I love running. Any run is a good run, but this year the Run, Run Rudolph race left a bit to be desired. This was the third year in a row my friend, Julia and I have ran in this race. It’s nice to have a little 5K run the day after Thanksgiving to burn a few calories while having fun. We dress up in Santa or Rudolph gear and usually have a cocktail afterwards. It is a fairly easy course that starts and ends on 4th and Main iin front of the Convention Center. My complaints: This year you had to pick your race packet up the day of the race, so lines were a little long. I picked up at Fleet Feet the day before last year. The race packets were inconsistent. My bib number did not have my name and age group listed, but my friend’s did. I received a bag with my race shirt, but my friend did not. Just small– but strange things like that. The course was not quite a 5K– which is 3.1 miles. I wore a Garmin and so did Julia and it was 2.85 miles. At the end of the race, there were water coolers with paper cups and trying to get water was too big of a pain, so I skipped it. With that being said, the atmosphere is still fun as the race kicks off the Light Up Louisville festivities. Last years’ race was more organized and well planned. Will I run it again next year? Probably.

Definitely not a flat course like they said, thought I might die running back up the hill under the Galt. It’s one of those races that are just good exercise, nice to get in a run not on a treadmill and get a nice shirt. Not a timed race and not much fanfare going on before, just the horn.

5K the Louisville Way ! Run for 27 minutes and 18 seconds. Once you cross the finish line pass up on the water and banana and head to the corn dog stand, wash it down with a Bud and top it all off with a funnel cake:) — The Run Run Rudolph 5K loses a star because they didn’t have anyone warn you when the horn was going to start the race so I didn’t have my Ipod at the right music for the run. Then I discovered that walkers were intermingled with the runners which made for alot of weaving, bobbing, starting and stopping. The course description said mostly flat but didn’t mention the hill at the waterfront nor the larger hill up 4th street coming away from the river. I just imagined I was running up the hill at Griffith Park and that kept me going. Good crowd, good course, good time.
