So I have attempted to order from here for two weeks in a row on a Friday now. Last Friday I attempted to call for over an hour. Busy tone or rang and rang. So today, again on a Friday, I placed an order online with Unilocal at 10:30 am. Totaled about $ 60 for my office here. I thought, that since they are obviously busy on Fridays, I would get an order in early and instead of requesting delivery, I would pick it up myself. It said it would be ready for pick up around 11:45, seems like a long time, but no big deal. I finally get a call from Unilocal’s online ordering service at 11:30, saying that she finally got a hold of the«owner» at the deli after several phone calls, and that he was not happy that she had been calling him over and over attempting to get a hold of him. She said she was trying to confirm the order. He snapped back at her saying they were closed. She apologized profusely on his behalf. If you advertise your hours on here and provide online ordering, don’t close, or simply not open during normal business hours. Besides, in my eyes, wouldn’t Fridays for lunch be a prime opportunity for business? I could not see myself ever trying to return for another chance, with so many other options in the downtown area. I simply got online after I got the phone call and ordered from the Manhatton Grill, spent literally half the money and picked it up in half the time.

Ugh, I want to give it five stars because the food is great but it’s so overpriced I just can’t. All the grilled cheeses are great and they really put care into their food so if you don’t mind a pricey sandwich — go for it!

Excellent food and service. Toonerville sandwich and potato salad were delicious! Was served right away and came out piping hot.

For an OK sandwich, 20 minutes of wait time is a bit much to cut some meat, toast some bread and slap it all together. Also, if you’re going to offer wifi, advise your staff not to act like it is an imposition when asked for the password. I asked for password, and was told«Uh, it’ll take a while for me to get it for you.» She never got it for me.

So, I love their food, haven’t had a bad meal there… However, I can’t give more than 3 stars because I never know when they are open. The hours do not seem to be regular, which stinks when you’re crazy a good ruben.

I had that«Dan» sandwich. It’s a tasty chunky chicken salad sandwich that is full of flavor and overflowing with chicken and tomato slices on top of Texas toast. The German potato salad was not to my tastes, but I could tell it was made with loving care and I’m sure there are many fans out there, just a personal preference.

Back in the day, I was an Ermin’s(which was located at this location) fan. When it closed, I was upset. However, what opened was quite a pleasant surprise: Toonerville Deli!!! I try to pack my lunch for work frequently, but if I’m going out for lunch, this is my TOPSPOT. Want a Reuben? This is you place. There are over half a dozen types of Reubens with flavors meshing so well. Miss Ermin’s tomato basil soup? Toonerville’s gotcha. Pizza? Breakfast, including bagels made in house? Delicious deserts? Ummm… You really can’t go wrong, and sandwiches are large, so you may go home with leftovers! My regular is the BLTB — BLT with benedictine! Their benedictine has a little kick, and I love it. Unfortunately, BLTA(avocado) is the only one on the menu now, but they still hook me up with the BLTB.(Owners – please don’t stop letting me order it now that I mentioned it in my review. ;)) It’s so good, but everything here is. There’s plenty of(free) parking on the street everytime I go, so it’s pretty easy to visit. You can call ahead for carryout(or even have it delivered through Arrow Food Couriers… I THINK??). A hidden gem in Old Louisville – all of Louisville, really!

OK, they’re officially awesome. I don’t know of another lunch establishment that’s doing what they are with sandwiches. I just ordered the«Scotty Doesn’t Know» which is Roast Beef & Bacon with Habanero Jack & Gouda, chipotle-bacon mayo on Marbled Rye. You have to try this place!(I know, I keep forgetting to take pictures…)

What a great surprise to find this place in Old Louisville. After living in Dallas for 10 years and craving a real, deli sandwich experience I am glad to say we found it here. The sandwiches were filled with meat and deliciousness.

This place was surprisingly good! I had the Scotty Doesn’t Know with potato salad and it was outstanding. The price was decent considering how big the sandwich actually is. I will definitely be going back to try the other sandwiches that sound out of this world.

I just tried this place for lunch. I don’t even like sandwiches that much by I got the Reuben and German potato salad and it was amazingly good! Absolutely recommend

My favorite neighborhood sandwich spot in Old Louisville! Great breakfast sandwiches — the Do Ray Me w/onions is the way to go. They’ve also got brunch on the weekends. Also had my first Reuben there and it was incredible. The potato salad is pretty yummy too! Highly recommend Toonerville!

Yep, my relationship with Toonerville is officially over. My last Dan Sandwich was gross and took forever to be delivered. My chicken salad was dry and not nearly as flavorful as usual and the {stale} bread was put in the toaster, which made it hard, instead of being toasted as it usually is(and as I requested that it be), with butter, on the grill. I hate when local spots go bad. Relationship over.. .looking for a rebound spot.

I have to say, I was skeptical when Ermin’s was bought out and meant to be a deli. But I was pleasantly surprised. Place is clean, orderly and the staff are adequate. Not friendly but certainly not rude or inattentive. Sandwiches are pricey(which is why I give four stars) but everything I’ve had here has been delicious, and filling. Their pasta salad is unusual, but not bad. Just different. I’d opt for the coleslaw as a side though. They even kept the famous tomato basil soup from Ermin’s(café that was in the same building) same recipe and all!

Great little deli, glad to have some local food right down the road from my new place. Little pricey but kind of makes up for the amount of meat you get on the sandwich. Wouldn’t have minded if it came with a drink but still very good and will definitely come back! Rad staff too

Was hungry. Saw Toonerville. Hadn’t visited yet. Walked in. Very clean. Pretty busy. Ordered the Toonerville. It’s a reuben. I’m not crazy about reubens. Glad I got it. Was amazing. Will get it again. Bag of chips hard to open. I became angry. Nearly wrecked the car. Yelled a serenity now. Calmed down. Finally got them open. Delicious. Will get again. Like this place. Will return. No 5 stars for hard to open chips.

Overpriced sandwiches with few in house ingredients. The meat is being sliced off a loaf of meet from God knows where. The sandwich was okay but given the price tag it was a complete rip off. A failed attempt at building an artisan version of a subway at best. I had the pastrami sandwich which was a fair portion. Just putting the sandwich together took 15 minutes with nobody else in the restaurant. A Old Louisville does not need more pizza or sandwiches… The good Nice selection of unique sodas in the bottle Sandwich was okay but not great and definitely not great for 13 bucks plus tip. The bad Basically everything else The staff is rude and the place is kinda dirty even after a fresh remodel. Somehow this sucks worse than ermins which seems like a tall order No liquor license Extremely overpriced It appears a lot of the cold cuts are sliced off of a log if I wanted thst I would go to Kroger Service is slow Also the pizza kitchen sucks as well. Why bother with this when Donoso is cheaper and higher quality.

We walked up the street to check out this new spot in the neighborhood for breakfast this morning. They have a full deli menu as well as some breakfast sandwiches too. The breakfast sandwiches come on either texas toast or a bagel. I decided on an egg and gouda cheese on texas toast. Yum! The bread was nicely buttered and the egg was freshly made. The gouda cheese was so delicious, I only wish there was more on it. :) I am such a cheese head! Toonerville Deli is also serving pizza in the evenings now. Around 5pm they close the deli and re-open for pizza! The menu looks good and they also have salads and appetizers including pretzels and beer cheese and garlic bread. The guy working the front counter was super nice and we even enjoyed some conversation with him while we were eating our sandwiches. Glad to have this spot right around the corner!

This new deli in Old Louisville(previous Ermin’s space) knows sandwiches! After four visits I am convinced it will be a hit with locals and beyond. I’ve tried 2 breakfast sandwiches on bagels and both were delicious and filling. The Reuben I tried was the best of my life. I’m picky about chicken salad and this place knocked it out of the park. I even took a picture it was so good which I will post. The breads are buttered, thick, and toasty. They pile the sandwiches full of meat, cheese, bacon, and any toppings you request. They serve great sides too: pasta salads, coleslaw, soups, chips, etc. There are new menu items, options, and décor upgrades every visit. They serve tea, glass-bottled soda, fountain soda, and coffee. I’ve tried sandwiches in NYC/Boston delis and this place is the best I’ve enjoyed. Welcome to Old Louisville Toonerville Deli!
