My husband and I went out for a very enjoyable meal. We had steak and shrimp Habachi cooked to perfection. I ordered the best hot and sour soup I have ever tasted. The restaurant was especially crowded at the multiple habachi grills and ours was the last one seated. We had to wait for an available chef to cook our food. The wait staff explained the wait and offered the table 2 free sushi dishes while we waited for our chef. The chef was very entertaining and paid extra attention to the child at the table with us to make sure she enjoyed her food too. All in all I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends and family or any one wanting an enjoyable evening out.

One of the more upscale restaurants in Lufkin. We have eaten in both the hibachi area, and the sushi areas of the restaurant. The NY steak hibachi served with soup, salad, vegetables, rice, & noodles was very good. Their menu has a wide selection to choose from. Very enjoyable for a night out!

Awesome restaurant. Best hibachi experience by far in Lufkin. Servings aren’t shorted. Sushi is top notch.

This is an update on my previous review. Tsubaki has quickly become one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Lufkin, TX. I have now been here multiple times. I always sit at the sushi bar. Since my last review, I can clearly taste a difference in the quality of ingredients in their sushi. It tastes like they are using fresher ingredients. Wilson is a very good sushi chef. Sometimes he will give you a small sample of something on the house. He gave me a sample of the seaweed salad on my 2nd trip. It worked. I’ve now ordered it my subsequent two times here. It is delicious. Tonight, I ordered the Hawaiian roll. I ordered it w/soy paper instead of seaweed. Wilson asked if I have ever had fresh wasabi. He explained that the normal little dab of wasabi that comes on sushi platters is a powdered wasabi. He gave me a small sample of fresh wasabi to eat with my roll. Uh-oh. He did it again. I’m ruined. I’ll never be able to eat the«old» wasabi again. It was delicious. From the first bite, by taste buds began doing the Texas Two-Step. The Hawaiian roll along with the fresh wasabi has officially become one of my favorite rolls. Not just here. I mean anywhere. If you’re eating at Tsubaki, you need to try these three items: seaweed salad, Hawaiian roll and fresh wasabi. If you found this review useful, funny, or cool, please let me know below. Thanks for reading.

Upscale clean atmosphere with a large selection of sushi, sashimi and hamachi to choose from. Fresh and plenty on the plates. Nice private booths or large bar seating. Highly recommend!!!

Went here for hibachi(where they cook in front of you). The food was great and the cook we got put on a performance. So fun! I order the shrimp and filet mignon combo. Great choice! The steak was so buttery.

Sushi maker was great and his food presentation fabulous. Sushi was good, but not outstanding. Main complaint was the miso soup, it had a odd sweet flavor not expected. Staff was friendly.

We LOVE this place! My husband and I cam here for a date night and fell in love with ebery piece of food that hit our stummochs. The sushi is fresh and so very good as well as the soup and warm food! The atmosphere is perfect with the geisha girls as waitresses, the habachi grill, and the décor. Great place to east!

I travel in my line of work and come to the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area twice a year and was happy to see the shady Chinese buffet gone replaced by a Japanese hibachi/sushi bar. Beautiful décor and friendly service but sadly the quality of hibachi in the dining area was lacking. I wasn’t a fan of the square plate where every item was quarantined into its own section. It felt as though I was eating from a TV dinner and prevented me from mixing items together. I ordered the steak and shrimp and can honestly say the steak was off. As, on the verge of being rotten, obvious from its sour almost gamey taste. I had more than enough food(if not due ordering hibachi AND sushi) and the shrimp was great but that steak was horrendous of which I could only eat three bites. I didn’t want to cause any issues so I didn’t say anything(which I regret) even though the steak nearly ruined my appetite. Where I live in the N. GA/S. TN area there is no shortage of Japanese restaurants with at least 15 of these types of restaurants in the area and I have been eating at Japanese restaurants for 30 years with eating at nearly 100 different establishments so I have seen every trick imaginable at a hibachi grill and have learned what to level of quality to expect. I might be willing to give it another try but I’m not sure when I think about that steak.

I’m more of an American burger guy but this was some of the best food I’ve had. Very good taste and we got several different things. I will go back for sure.

When I first arrived we were instantly greeted by a very friendly hostess. We were seated at a Hibachi table and our drink orders were taken. The restaurant was very clean. Our server brought us our drinks very quickly and took our orders. Our hibachi cook arrived and he was fantastic. Great personality and very good at what he does. I ordered the chicken and steak. The food was amazing and more than I could eat. Seasoning was right on and cooked to perfection. Overall this was a great experience and if I come back through this town I will definitely be going back.

What a wonderful surprise! Tonight was our second visit to the restaurant and the sushi was so good both visits it prompted a review :) We had the sushi happy hour combo both visits and tried the… spider roll I believe… and the volcano roll tonight. Both were divine, very fresh and such good flavor. We have only tried the sushi and some appetizers but everything was delicious. The atmosphere and friendly service are 5 stars as well. This could be our new sushi stop in Lufkin.

I recently attended a business luncheon here and was pleasantly surprised. We sat at a Hibachi table and ordered a lunch meal prepared on it. I had shrimp and steak, along with the fried rice and vegetables. We also had giyoza and shrimp tempura as appetizers. Everything was well seasoned and delicious! I especially enjoyed the variety of seasonings and sauces on the various items prepared on the Hibachi; everything had a different flavor to it. My only suggestion is to cook the vegetables less time — they were too mushy. The décor here is really pretty and service was excellent. I definitely plan to return.

Came here to try the new Japanese place in town, and it turns out I liked it. This restaurant doesn’t have their liquor license yet, but they have applied. The space is divided into two sides: hibachi grills in one area and a more standard sushi/sushi bar setup on the other. We sat in the sushi side, but from our booth we could see the chefs putting on their show. I would like to come back and experience that part, too. Anyway, the menu was extensive, we tried the hot and sour soup(very good) as well as the pink panther roll(again, very good). My chicken teriyaki dinner had ample portions, and for the price was a very good value. Service was a bit wonky, but I think that they’re still working out a few kinks. Overall, a very positive experience and I will be coming back.
