Mmh… Tell me guys: what happened? Did you lose half if the spirit and friendliness when you moved across the street? I went here 3 times: 5 years ago and last year when we moved to the NoVA area. Since my parents visited us we decided to take them to Shanondoah and finish it off with a stop for a sweet treat at this café. Just as we walked in the new location did not feel right. No concept, not cozy anymore… Then the waitress was nit really taking care of us. She dud not know which pies they had, she did not bring forks for the pie, she brought the check without asking us if we may have wanted some more coffee or whatever. Didn’t feel welcome at all which left me sad cause I loved it the first 3 times — right across the street. Hope we just caught a bad day

As a local I am very disappointed. We took visiting friends here for lunch, expecting a relaxing reunion. It took over an hour for our lunch to be delivered — the explanation was someone had turned off the panini grill… After finally receiving our food, which was«okay», certainly nothing special, our waitress delivered a check, stating that it wasn’t ours — she had given our check to another table! She further stated they had paid and departed, so «there was nothing she could do!» She assured us this bill was lower… ??? As we were with friends we had not seen in several years, my husband decided to pay rather than create a fuss. But this restaurant has lost locals who could have been weekly customers.

Great coffee, great service and gluten free options as well. This place is kid friendly and a family favorite. Their desserts are amazing too. We love to sit outside in the back.

Good food, great coffee and very friendly staff. The décor is also so cute. You will be happy you stopped by. The croissant sandwich was delicious. You can also see the women cooking in the back, it made me feel like I’m about to have a home cooked meal!

This café serves such a great cappuccino! Under a cloud of froth is a velvety brew perfect for the damp weather the city is having today. The servers are lovely and charming, the chocolate cookies look like bliss and I could’ve made the mistake of driving past this place we’re it not for noble fellow Unilocalers. So thanks! :)

My daughter recommends the bacon egg and cheese bagel. I noted that their bagels are not wimpy little bagels. They are full and tasty. We caught them on a very busy Saturday morning, but the staff were all very friendly and created a happy atmosphere. Any establishment that features German shepherd wins in my book.

Great lunch option very close to Luray Caverns! Highly recommend. Thoughtful décor — coffee shop /café with a southern flair and not-quite-kitschy toy décor. DH and I both had an amazing sandwich — fried egg on fresh carved turkey, cheddar tomato, spinach, bleu cheese sauce on pretzel roll. Gives you an idea of the higher-end flavor profile of most of their menu(also salads, soups, paninis). Kids menu has grilled cheese w/or w/o ham, hot dog, etc with veggie pasta salad or chips on the side. They make lots of muffins, pies and cakes but we were too happily full from lunch to consider them, sadly. Vast coffee menu and cold brew drip gadget on display, which was kinda fun.

What a tasty find! My husband and I were on the search for an enjoyable local place to eat. The inside was decorated with such an interesting rustic theme, it kept our conversation going. We explored the room while waiting for our food too. There were table games and a yummy beer selection. We ordered their lunch sandwiches and had coffee. We were very impressed. We ordered pie and scones to go. We are definitely coming back tomorrow and see how dinner will turn out.

Tourists visiting walked around town and decided to check this place out. You need to try the pies! We got an apple and chocolate pecan pie with a latte and cappuccino. Delish can’t wait to come back it’s so relaxing and cute here.

Yes this is as good as it gets in Luray and we love it. We are regulars. Anytime you come, breakfast, lunch, dinner on weekends… it is the best in town! Or if you just want some coffee and a scrumptious dessert treat… stop by. They are open 7 days a week. Don’t miss Gathering Grounds when visiting the Caverns. Only a few minutes down the road in historic downtown Luray.

This is one of the best cafes I’ve been in. Delicious food, drinks, baked goods, and excellent service. Has a great traditional«coffeehouse» vibe.

My husband and I planned on making deserts for our wedding but this realized the amount of work we needed to do to make this happen. Days before our wedding, we called Gathering Grounds who came highly recommended by our venue as having the best pies. They were able to accommodate our last minute request for a large pie order which was much appreciated! I am so glad that we used them to supply the dessert for our wedding. All of our guests raved about the pies and hardly any pieces were left by the end of the night. In addition to having the best pies, the café itself is a relaxed atmosphere and all the staff are very friendly. I also love their veggie wrap and tomato soup! I have brought friends and family here and all love the food! Even though we live 2 hours away, we are considering driving down to pick up pies to give out as gifts during the holidays!

Visiting the town of Luray, I was worried by the appearance of the rest of the town that it wouldn’t have a decent place to eat. Well, we found a gem! This little café offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner and they do it right. Their menu is not big which allows them the freedom to perfect their dishes. The staff here are young, professional, and love their jobs. They are very kind and greet all the guests as though they have known them for years. Neat clean and professionally dressed. The food is what really make the difference. Breakfast menu is small but what they lack in items they make up in flavor. Great pastries are also available. Breakfast would not be complete without coffee and they do not fail here, they serve regular coffee as well as lattes, espressos and whatever you can imagine. The lunch menu is a plethora of fantastic gourmet sandwiches that leave even the pickiest palates satisfied. Your on your own for dinner because I did not get a chance to check out that treat but I am sure it was in keeping with the rest of my day. Gathering grounds is a top notch winning café! Keep doing what you do!

Fantastic coffee shop/café! We are visiting Luray for the weekend. We first came to GG for breakfast and coffee. The food was good, the maple spice latte was amazing, the service was excellent, and the price was extremely reasonable. After a disappointing dinner elsewhere, we came back to GG for hot chocolate and pie. The experience was just a good as this morning(highly recommend the chocolate chess!). It was relaxing and enjoyable. We will be back for breakfast tomorrow, and will miss this place when we head back east! Great spot.

I’ll be honest. The nearly 5 stars was what drew us here in the first place. However, lackluster and forgetful service, as well as just okay food is why I’m giving it 3 stars. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, and basket of fries from their appetizer menu. When we ordered, I asked for mayo with my fries. It was delivered with ketchup. I asked the food runner — not our waiter for mayo, and after 10 minutes she was still(in line of sight) carrying on with the kitchen staff while sweeping up. I got up and walked over to her, and asked her where my mayo was. She had completely forgotten to even put the request in to the kitchen, as I stood there and watched the gentleman in the kitchen prepare a ramekin of mayo right then. Then i had to still flag her down again to get a refill on my beer. Our waiter was too busy it seems to check on us until all this went down. The fried green tomatoes were not bad for $ 5.95 though, but not good enough to finish either. After still being ignored and trying to find someone to bring our bill, I’ve downgraded from three to two stars. I really hope this was just a bad day for them. It sure made my previously wonderful day less than stellar.

Best vanilla chai latter of my life!!! Super cute little café with really unique sandwiches, smoothies, and coffee drinks. They also have great local beers on tap. Also have a few home made pies which looked to die for. I felt bad there were only 2 waitresses in the entire place so service was slow but not enough to take away from our experience here. I had a wrap with grilled chicken, tomatoes, cheddar, and honey mustard. My husband had the club sandwich; I tried his and the turkey was so delicious and tasted home made. Highly recommend coming here while in Luray

Went three times over a week long trip. One breakfast, one coffee run, and one lunch. Breakfast was slow, but understandable since they were having some sort of issue in the kitchen involving their panini press. The coffee was good, but their response to a broken to go cup was«yeah that happens sometimes» No apology or asking if we were ok or offering a fresh cup since done spilled. For done train we went back for a lunch and the waitress flat out ignored our two year old. Didn’t ask for his drink or his meal. After we ordered his meal she forgot to put it in so his food came out late. Then the bill didn’t match what we ordered, but the prices did so we got out of dodge. Cute place. Generally good staff. Ok food for an ok price.

Great reviews on Unilocal pointed us to this lovely and cozy patisserie in an area that generally suffers from lack of decent healthy food. The menu is limited somewhat but sufficient to satisfy a healthy appetite after a long day of hiking in the Shenandoah. We started with fried green tomatoes and basil-tomato soup — both delicious, fresh tasting and not greasy. For main course we had a grilled chicken and mashed potatoes and a turkey burger — both entrees delightfully presented and tasteful. The lemon scones with a surprisingly decently prepared Espresso Machiato completed a very satisfying dinner, for a very reasonable cost of less than $ 40 and a very friendly service.

My wife and I were in the area for a few days, and we ate here multiple times. They have gluten free options, which attracted us. However, we came back because of the delicious food and delightful service. The sandwiches from the lunch menu and our meal for breakfast were fantastic! Everything was made fresh and to order. The desserts were too good to resist, and I can’t tell you how good the pie was! I highly recommend Gathering Grounds for a meal, a pastry, or just a cup of coffee.

We loved this excursion from mozzarella sticks, stuffed mushrooms, and suspect crab cakes. The sandwiches and salads are so fresh and filling. I was so happy to taste roast turkey breast instead of processed turkey lunch meat! Wonderfully friendly service in a lovely and unpretentious environment.
