Love this place! It’s a hole in the wall that’s definitely worth checking out. It wasn’t very busy when I went this time. Even when it’s packed the wait for your order doesn’t take long. The prices are reasonable and the food is always FRESH! I recommend the chicken tenders and the onion brick. It’s very clean for the grungy bar look it has, so are the restrooms. Lots of space for big parties and small sections for dates and small families. The waitress I had both times I’ve gone were super friendly and gave us recommendations for food and locals places to check out non food wise. Definitely a great place to stop at when you want a good, hot meal on the road or for a brunch.

Everything I’ve had at Blake’s so far has been high quality. The onion rings, chicken fried steak and pickle chips are all fresh hand breaded and fantastic. We also had the large cut ribeye and it was a great steak, much better cut of meat than you can get at the grocery. I would definitely go back for the steak, onion rings and pickle chips.

This is a gem of a diner in a boulder field. Wouldn’t have thought to stop here except for the Unilocal reviews. They were spot on. Service was extremely good. My GF and I were there on a Sunday night about 8PM. The place was packed. Still we were promptly waited on and treated like we were the only diners in the restaurant. Because of the positive Unilocal reviews, we ordered fried zucchini for an appetizer. It is a must for anyone stopping here. I had a Blackjack cheeseburger. It was fresh, meat was cooked perfectly, and bun seemed like it was local bakery made. Meet was coated with black pepper before it was grilled. Was awesome. It is about 2 doors down from the famous City Market BBQ place. Had City Market been open, we would have eaten there, but we are glad it was closed because it gave us a second best place to eat in Lulling.

We ate here Friday night on the way up to Fredericksburg for the weekend. I had the chicken fried steak, green beans, and potato. It was huge but incredible! They serve bread as well so we didn’t get an appetizer. The boyfriend got the Caesar salad, grilled catfish, and mashed potatoes. I actually look forward to coming back on our way up again.

This place was great. The sirloin, medium, was seasoned great and juicy. I’m super picky because husband makes perfectly seasoned steaks. My kids and husband enjoyed their meal too. Husband had chopped steak. The ONLY downside for us was that they have seating for smokers and non smoking. My kids noticed, not us. Great restaurant overall.

We ordered the fried zucchini and it was amazing! I got the patty melt. The burger was cooked perfectly and I am picky about that, but it lacked any distinguishing flavor. I wouldn’t get it again just for that, but because it was still good I would try something else from the menu. My husband got the Hawaiian burger and he thought it was good and that it was flavorful. My son got a corn dog and the waitress had the foresight to ask us if he could have the ice cream before bringing it out. The portions were ample but not absurd and the price was cheaper than Whataburger and the food, obviously better. The bread was wonderful, but I didn’t like that instead of real butter they offered«butter spread». The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. If I’m ever in the area again we will be stopping in to eat here again! I have no problem recommending this restaurant to anyone else.

Loved the enormous(and it was the small) chicken-fried steak! Quaint older building with an old town feel. Happened to be watermelon festival. Loved the local flavor with posters on store-fronts for this year’s Watermelon Thumping Queen.

Don’t let the«café» in the name fool you. We came here and got a huge lunch! I got the pot roast, which was the special of the day, and it was delicious with zucchini and mashed potatoes. They give you free warm bread and butter too. Excellent service. Four stars only because my boyfriend said his burger tasted like cigarettes so don’t get that…

Stopped for lunch on our way to Houston. Waiter was really friendly. We got chicken fried steak, chopped steak & grilled chicken. Best chicken fried steak & fried okra & fried zucchini we’ve had… Grilled chicken & chopped steak good also. Definitely stop there, u won’t be disappointed. In a neat old building built in 1883. Enjoy!

I was trying to go eat bbq but City Market ended up being closed, so I found Blake’s Café right nearby. Great food, excellent service! I quickly forgot that I had even wanted bbq to begin with!

Stopping here on the way back to Houston from San Antonio. Tried out quite a few items on the menu. The rib eye and Hawaiian burger are outstanding. The steak are juicy and smelled awesomely smoked. The Hawaiian burger is differently delicious with sheared pineapple and teriyaki sauce. The café is old, nothing fancy. However, staff is friendly.

Blake’s Café was a nice little find in the small town of Luling. Nestled in a strip of older, historic restaurants right next to the famous City Market, it doesn’t look like much from the outside. The restaurant is much larger on the inside than what it appears from outside. There are both tables and booths, and there are large screen TVs for watching sports. The quality of the food was better than I expected. We had a shrimp plate and the blackened catfish. The fish was incredible. The shrimp were pretty good too, but fried foods taste pretty similar everywhere. Blake’s is definitely a hole in the wall, a good local establishment, where dressing up is not a necessity. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed and the servers are fairly attentive. Stop by for a very casual meal with a home-cooked feel.

Sometimes when you’re on epic road trips you find treasures and sometime you hit dirt. This place was not a treasure, but I’m not sure I’d call it dirt. It’s in a sleepy little town in Texas that we happened to stop at during our trip to grab a bite for lunch. The interior consistently reminded me that we were in a little old town, but the staff was peppy and prompt, some even with funky hair styles. The menu was exactly as I predicted, except they did have fried frog legs, which our daughter promptly ordered of course. I got the grilled catfish with black eyed peas, hushpuppies, and salad. My man got a smothered steak patty with a gratin potatoes and fried zucchini. My salad was pretty pathetic and between the three of us we didn’t even finish it. The food was pretty bland too– not much flavor to talk about. I think the potatoes, mashed and a gratin were both made in house but the green beans were canned. The fried zucchini was light and enjoyable. Can’t say as an out of towner I’d stop in here again if I was driving by. However the locals seemed to enjoy it.

Came here for a Friday dinner by myself. The menu looked good and the reviews were great. I asked for a seat near the TV, since the news was on. The special was Blackened Ribeye with 2 sides. Loaded baked potato and salad were my choices. My tea came out quickly, followed by my salad and a small loaf of bread. Great surprise! The rest arrived after I finished the salad, and my waitress kept my tea full. About half way through, I realized that someone behind me was smoking. I’ve been spoiled in the big city and never think about smoking sections. It would not matter here, since it is one big, open room. The food was very good, but the smoking was a downer.
