A SEVENTEENYEAROLD owns and runs this place. Yep. And here i was thinking there was no hope for humanity, haha. And, this 17 year old makes a damn fine summer treat all for as little as $ 2(for a small) A plethora of sassy flavors like Tiger’s Blood, blueberry and Banana, which you can eat on their own or combine with up to two other flavors. I have sampled the green apple and mango, but my heart still is with classic cherry. Kids with the work ethic of Mike are few and far between these days. Go support him! You have until Sept 19!(then you have to wait for your ice until next year) Oh and CASHONLY

1st visit: Black Cherry & Lime 2nd visit: Tiger Blood & Lime 2nd visit: Also tried Bahama Mama If you want a tasty treat that won’t hurt the calorie bank, go here! It’s perfect for days after you run through the Highlands or in Cherokee Park. Big Mike’s is in the Dairy Mart parking lot on Bardstown Road. When you order, you can choose from 3 different flavors per order. Each time, I’ve settled on 2 different flavors. Let’s have yin & yang… not yin, yang, & the fluffy bunny rabbit that decides to hop in to your flavor. Not that there’s anything wrong with a fluffy bunny, but 2 flavors are enough! Prices as of 8÷12÷15: Small: $ 2 Medium: $ 3 Large: $ 6. I’ve ordered a Medium each time, but I can easily see a Large in my future. Big Mike is definitely generous with the ice(Medium size pictured below). Out of the flavors I’ve tried so far… Black Cherry & Lime are my go-to flavors. I used to live very close to this place(before it opened). I’m glad I’m not as close as I used to be or I’d be here EVERYSINGLEDAY! If I have one piece of constructive criticism it would be seating. There is 1 picnic table. Maybe have a 2nd one? Just a thought. – Go here after you run. – Go here when you’re sweaty. – Go here when you’re walking by. – Stop in while you’re driving somewhere. You won’t regret it!

Seasonally open through mid-September. Some beauteous colored sugar ice, starting at a measly two bucks. Loaded with flavor, just the right texture — melts in your mouth with no need to chew. The blueberry and lime flavors turned my tongue a lovely deep blue. But here’s the thing… The next day, I had the GREENEST stool ever. Seriously. The color of goose droppings. I eat plenty of leafy greens and hearty greens, but my discharge is never THAT color. Anybody want to confirm my result? Come on, Unilocalers! In the name of science?!

I wanted a slushie but wasn’t sure where to get one somewhere in the Highlands at 9pm. A friend asked me if I was going to Big Mike’s. What is this Big Mike’s? Can I get a snow cone? Will life be awesome? The answers to those questions: Big Mike’s is a tiny little shack thing in the parking lot of the Dairy Mart on Bardstown Road. You can get shaved ice. It’s like a snow cone but less… poke-y. And life will be AH-MAZING. You can get up to three flavors per order. I settled on two: watermelon and pink lemonade. A pretty awesome combination, if I do say so myself. The price is about along the lines of the prices from SnoWhat.
