One of the most recognized lights around. Right outside the city of Ludington in Ludington State park. Easy walk out to view.

Less than 2 miles from the main entrance to Ludington State Park and most of the campgrounds lies Big Sable Point Lighthouse. It can be reached via trail through open and wooded sand dunes or along the sandy shores of Lake Michigan. It costs just $ 2($ 1) for kids to enter the lighthouse, and I found this to be the best $ 2 I’ve ever spent. Before climbing the 130 steps to the top of the 112 foot high lighthouse you can view a video on the history of the lighthouse and its restoration. Our family ranging in age from 3.5 to 60s all made it up to the top with no problems and we were rewarded with remarkable views of the gorgeous shoreline and state park. If you are in the area and have a couple hours it is well worth it.

We hiked out to this lighthouse in Ludington State Park on our vacation, and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The trail out is an unpaved road(no car access though) which makes for an easy walk. For a donation of $ 2 per adult, you can climb to the top and enjoy spectacular views of the lake and the dunes. The keepers are volunteers who live at the light for 2 weeks. They were very informative and welcoming. There is also a small shop with some great souvenirs. If you are in the park, make sure to walk out to the lighthouse.
