Dollar Tree, located on the corner of Harlem and Alpine, caddycorner from the Schnucks, is great for picking up a lot of basics on the cheap, particularly if you’re planning a party(which we were on this visit). We picked up bags of rubber balloons(25/$ 1) straws(180/$ 1) banners, crêpe paper streamers, and even mylar balloons filled with helium for only $ 1 each. If you’re on a budget, the Dollar Store is a great party planning headquarters as they also carry gift bags, wrapping paper, tape, paper and plastic plates, cups, utensils, and napkins; we picked up a lot of party supplies on the cheap here! But that’s not all you can pick up here. The Dollar Store carries a wide variety of toiletries: toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, cleanser, bath & body products as well as over the counter medications. There is a predominance of off0-brands, but if you watch carefully, you can pick up well known brands at the same bargain basement prices such as White Rain, VO5, Dial, Zest, Palmolive Softsoap, and more. This is also a fabulous store for teachers to pick up cheap items for their classroom. I buy toys for the prize box, fancy colored sentence strips for name plates, markers, bulletin board decorations, office supplies. There’s a lot of stuff specifically targeted at elementary school teachers. You can REALLY clean up on cleaning supplies for the kitchen, bathroom, floors, counters, you name it. Anything you need to wash in your home or garage you can find the cleansers, sponges, or scrubbers here. Do you have pets? You can buy all kinds of pet supplies here from toys to food to collars. I picked up a bunch of books here to read on the plane flight home. There’s a small automotive section, a craft section, even some baby supplies. There’s a huge section full of seasonal holiday merchandise that rotates between Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, Easter, and many more holidays with decorations, party supplies, and much more. There is a large section full of food, snacks, and candy — many that are from name brand companies. If you’re feeling munchie, this is a great place to stock up. Dollar Tree accepts both credit and debit cards, though there is a small fee if you want to get cash back.

You can get a great value for your money here. Store is clean and the staff is friendly. Just keep your eye out on items that may not be a deal.
