luck and hope it works out.

The other reviews weren’t kidding about this place. It’s absolutely amazing! Right off the L.A. River bike path, you’ll find Wax Paper tucked away in the heart of Frogtown. It’s a small space, but efficiently designed. As soon as you walk in, owners Lauren and Peter will make you feel at home with warmth and kindness. There are a few spots to sit inside and plenty of outdoor seating. I came with a group of five and we were all able to enjoy our sandwiches and sides together. All of the sandwiches are named after NPR hosts and they are handcrafted by Chef Peter who wrote the intricate menu. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into the seasonal ingredients selected for each sandwich. I ordered the vegan Lakshmi Singh and it was easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Vegan and vegetarian options are often an afterthought on menus, but not here. My friends ordered the Ira Glass, Kai Ryssdal, and Larry Mantle and everyone was equally satisfied. For a usually chatty group, we all ate in silence with the exception of several«oh my god“s and«can I try yours?» And I can’t forget about THESIDES! Several coleslaws and pickles are available along with delicious chips and drinks. I can’t recommend this place enough. If I lived in L.A., I’d be here all the time. Tip: Follow @WaxPaper on Instagram for regular menu updates and specials. Their account is quite funny, too!

I’m a man of many words, but who has time for that! I love these sandwiches. Seriously have been daydreaming about the 2 I’ve had already. Owners are super sweet and clearly are trying to remember everyone’s name which is nice. They already have more reviews than I do which worries me. Soon I’ll have to wait in line?! Well. it will be worth it. Oh, and by the way… if you’ve read this is owned by the guys behind Animal. it is not at all related. Just 2 great people making amazing food.

Hey this place is pretty good! Grab a nice sandwich if you’re in the neighborhood… literally, cause it’s buried in the back of frogtown, kinda has a Venice vibe, small quaint hood then a giant modern office building and lil wax paper nestled beside in a shipping container. I had the Tuna while my associate had the veggie. They were great! Fresh. Place is super small, 3 – 4 seats so don’t come with a group, best for take out while on the run.

So happy to find this adorable little sandwich nook near my house(which is situated in a repurposed shipping container-very cool). Seating is limited, but there are a couple of outside tables and a small park nearby, not to mention it is right by the LA River path! The service was fast and very friendly. Had the Steve Julian(their delicious take on a banh mi, I suppose), and every ingredient was simply divine. I can’t wait to return and try all of them!

Stopped by Wax Paper for a sandwich today and this place is next level stuff. Took my sandwich and my dog for a walk along the river… I will be back many times over.

This place is stellar. I can see why they have 5 stars… First off, it’s amazing how creatively they’ve utilized this small space. There’s 3 stools to eat at a counter inside, and lots of outdoor seating. I love the charming décor and how bright and airy the space is! Onto the food — each sandwich is so unique but also straightforward, which I really appreciate. They’re not relying on gimmicky ingredients or food trends. It’s just super well-sourced ingredients put together in very thoughtful combinations. As a vegetarian, I am so happy to have two delicious options(one is even vegan). The veggie-centric sandwiches are not«throw away» by any means. In fact, if you ask the owners or look at other reviews and social media, the Ira Glass(avocado sandwich on spectacular bread) is one of their most popular sandwiches. The vegan sandwich has a pecan pesto on it that is to die for! So many little touches make it stand apart as well. Like seasonal coleslaw, Rusty’s chips, real sodas, and daily specials. Today they had a winter citrus aqua Fresca that was super bright and refreshing. If you have time to dine in, it’s lovely to sit inside and chat with the darling husband and wife owners. Or enjoy one of their outdoor tables(dog friendly!). It’s also a perfect to-go option. They have a frequent buyer card so you can get a free sub after a few purchases. Just get one because once you try it, you’ll surely be back!!!

Who knew sandwiches could be so delicious! Also, this is a reason to see a new part of the city – I grew up here and never heard of frog town. The space is warm and so are the staff – got to meet the friendly owners. The Ira Glass is appropriately vegetarian and he, I mean it, is delicious. If you listened to NPR before it was cool, you’ll love every bite and every moment you spend at Wax Paper. Pro-tip – call ahead and order. Take your sandwich and a friend for a walk along the LA River or the Elysian Valley Gateway Park.

This place is so good that I’m still thinking about the sandwich I ate yesterday. Just opened in Frogtown, you have a Wax Paper. It’s a small family owned and operated restaurant so you know you’re going get amazing service, and going to get amazing FRESH tasting food. My first visit(I will be coming here a lot, yes it’s that good), I ordered their Larry Mantle, a salad, chips and an ice coffee(they offer almond milk). Everything tasted so good. I want to try their other sandwiches in the future. This place is a must try, trust me you won’t regret it. Plus you have the beautiful view of the La River once you’re done eating.

I LOVE this place! This cute sandwich shop is down the street from my house. I walked over today and had their Tres Leches Cinnamon Toast Crunch for breakfast. The bread… outstanding, the flavor of the spread… delicious! Complete bliss! I also ordered a sandwich for later, Kai Rydsdal is new to the menu a tuna sandwich that isn’t just a normal tuna sandwich it is amazing! Packed with flavor the lemon wedge added a nice citrus component that completed this masterpiece. If you live in the area, or passing through the bike path, or just craving a yummy sandy this place is definitely worth stopping by! The owners are so nice too! You just can’t beat going somewhere with friendly service and tasty food. This new spot should be on everyone’s list as a MUSTGO!

Absolutely some of the best sandwiches I’ve had in L.A. Let me backtrack a bit and start by saying, Lauren is the best! Smiles and keeps a good conversation going. A welcoming atmosphere. Peter has got the chops! He makes a mean sandwich. The Lakshmi Singh is hands-down one of his signatures! Cute space with plenty of room to sit back outside and enjoy a sunny day by the river. Hit this place up next time you’re riding along the L.A. River or drive down! Either way… Get it!

Great new sandwich shop right by the LA river! Both the owner’s work in the shop and are super nice. The sandwiches are simple, fresh and pack a bang of flavor(the one I had was savory, with just a hint of sweet). One of the best I’ve ever had! If this is the shape of things to come in frogtown, we’ll all be chirping happily for a long time to come! Oh, and the iced coffee is the real deal! Highly recommended pitstop if you’re driving up the 5 or the 2, or biking down the river!
