Lumberton/I-95 KOA Campground

My wife and I stayed the night last year on our way to Savannah. Although we didn’t use any of the facilities, the spot we parked was clean, level, and convenient to pull into and out. It wasn’t a KOA when we stayed there but we plan to overnight there again this year.

My husband and I stayed here on our way from Virginia to Tampa, Florida. The new owners had only been open for a very short time. The owners were working fast and furiously to bring the campground up to par! They were extremely friendly and helpful. We couldn’t have chosen any better accommodations! We will definitely return to this campground again! Thank you, owners for a wonderful stay!

When I was planning my trip from Florida to NY I wanted to stay at this new KOA but was a little gun-​shy due to some of the bad reviews I had read. It’s in a great spot just over the NC border only a few miles from south of the border. The more I read I realized that this park has been taken over by new owners and decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did. When I arrived I was warmly greeted and was apologized to in advance for all the construction activities going on. The previous owners had let some things go and the new owners were removing some of the run down features (old buildings, playground, etc…) to make way for new things. I chatted with them for a bit and they have prior KOA ownership experience so i’m sure it will look great when done. Owner escorted me to my site and got me hooked up. Didn’t use the bathroom or showers so can’t comment on that. Pool area was the perfect size. Its an easy drive from the highway but far enough back where I didn’t hear any road noise. I saw on the map there is a nature trail that leads down to a river. kinda wish I’d walked back there but maybe on our next trip down. Overall i’d say this place is up and coming and I would stay here again for sure.

There is not one thing that I can recommend about staying at this place. It should be condemned!
My family and I are stuck at a The Sleepy Bear’s RV Park, Lumberton, NC, only because we are too exhausted to leave and continue driving.
I am appalled at the condition of this health hazard. After driving ALL DAY from New Jersey, we were looking forward to staying at a place that advertises itself as a bright and cheery place, that had an IN-​GROUND POOL, ice cream Parlor, campfire circle, arcade games, basket ball, bagged ice, etc.
We arrived around 8pm, to find less than a handful of RVs here, and NO ACCESS TO ANY OF THE ITEMS advertised. There IS a decrepit swimming pool that resembled a pond with froth on it. It too, was LOCKED UP, while the sun was still out!!!
The play ground’s main attraction is two OLD RUSTED golf carts that are hiked up on cinder blocks. And, some sort of merry go round with several splintered scooters attached to rusted handle bars and wheels. I would NOT let a child anywhere near that playground without first making sure they had a Tetanus shot!
There is a sink in the bathhouse between the Men’s and Women’s sections, that has a plastic table cloth over it. When removed, it had RAT/​MOUSE crap in it, and trash.
Ants were all over the women’s room walls, and the men’s room toilet was unfit for a child to use!!!

There are NO unstaged pictures or reviews… THAT alone should have set off a flag. But, being new to this RV stuff, and seeing it was endorsed as a «Good Sam’s» facility, my husband thought it would be okay.
Also, while I was assessing the pool, two beautiful motor homes pulled in, drove around the park, and left! If I wasn’t so exhausted, we would have left as well! So, we’ll stay LOCKED IN our RV just long enough to recharge… then we’re OUT OF HERE.
