Really disappointed. Ordered combination shrimp and catfish dinner. Catfish was so small and thin it was like a small piece of fried paper. Asked waitress for a spoon which we never got. 2 small pieces of fish, 3 small shrimp, a baked potato and 2 hush puppies for 10.00 dollars is rediculous! Will go to Pappadeauxs next time!

Fishy tasting fish… Waaaaayyyy overpriced for the quality of the food. Best thing they offer is, without question, the salad bar. This place has really gone downhill in the last few years. Sad… Once upon a time they had the best fish around.

The strips of catfish seem to get thinner and prices are higher on each visit. One consistent thing is the peanuts always taste stale and inedible. In years past they were fresh roasted. The Catfish Cabin in Jasper(unrelated) is far superior to this one in Lumberton and cheaper, too. Well worth the drive to Jasper.

We eat here on a regular basis and have probably eaten here 75+ times in my life and can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience with food or service. Usually, no matter what time of day that I’ve gone, at least one of the owners is present and the restaurant runs like a well oiled machine. Some have complained in their reviews about the LSU décor, and while I can say I am NOT an LSU fan, why does this matter? I have always assumed that the owner is a graduate of LSU and is proud of their school… The salad bar is always fresh and clean and you get a free trip to the salad bar with the purchase of an entrée, pretty good deal of you ask me. Lumberton does not have many options when it comes to «sit down» restaurants, but this is one of our favorites because of the consistency we have always experienced here. Keep up the great work! See you soon.

First thoughts on the outside of this establishment is that it has that wonderful down home country feel. Then, you walk inside and are transported into a atmosphere of a college frat house. This is TEXAS folks. I’m part Cajun, but I’m a Texan and could care less about the LSU Tigers. ESPECIALLY while I’m eating! On the subject of the food. Self serve salad bar is okay, but could use a bigger selection of dressings. In fact, the whole salad bar could be bigger to compensate for the small portions of the main meal. Yes, small portions of a Baked Catfish Dinner. The three piece is too small. I know for a fact that there are big catfish, it’s not a rumor. On a positive note, the seasoning on the baked catfish was outstanding. Hush Puppies were large and tasty. Can’t say anything either way on the Baked Potato. Our waitress could have been more attentive. Seriously, she brought out our food and took a vacation, only to return when our meals were done! Our teas ran out well before half our meal was eaten. I tip 20% cash when it’s above par service. This was not above par service. Take notes Lumberton, TX Waitstaff!!!

Don’t get me wrong, the food at this place is not bad. I have been here many times and have enjoyed the taste of everything I have tasted. Here is my problem with Catfish Cabin. The atmosphere and care of the customer are below expectations. Clearly the owner is concerned more about his profit than customer service. Anything and everything you order has to come as is or there is a charge. You want a platter but would like to substitute oysters for more fries, there is a charge. They will not allow an adult who had gastric bypass surgery order a kids meal at kids price. You can have it but at an adult price. The food is good as already stated but way overpriced. A family of 4 with two small kids cannot get out of this place without a $ 40+ check. The owner and his wife are very stand offish towards customers and in all the times I have been here never speak to customers until it’s time to collect money. I understand this is someone’s lively hood but customer service usually go a long way. Finally the Terrible LSU decorations need to go. You should decorate a private office with this junk and not a place of business. If you choose to use college decorations than at least do a Texas team or the local university. Not LSU?! Like I said the food is okay but I only attend this facility when invited by someone. The money gouging is not worth the quality for frozen food.

Lumbertonites(is that correct?) always complain about not having many dining options, but I think the«mom and pop» ones that are in Lumberton, are quite fabulous, i.e. Catfish Cabin. You can describe the décor as country crossed with LSU memorabilia. When you walk in, you will notice the peanut casings all over the floor! This is a great place for kids, since they can dump all those peanut shells on the floor and no one will complain. All the fried items are delicious — the cornmeal crust is crunchy and seasoned well. Each entrée comes with a trip to the salad bar. Same ol’ fixings, except for those fabulous«pickled green tomatoes.» They even have jars of this stuff if you want to take some home with you. During the winter months, the restaurant offers a tasty Seafood Gumbo. It’s not the best seafood gumbo I’ve come across, but the roux is a good color and the seafood flavor does come through. Great place to go if you want a casual seafood meal — it’s closer than going to Pappadeaux’s in Beaumont. :-)

Best fried(and grilled) catfish in the area! Especially love winter through Easter when they serve hot seafood gumbo.
