There is something really comforting about the Spinelli’s on Baxter Avenue. Maybe its the loud punk music, maybe its the paper plates and Styrofoam cups, or maybe its the bathroom that is made of hundreds of pieces of mirror for a full 360 degree view of yourself as you pee. Whatever it is, I like it, I look forward to going and sinking my teeth into some of the best mozzarella sticks in the city and chowing down on a slice of green pepper and onion that’s bigger than my head. This place is a staple. Is it always sparkling clean, fast and without the homeless man that buys 1.00PBR? Nah, but that’s okay. I came for the pizza. I came for the fried Oreos. I came for fried mac ‘n’ cheese bites at three in the morning while having a slight buzz. Spinelli’s is cool, whether you like it or not. It’s unapologetic. They’re like, sit down somewhere, watch Adult Swim on the tv and eat greasy stuff, and if it takes 40 minutes, deal, cause its good and we know you’ll be back. And they’re right. I have to admit, they probably hire some of the chillest kids in the ‘Ville. And yeah, you’ll probably hear them yell at each other. But that’s part of the experience. Come as you are, don’t expect anything and you’ll be pleased. Hey, don’t forget, write a review on Unilocal and show your server for free fried Oreos.

Disgusting food… And it took an hour and a half for delivery. Definitely not worth the wait

I have been coming to Spinellis for about 7 years now. If you are looking for a cheap, huge, delicious, filling slice of pizza, this is the place to go. The best part is that they are open until 5 am, so your pizza craving can be satisfied at almost any time of day. I have tried a few different types of pizza, but my absolute favorite is the white pizza. It is hard to pass up. I did not give 5 stars because the service can be pretty slow, but the pizza is worth the wait.

Ordered one white pizza at 1:40 am… Christmas night… It is currently 3:14 am… Live less than ten blocks from said pizza place… Still waiting for said pizza… Is it worth it? Maybe if I were on vacation and didn’t give a crap about the time. They quoted me an hour. It’s been an hour and a half. I hate sounding like some pretentious white priveleged person pissed that their pizza is extremely late… But I am completely that person right now. Not happy. Ashamed and full of guilt with an empty stomach as an awkward accessory. Now 3:17… Three minutes feels like eons when you’re waiting extra long times for a simple, common pizza. Never again.

Best pizza I’ve ever had! So glad I came here opposed to every other pizza place in Louisville! Wow! Wish I could give 6 stars!

I had heard so many great things about this place. My son had been several months prior and loved the pizza. Upon entering we were told to take a seat. We waited, and waited. There was only one other person there and he was just drinking a beer. Finally we gave our order and the waitress was less than friendly. The pizza came out and had very little toppings and the first three or four inches of the pizza from the edge had none. The pizza itself was nothing to brag about taste wise… Just terrible and bland. I’d rather had pizza Hut. For the price it was a huge disappointment. Sadly I won’t be going back. They got two stars instead one because of the fortune teller machine and the mural of Burt Reynolds.

I love spinellis I is the best pizzeria in Louisville. I came in at 1230 pm and felt comfortable immediately. Then I tried the Oreo, it was bliss and free. Thank you Spinellis you are the best.

This has been the worst experience ever. They sent my order to the wrong address. My food arrived cold after the driver calls me looking for my house. Uhm I live in an apartment. He didn’t bring the right drink. When I called the manager blamed it on everything but take responsibility and fixing it. I will never order from them again. Ugh totally disappointed

So Like most everyone I have visited Spinelli’s several times and this is not the only one I have visited, but it’s the one I hit up the most considering it’s very close to my house. It is hit or miss a lot of the times and while I can’t say I have received poor service, I can say that it seems the quality of the pizza has gone down quite a bit. The interior is super cool with a lot of weird artwork painted on the walls. There is of course the nifty little car that you can sit in and eat your pizza — classic, but the seats are kind of dingy. It does get kind of loud on the weekends so be prepared for that. The pizza is OK, nothing to write home about anymore, whereas the first time I remember having it, the pizza tasted much better than it has since I first made my way here. It could also be that I have had more pizza places(of the 800 in Louisville) that have higher quality pizza for roughly the same price. One thing they do have that will keep me coming back again and again are those damn soft-inside-crunchy-outside-deep-fried Oreo’s. I can eat about 4 by myself and if I pushed myself probably more. The one time I ordered delivery from here I feel like the delivery charge was really steep and it unfortunately did cut into my driver’s tip a bit. My take-out experiences have been much better, when I walk in they have never gotten anything wrong and generally can recognize me by my voice. I’m giving it three stars because it is what it is. Decent food and open late. There is no WOW-Factor here for me, it’s just meh.

Fun, colorful location, always hoppin’. Toppings and combinations are good, but the biggest disappointment is the crust. It lacks texture and flavor, and tastes like paste/white bread. OK for late night desperation if it’s hot and fresh(it’s «punk pizza», as Emily H. said), but after that, it’s actually pizza I can take or leave, and that’s saying something.

Spinelli’s does have some of the best pizza in Louisville. This is the location I have always gone to because I frequent Bardstown rd. Interior is cool and has good setting for what the restaurant is trying to be. Unfortunately most of the seats in the dinning area are torn or damaged and have been for quite a while now and haven’t been fixed. This limits the seating greatly. Most of the staff are friendly and food is great. Although it can take a long time to get your food, as I have waited as long as an hour on a slice of pizza.

To me there are 2 kinds of people in Louisville: those that love spinellis and those that don’t. I am of the latter persuasion. I used to go here a lot when a few years ago because of the cheap beer and I had some really good times but now I’ve grown up some n it just doesn’t do it for me. I still order the pizza every once in a while when it’s super late and pizza must be had, but the leftovers the next morning leave me swearing to never order it again. It’s just. Bland. And the garlic butter isn’t even there to save the day because it is basically a lil cup of yellow oil. Whenever I hear someone say they like spinellis I just assume they are young, inexperienced, and drunk. Just like I used to be!

Waited almost 1.5 hours for delivery and paid $ 10 for a «Philly Cheesesteak» that was 75% bread and 25% filling. Boo on y’all.

Spinelli’s is A+ when they’re on and borderline awful when they’re not. Coming from the east coast, I was initially puzzled by Louisville pizza. It’s somewhere between Chicago style and NY style. A kind of chewy, dense dough that’s not unappealing, it’s just no what I’m used to. I found Spinelli’s, which advertises itself as «Philly Pizza,» which isn’t a thing. Philly has subs, sure, but there’s no such thing as a Philly style pizza. But whatever – it’s the closest I’ve had to thin crust in along Bardstown Road, so their advertising weirdness gets a pass. I’ve ordered pizza from Spinelli’s and it has easily been 5 stars. The meats pizza is phenomenal. I’ve also gotten pizza that was cold and bland. It’s a crap shoot.

The key here is not to go in with any expectations. Don’t expect to be waited on. Don’t expect them to tell you your pizza is ready for take out. Don’t expect them to even cut your pizza. Most importantly, don’t expect your pizza to be good. If you can handle that level of mediocrity and ineptitude, this is your place!

When the original location opened, this place rocked. Now, it’s just there. Pizza is greasy, as is 95% of the food on the menu. Last time I was there, I saw roach traps in the bathroom. That’s not a good sign of being cleaned. I can name many pizza places locally better.

Service is bad and they should feel bad. Pizza always tastes like crap and they need some real silverware and cups. My fork always breaks on your chewy bland crust.

My son and I had a nice big ass slice of pizza inside the old car. This is the second Spinelli’s we have tried. Good food. Friendly waitress. Fun to look around.

I’m aware that Spinelli’s can be a divisive place. You either love it or hate it. I, in fact, love it, but I’m not blind to the fact that it’s sometimes dirty. The waits can be long. The other diners can be a bit … interesting. But, in my opinion, you should measure a business against what it is seeking to be.(You wouldn’t hold a McDonald’s to the same standards as, say, Vincenzo’s, would you?) And Spinelli’s is grunge. It’s punk pizza. It’s a dive-y spot where locals know they can get a giant slice of East Coast-style pizza at 3 a.m. And for these reasons I love it. I love that I can count on Spinelli’s for a late-night bite and that Burt Reynolds will be looking down at me – sans clothes and on a bear-skin rug — from his giant mural while I dine. I love my memories of scanning the comic book covers that cover the long wall in the large dining area.(Have you seen the cover in which the super heroes debate if they should kill Hitler? It’s deep.) I love that if the dining area is cramped you might be able to get a seat in the car-turned-booth near the cash registers. I love the white pizza, with its large dollops of ricotta cheese on top. And I love the fried Oreos — I mean, how could«fried Oreos» be anything but amazing. And I love the fact that you can buy pizza by the slice for a little more than $ 3. That’s cheap enough for the few bucks left over after tipping at the bars. So to all the haters, I say give Spinelli’s another chance, and look at it through fresh, open-minded eyes. If you’re hoping for artisan pizza, go and try Wick’s or Impellizeri’s. If you want a pizza experience — albeit one outside the realm of normal dining — go to Spinelli’s.
