Chocolates are so cute and fun! We got an assortment of truffles and bourbon balls. Work is close so we will be back for a little snack here and there. Great spot to get fun gifts for people, too!

I am so glad they opened a new location downtown. It actually might be a bad thing for me though as I run past it every day on my lunch break and it is far too tempting. Cellar Door Chocolates makes gorgeous candies that are all like pieces of art. So unique and pretty but too tasty to not devour. I enjoy making a little gift basket out of bourbon balls, truffles and hot cocoa. It is a bit pricey but well worth it.

This Cellar Door, like the other location in Butchertown Market, is awesome! They have so many amazing items to choose from, including my favorites — Unicorn Bark and Dark Chocolate Covered, Sea-Salted, Bourbon Twinkies. SOGOOD! I highly recommend checking out Cellar Door if you’re in the mood for something sweet, or if you’re looking for a gift for someone. Everyone loves chocolate or candy, and Cellar Door has so many items that are perfect for gifting to anyone from your significant other to a co-worker. You truly cannot go wrong here! Also, like the other location, they have all kinds of nerd chocolate! We’re talking Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Dr. Who, etc. Any nerd in your life would love to have it. Promise. And I would know.

Dark chocolate shaped like the Millennium Falcon– uh… MF Yeah! They do such cute, clever, creative chocolates – and oh so tasty. I got my husband a year subscription to these chocolates and it really is the gift that keeps on giving. He gets a little surprise package each month with a sampling of the latest from them. So it’s sorta like getting a preview of the best of what they have going on – fun, quirky, unusual. The unicorn bark with lucky charm type marshmallows one month, a dark chocolate Santa Claus on a stick for the holidays, or chocolate covered marshmallows with hearts, or a quirky type of fudge — pumpkin something flavored in the fall A truly awesome chocolaterie. Or is it chocolatier? Whatevs – it’s awesome chocolate, get some!

I’m slightly obsessed with cellar door chocolates. I’ve gotten so many people cellar door chocolates as presents – and always some for myself My favorites are the bourbon sugar cashew bark and the sea salt caramels, however you can’t go wrong with anything here. My last visit I tried the peppermint truffle and it was amazing! Also one my last visit, I realized that this location has a seating area and serves drinks and treats – and 20% if you work in downtown during weekdays. I made the mistake thinking that only the one in butchertown market had a seating area – whoops! Now I know there are two cellar door chocolates I can go to get truffles and bark for friends, as well as sit down and enjoy a drink and a yummy cupcake!

First visit. Went w/the Mexican Mocha latte as suggested by the employee. Was caught off guard by the spiciness but very good. Great way to start the day. 3 Stars given because they were out of all but 2 flavors. Will definitely try again

South Fourth Street, recently notable for little more than being the downtown wig district, now has the makings of a chocolate zone. The bourbon truffles at Art Eatables several doors to the south are technically a different sweet experience than Cellar Door’s bourbon balls, but with apologies to Muth’s I’d say there’s little disputing the notion that these two places are the finest heavyweight chocolatiers the city has to offer. At the very least that’s true if we’re talking about mixing chocolate with the region’s life blood, bourbon. The chocolates here are all beautifully crafted, but the many-flavored bourbon balls are the best item they have to offer. I envision the concierges at the Seelbach and Brown sending visitors here, and getting a little sweet kickback in return. For locals, I noticed that if you bring your own mug, they will fill it(any size) with coffee or tea for $ 2. That’s pretty much a steal, although I expect that most of the time if I’m heading here during the winter I’ll have a hard time not getting one of their spiced hot chocolate.(Chocolate historians all know that cacao was never a sweet bar to the Mayans, who instead created a foamy peppered drink from the revered pods.) As I write this review, the place has only been open a week, so I have no idea how it may evolve.(More café or coffee shop than chocolate shop? Will they start serving sandwiches or pastries?) But I’ve had their chocolate enough to know that I’m gonna enjoy fattening up a bit here this winter.
