Specializing in homeopathic, medicinal herbs and essential oils, Timberlake is a fun store to explore. Left in a natural state, the building’s door sticks in the humidity, the floors are wood and sometimes creak; the windowless dark walls lend a certain coziness, but because of the open center aisle, the room is not claustrophobic. Of course, if anyone has claustrophobia, Timberlake might actually have something natural to lessen the anxiety. What immediately caught my eye were the large glass jars of various bulk herbs lining the wall on the left. They have nearly every imaginable type ready for anyone who wants to order something by weight. On the display counter on the right, already pre-packaged were herbal capsules for various ailments. Although the packets didn’t label the ingredients, when I asked, the staff provided me a listing of what each contains. Another customer had asked about the cleansing tea, and was given a sheet with the instructions. There’s a fair amount of books of herbal remedies and uses, although the employees seem to have a decent working knowledge of the various offerings. I’ve never seen ear candling candles for over the counter sale, so it was interesting to see them and hear the employee explain to a customer how they worked. And anyone who wants to make his or her own massage oil, Timberlake carries a few of the basic essential oils. Timberlake also carries an herb additive for pet food, so it seems every member of the family can find something here.
