This is still my favorite Greek place in town! Even though I have moved downtown I still find my way out to the north highlands for this unbeatable Gyro and Red Pepper Hummus. This place makes my taste buds go Opa!

My favorite place to get gyros and fries in all of Louisville. Authentic or not, the food tastes good and never fail to impress my unadventurous friends. I took 4 very picky eaters here(think meat and potato type) and they all loved it. The gyros are huge, you have the option to pick various meats and topings. The bread itself is unique, thick, soft and reminisce of airy European bread, this sets it apart and above other gyros in town. I enjoy the gyros here more because of that. There are other traditional Mediterranean fares to choose from, such as kabobs, falafel, and various salads. Hummus platter is a must for sharing and tribal fries a necessity to truly enjoy this restaurant!

I’m a HUGE fan of this place! Not only do they have 8 $ bottles of wine after 8pm, but their pita bread is incredibly authentic and fresh! Tastes just like the ones my friend from Palestine makes! The gyros were huge and delicious. My wife and I also split the tribal fries and a Greek salad. It was all truly delicious. To top it off, they have Coke in a glass bottle! Fantabulous! Oh, and the wait staff was super friendly and attentive; as well as the seating was very comfortable and looked great.

Had the classic gyro and tribal fries. Appetizer of falafel. The gyros are HUGE! They are so big, its almost not enjoyable to eat. My wife just used a knife and fork. The gyros are as good as gyros usually are, but the flatbread is great! The gyro is around $ 9 with feta added but, I would rather have a gyro about half that size for $ 4.50. I ate half and saved the other half for lunch next day. It heated up well. The tribal fried were very good with melted cheese, grilled onions and a sauce very much like In N Out Burger sandwich spread. They were a copy of In n Out animal style fries. My falafel balls were raw in the middle. They were very brown on the outside. I sent them back but the new order was the same. Their oil was too hot. I took them home and cut them in half and put them under the broiler and they were fine.

The hummus was pretty good but not the best I’ve had. The falafel sandwich was yummy. The bread was not pita but fluffy and surprisingly good.

We have several great Med restaurants in town. I have favorites at each, but when I want the best Falafel, it’s straight to Zaytun! I find it hard to order anything else but the vegetarian trio(hummus, baba ganoush, falafel). I also like the atmosphere and friendly service.

Zaytun is a rare gem in Louisville. Best Baba Ganoush in town! I have been here twice and both times was very pleased with my food. Of particular yumminess are the Traveler’s Fries, the gyro and the vegetarian combo plate. The service is not standard, but there is a little room here for improvement. I highly recommend Zaytun and will be returning frequently.

I’m pretty indifferent to gyros, but they had a deal on one of those Groupon equivalent sites, and the boyfriend likes gyros. I was very happy with the ambiance, the prices, and the food was pretty good! We ordered the tribal fries as an appetizer to get the full amount of the deal, and oh. my. god! I wasn’t counting calories that week, thank god! They were delicious and I ate more than I should’ve. For dinner I ordered some sort of chicken caesar wrap. To my surprise, the wrap itself is the same breading they use on the gyros. It wasn’t bad but the tribal fries won my heart. I don’t know if I’d go back here on my own accord, but if someone wanted to go back, I would. It has nothing to do with the service but more of my indifference to gyros.

I ordered carry out for lunch today. I had a $ 20 Seize the Deal to use so I ordered the Medi-Fish Gyro and also ordered Zaytun’s Dream Dish to sample the hummus, Kashk E Bademjan and falafel. Everything was fresh and very tasty. The best part is it will last me most of the week because it was so much food. The service was very quick and friendly.

Good, fresh, cost effective. I came here on a Friday night for a quick bite, and I was pleasantly surprised. The Gyros are a great deal and they pile them high. I got rice as a side, but honestly, after eating the Gyro, the rice wasn’t needed. Important note, for a Friday night, my wife and I walked in and were immediately seated at about 7:30. That is a win. My one regret: not ordering the tribal fries. The table next to us ordered them; I immediately recognized my error, they looked awesome.

FANTASTIC. Came here Friday night with my husband and four other friends and we were all very impressed by the food. My husband and I split the Egyptian hummus(supposed to be lower in fat and high in protein) and it was delicious. I’m not a falafel fan but one friend ordered that for his appetizer. I have never had falafel that tasty before. I think I will order it next time I go(and yes, there will be a next time for sure). All of us ordered gyros and the great thing was that you could specify your toppings. I had the classic gyro with beef and lamb, lettuce, cucumber, and onions. It was very filling, and I had to knife and fork it because it was so big. Between that and the hummus we split, I was stuffed. The prices were great. For the hummus appetizer, two gyros, and a beer(2XIPA for $ 3!), our order came to a total of $ 27. The best part was that we had a Groupon. This place will become a regular for us.

Great food. There’s a heavy emphasis on vegetables on their gyro. So it’s kind of like eating a salad at first and then you get to the point where you can fold the rest of the vegetables in with the meat and chow down. The gyro meat was awesome! Service was quick and good.

I used to really like this place, but Zaytun seems to be hit-or-miss lately. On my last visit, service was extremely slow even though I was one of only 2 or 3 tables with people at them. Also, they seem to have hiked their prices after the recent renovations.

My new favorite place in Louisville! I can say that I love Mediterranean food just as much as I love sushi, so I’ve been to quite a few Mediterranean restaurants both here and in the Philippines. Zaytun has earned its place on the number 1 spot. We got the baba ghanouj for appetizer. It was different from the usual baba ghanouj that I know but it was still good. I would have preferred the regular baba ghanouj flavor with just regular pita(not fried like Zaytun’s) though. My husband got the Classic Gyro and I got the falafel. They were so huge and we were able to consume only half each. The falafel was delicious, they were like has browns– Mediterranean style! I was able to try the gyro too because we traded our half sandwiches for lunch the next day. It was yummy… tasted a lot better than the falafel actually. The fatties that we are tried the tribal fries too since I’ve read a lot of good things about it. What I can say is that anything topped with lots of cheese would be delicious, so I wasn’t exactly impressed. It was a wonderful experience all in all even if my mind was not blown by some of the dishes that we tried, which is why it gets 5 stars from me. Fast service, beautiful décor, and the gyros are FTW!

Update: They expanded the place I guess because they were doing so well. Now it feels like a nice restaurant and the food seems have taken a step up too. You can tell how much the Chef/owner cares about his product. The night we went in he actually waited on our table. He had good recommendations and made sure everything was to our liking. Gyro was even better than I remembered and they have a great wine special…$ 8 a bottle after 8pm every night. Not like the other places that triple or quadruple the price to half price night, no this is decent wine for $ 8. Only place to go for gyros in Louisville. Two words, Tribal fries. These are worth a stop anytime you are headed home from a night out on Bardstown road. The gyros are the best i have ever had and will only think of one place to go for a good gyro from now on. The hummus was ok, nothing special, definitely had better at a few places.

I can’t say anything about their food yet, but I am a big fan of their $ 8 bottles of wine after 8pm. A friend and I gladly partook is this deal last night. We sat and talked and drank for quite a while. The staff didn’t try to rush us either, which was really nice. I’ll be back to check out the food soon enough!

A small hole-in-the-wall. Delicious food. Thank you Unilocalers for helping me find this spot on a recent business trip to KY. I enjoyed the falafel sandwich. It was served open-faced with lots of veggies(which you can select when you order). The falafel was well cooked on the outside and, at first, I thought it was burnt. I was pleasantly surprised to find the inside steaming warm and not a bit overcooked. They were flavorful and I loved the tstkiki. It was just what I was looking for.

It’s been a little while, I know, just haven’t had the opportunity to review much lately. A dry spell, I suppose. It happens. My current dinner companions are of the pint-sized sort and they’ve been begging to try something different lately. It’s something I try to do with them occasionally, expand their palates beyond the standard chicken nuggets, mac & cheese sort. That’s a work in progress but at least they’re not begging to go to McD’s every time we walk out the door. Driving along Bardstown Rd, I’d heard of Zaytun’s. It had been recommended a time or two as the best Mediterranean food in town. I can’t say as I would be the perfect judge of that. I haven’t been to all the Mediterranean/Greek restaurants in town. And there are a few if I recall correctly. But I’ve had a gyro a time or two before, so I can at least judge on that. Zaytun’s atmosphere is comfortably casual, not large, even intimate. Decorated sparsely with a Mediterranean flair, cultural music playing lightly in the background, it’s the type of restaurant that I could find myself enjoying immensely. It suits me. After seating ourselves as instructed, the waitress was prompt at asking for our drink order. The boys ordered a couple orange Fantas, I ordered a water. Now, the wonderful thing about ordering a soda here is it’s the original glass bottle type, sweetened with real cane sugar, the kind I used to drink as a kid. Granted, you can find these in most ethnic groceries and Trader Joe’s too but I appreciate a restaurant trying to keep it real, even if it is sodas bottled in Mexico for a Greek place. Albeit, you pay for it at $ 2.50 a piece with no refills. The boys ordered a Hero Gyro to split and I ordered the Chicken Gyro plus some Tribal Fries for an appetizer. The fries were brought out promptly, nicely crisped fries loaded with 4-cheeses, cajun seasoning, sauteed onions and their specialty tribal dressing, which was maybe a yogurt or mayonnaise-based dressing loaded with dill and other seasonings. I could’ve had the dressing on the side(specifically for the kids) but when you took a bite with all these flavors together, it’s cheesy carb lover heaven. Even able to get my youngest to give it a shot. That was this day’s accomplishment. The gyros arrived while we were about half way into the fries, which was about right. The boys’ gyro was overloaded with meat and cheese as ordered, the meat sliced thin off the spit, with a flavor reminiscent to italian sausage. My chicken gyro loaded with fresh veggies had bite-sized pieces of saffron-spiced chicken(along with a few other spices). Both sandwiches came with tzatziki sauce on the side, which was a nice addition that added a cool, creamy, cucumbery component to the salty meat and cheese. All in all, everything was pretty tasty and more than satisfying. And that’s where it ended, too full to eat more, and unlikely to get dessert as the boys were already at sugar-overload from the drinks. Unfortunate, as I was really eyeing the baklava. Guess I’ll have to leave that for some other time, right?
