This small gem of a museum tells visitors about the rich history and culture of Portland. The museum collection isn’t extensive, but is informative and entertaining. The permanent pieces and signage share stories of people and places key to the development of the area. The collection of architectural elements, especially the terra cotta, chimney caps are not only beautiful but were once found throughout this neighborhood. The Museum also has sections of wrought iron gates and wooden corbels. There’s a lovely garden in the back that offers a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the architecture. It also features an interesting sculpture that incorporates stories about local buildings. The bookstore near the front has some wonderful items like letterpress posters and notecards. Great place to pick up unique gifts while helping support this terrific museum.
