Prospect Hill Plantation Inn

Seems like it’s run by amateurs, but the dining room staff (older ones) were really good at representing what this place should be. Not much focus on the details for guests. Didn’t get anything much in the way of orientation (is the room bottle of wine complimentary?), limited amenities, derelict swimming pool. On the positive side, the landscape is really nice with beautiful lawn and trees, good parking and lots of interesting animals to see. It could be a lot better with a little more effort on the part of the owners/​staff.

Prospect Hill is a lovely, historic retreat managed and maintained by equally delightful owners and staff. We stayed in Miss marcie’s room which was very spacious, well appointed and decorated perfectly. Truly lovely. The room, although located above the main dining area was a perfectly quiet sanctuary. Without a doubt, the grounds are spectacular and worth taking in. Plan to spend time just enjoying the property. Breakfast was included and was exceptional. They accommodated vegetarian diets as well without compromising any taste or quality.
For the Restaurant: A can’t miss! While the greater Charlottesville area has many classic inns and restaurants to dine, Prospect Hill is among the best! We highly recommend the dinner as presentation, taste and quality will far exceed even the loftiest of expectations. Delicious!

When my daughter suggested that we stay at this property while on a side trip to Monticello after visiting her in Richmond, it sounded nice. I was totally unprepared for the stately beauty, the historical significance and welcoming arms of the owners, Doc and family! We stayed in the Overseers Cottage and the night was perfect for a roaring fire, viewed from our 4 poster bed and the lovely attached sunroom. Breakfast in our room in the morning was great and enjoyed in the sunny sitting room with great «green» views. We walked around the property in the morning, used the tree swing and hammock, and communed with the llamas and horses. It was a beautiful property and will be on our «must do» list when we return to Virginia!

My wife, myself and our «daughter», a 7 yr old bull mastiff just had our second stay at Prospect Hill. This is our absolute favorite place to get away to for several reasons. The cottages at the Inn our beautiful. They are historic, rustic and comfortable. The Inn keepers and staff are fantastic. They make you and your pet feel at home. The views and lay out of the farm are gorgeous. Now the food. WOW! We ordered the basket dinner that’s available when the restaurant is not open. We were cooked a five star 3 course dinner with each course personally delivered by the chef to us in the gazebo. One of the best meals we have ever had. Just as wonderful is the breakfast the chef prepares each morning. Everything about this inn is first class yet comfortable!

My wife, myself and our dog just spent a night at the Inn and all 3 of us had a wonderful time. This Inn is the perfect spot to unwind, enjoy some great food and take in some beautiful scenery. I believe our small 116 lb mastiff had the most fun running free and playing with the 3 resident canines! Not just a dog friendly inn but more like a dog loving inn! We cannot wait to go back for a long get away! Great place and even better people.

We LOVE this Bed and Breakfast. The new owners live on the premises and are warm and hospitable. The attention to detail and charming touches make this the perfect location for a quiet weekend getaway. We spent the day in Charlottesville and came back to the Dinner Basket and enjoyed an absolutely delicious dinner in our room by the fire. Can’t wait to return!

I highly recommend Prospect Hill. I went with a friend for one night. The atmosphere was friendly and informative. Our room was adorable and very comfy. The grounds and the house are spectacular and historic. We did not do dinner, but breakfast was delicious.

Wonderful food and service. Make a reservation and treat yourself to a great culinary experience. Arrive early in nice weather and stroll the grounds with your complimentary glass of wine.
