This organization is a fraud. They have an extreme need for volunteer mentors(who fund big /little experiences on their own and don’t receive any money from BBBS) but yet use their publicity to instead seek money rather than to recruit mentors. They then use the money on their salaries and to sponsor activities that, while nice, don’t further to reduce the extreme mentor shortage. Just notice the next time you hear about this organization what it is affiliated with and it’s normally an event that they are soliciting money at. They use their community resources to get event tickets and give to their«friends.» When the organization is called out for their inefficiency, they tell you that they are taking your child off of their«non-existent» waiting list. Years of waiting… For nothing. Get a kid’s hopes up by going to an orientation abt the program only to never call you again. Look elsewhere. I won’t ever donate my money to this organization again. Your child is nothing but a statistic to them. Sad. Until I actually sought their mentoring services for my child, I had no idea what they were really like.

I’ll just talk a bit about the process. I’m not even quite sure why I’m reviewing this place! First you’ll sign up for an orientation of sorts. You’ll meet in a group with around 10 people and go over a bunch of information about the program. They talk about what to expect, their goals, how they are funded, dos and don’ts, just a lot of information. It’s about a 90 minute mostly power point presentation. I had expected a bit more of a Q&A and while you can ask questions it’s mostly just a presentation of what to expect. While you’re there(or later if you wish) you’ll sign up for an interview where you come in and meet with their placement representative one on one. This person will gather information about you and help pick out a little who is right for you and you are right for him or her. She will ask a ton of questions about your life and friends and basically everything that makes you who you are. I was very surprised how in depth the interview is! It takes about an hour and a half to two hours. I won’t spoil any of the questions in case they are supposed to be a surprise! Also I forgot to mention you’ll bring some references to this interview as well as drivers license and proof of insurance. You’ll also need to have a background check done. Nothing too surprising really. After that you just sit back and wait a few weeks for them to check your references and hopefully find a good match for you. Everyone I’ve had to deal with so far has been very nice and helpful and willing to answer questions. I’ll hopefully update my review a bit when I’m further along in the process.
