This place is so flippin cute! One of only a couple drive-ins left in Texas, this place does it right! You tune into your movie using your radio and before the movie starts, they play 50s hits to give you that nostalgic feeling. They have the humps in the parking area for that best view of your movies. When you go for a movie, you get a double feature. There is a small playground for the kiddos next to the concession stand in the back. The treats offered are delicious! They offer a wide variety of goodies if you didn’t bring your own from home. We had a great time on our visit to Stars and Stripes Drive-In! Keep it up, guys!

Date place perfection. It is a tiny drive outside of town, but very worth it. My husband and I love bringing dinner to go here and maybe a few drink makings to enjoy while we sit in the back of my Element. You can take all the seats out so we can bring blankets and pillows galore and make a perfect palette for enjoying 2 movies in a row. They have 3 screens that show a pair of movies each. They have delicious fresh popcorn for sale and whole array of your typical snack bar items, drinks, and slushes. This is the cleanest and most organized drive in I have ever been to. Don’t be alarmed when you drive up and there is a long line of cars waiting to get in. They have multiple lines that cars can get in through and it moves quickly. This doesn’t mean I don’t recommend getting there about 20 – 30 minutes before the show. That way you can set up your car in the perfect spot and get one close enough for your desires. The screens are huge and you listen to the sound on your radio, so closeness isn’t that big of a deal to me. Open every Friday — Sunday plus select weekdays. Open nightly May through August and during school breaks. They keep all of there hours and movies up to date on their website, .

Gotta try the Chihuahua sandwich. Yum! Very clean facilities, good food and cheap movies. $ 14 for 2 movies. Also have a playground if you have kiddos.

Stars & Stripes is a fun place to go to a movie for a good price and you can eat whatever you want in your car. I only wish I had a convertible to enjoy it even more!

I loved this drive in theatre when I lived in LBK. In fact I still love it even though I don’t live there anymore. I certainly don’t miss the dust bowl but I do wish I could go back to Stars & Stripes Drive-In from time to time. It was the first and only Drive-in movie theatre I’ve ever been to. It was such a different and unique experience compared to the regular theatre and always brings back happy memories. I have a great time over there whenever I visit. I highly recommend getting there early to check out their little restaurant called 50’s café. Order the chiwawa sandwich, you won’t be disappointed. They also have those giant pickle there which looked yummy. The line can get long sometimes so be prepared!

I went here last year, February 2012 to see Ghostrider 2 and The Woman in Black. The food was delicious and I loved the drive-in. The last one I went to was when I was a very young child and my parents thought it would be a good idea for us to see Poltergeist 2, lol. Anyway, this place is wonderful, affordable and so much fun.

I would be all kinds of rich if I had a nickel for every time one of my parents or aunts and uncles regaled me about their teenage shenanigans at the drive-in movies, way back in the day. Their wistful recollections always made it sound like the best of times. So you can imagine the glee I kept on the down-low when I visited a friend in Lubbock to find she had gotten us tickets for The Dark Knight Rises as — get this — a drive-in theater! Surely this would be all kinds of fun. The Stars and Stripes Drive-In is fifties themed all around, although it’s a relatively new facility(which means nice, clean facilities, if you know what I mean). The place consists of three screens centered around a concession/restaurant/bathroom structure and a playground for all those kiddos. Each screen shows a double feature every night, after dark. And the prices are pretty darn cheap! About the same price as going to the old seedy looking places you find in the Dallas area. We got there a few hours early to get a good spot, and I’m glad we did. If you’re going to see a big new release like we were, I recommend getting there two hours or more in advance if you’re picky about where you sit. No worries though if boredom is your concern. We had no problem wiling away the last of the daylight by eating dinner at the 50s café and going about enjoying the atmosphere around us, people congregated on tailgates and lawn chair circles, throwing the the frisbee or playing catch with whoever brought their dog. The screens are big and in nice condition, and unless you park behind an RV in the back, you shouldn’t have much trouble having a good view of the screen. Rather than attaching an old time speaker box to your window, your sound comes through the radio for the movie — so if you’ve got some good bass systems parked around you, expect the ultimate in surround sound experiences. Aside from the kitschy thrill of being at a drive-in versus a regular theater, the movie experience is pretty good. The quality and size of the screen is good, and you can customize your own sound and seat. Small chatter between cars won’t interrupt your movie experience, either. Of course, there are a few drawbacks to seeing the next blockbuster this way. You’ll probably have a sad, sad time if you don’t remember to take a squigee to your windshield beforehand, and you might or might not get some douche in the front row who keeps turning his engine on for air and ends up splaying his headlights all over the screen. But of course such things are viable at any drive-in experience. The only facility-specific drawback that I recall is that the traffic easily piles up at the end of the movie, meaning a long wait when everyone is trying to get out the one narrow exit lane to the highway. Be prepared for that. And I guess if you’re big into your diet and want something besides fried food and candy, you might want to bring your own salad. Overall the Stars and Stripes is a great place for watching a movie! If I lived closer to Lubbock, I would definitely make it a habit to come here with my friends. Should you find yourself in the area, I would recommend stopping in for a flick or two and having some corn fritters or the famous Chihuahua sandwich while you’re there.

Love love love this place. My boyfriend and I like to come here on date night since its super cheap($ 6 per person for 2 movies!). You pay at the entrance, pick a spot in front of your screen, tune your radio to whatever station your screen is set to, get comfy and youre ready to go! Overall its a fun, cheap place in Lubbock to go when you wanna get out of the house but still be able snuggle up and watch a move!

Something different: It’s location to the North side of town and its proximity to the North Loop is very beneficial for Texas Tech students and anyone that is familiar with Lubbock. This is the theater that I would take a date or the family for a fun time. It has three large screens that show 2 shows each. The need for a speaker hook up is no longer needed as the radio system is what they now use to link the sound system to your car. The staff has always been helpful and friendly every time I have visited. This is the theater to go to, to see new films and save a little green. Prices are more reasonable and you won’t feel like you lost an arm and a leg when you leave. The concession building is conveniently located. The restrooms are over crowded at times but a well timed break can take care of that. Over all this is a great experience for anyone to have and I would encourage anyone that wants to try something new/old school to visit.

I’m in Lubbock for a while from Austin… While out here some friends invited me to tag along on a trip to the drive in. We wanted the whole experience so we ate at the diner on site. If you aren’t In the mood for fried skip the diner as fried food and some movie candy and drinks are the only options. As far as the movie is concerned you drive into a lot and adjust your radio to one of 3 stations depending on what movie you watch. I recommend taking a big vehicle for more room. I saw chairs, pillows, and pompozon chairs. Your comfort level during the movie is what you make it. At 6 bucks per person for a double feature it’s quite a deal. My rating is for the theater not the diner FYI.
