The sushi is amazing at Yamato! I am a big fan of shrimp tempura sushi and I think their Black Dragon roll is one of the best shrimp tempura rolls in town. The Yama roll was also great. It has Maryland crab in the middle, spicy tuna on top, and on top of that it has crunchy flakes. I didn’t like the wasabi shumai as much as the sushi. It was very good, but also very spicy. I also got the seaweed salad, which was great too. Yamato is casual, but not too casual. Their restaurant is a little bit small but very nicely decorated. They also have a sushi bar that you can sit at in addition to the tables. The service was normal, but a little slow, and this restaurant is a little pricey-even for a sushi restaurant, but whether this restaurant is expensive or not is all relevant. There is a reason why this restaurant is always crowded. It is definitely one of the better sushi restaurants in town and it’s BYOB.

I was home for a week and my parents had suggested to go out for sushi. They had patronized this place a bunch of times. In their case they usually purchase bento boxes from their lunch menu. Being the sushi lover I am, I thought the Raven and Manna Rolls seemed like a try. Boy was I wrong. They both lacked in taste from the over abundance of sweet type sauces they were drowned in. The Raven Roll had multiple weird crunch textures, which deterred further eating. In the end their best product was the California Rolls in the bento boxes. These requiring the least bit off effort, ironically.

Awesome specialty rolls, fresh, chunky. Teriyaki chicken is totally awesome for non-sushi lover.

This is the best sushi restaurant that I have ever been to. Not only their sushi is great but also their Chinese cuisine was amazing too! I will eat there everyday if I can! This is definitely a place to check out!

Great service. Best sushi in town and a lot of options to pick from(sushi roll wise). Dine in area is a little small and always packed. But once you eat there you’ll understand why.

Best sushi I’ve had in a while and the best in Baltimore. Very friendly staff that will make you feel like you’re at home. No corking fee for wine and they’ll even bring you a cold pack and chilled wine glasses for white wine. The maki were beautiful and equally delicious. The king roll with red snapper and hot sauce was our personal favorite, though all of the maki we had were delicious. Also, miso soup was much better than other restaurants, as it was loaded with tofu and small pieces of nori. We will add to our rotation of regularly visited restaurants for sure.

I love Yamato! I don’t think you can go wrong with any order, but my favorites were the Jason and Magic Fire roll. The service was amazing, food A+ and super fresh, and I wish I lived in Baltimore so I could go more often.

I had really high expectations for Yamato from the reviews, but found the food and service both disappointing. Instead of opting for a lunch special, I went towards the naruto roll that I was really craving, and asked for miso soup and a house salad. My soup came out quickly and was very over-salted, but it happens, not the worst thing that they can do to you. My naruto came out and I asked if my salad was coming and was met with a confused look from the waitress. She said«one minute» and disappeared, then came back with my other roll and a dish of chili sauce. I tried to clarify that I’d asked for a house salad, but to no avail. No salad for me. The naruto was disappointing — and expensive — with cucumber that was less than crisp and fishy tasting fish contents.

This place is my go to for sushi. I love how fast the service is and the quality of the rolls. I usually start off with a ginger house salad, which has flavorful homemade dressing. Then my boyfriend and I split some of their special sushi rolls that come out on a plate, beautifully displayed. I like that there are a lot of options and especially the unique rolls that have fresh mango inside! Amy’s roll and the rainbow roll are always a good choice as well. The shrimp Shumai are also an excellent addition to the meal. If you are looking for a sushi fix and are in the Timonium area, check this place out!

Traveling often results in eating unhealthy, so tonight I took the healthy route with sushi. There were a couple of sushi bars within walking distance to my hotel, but looked mediocre. I found this place and decided to drive, turned out to be worth the inconvenience. The restaurant is located in a plaza with ample parking, just past the REI store. The front of the restaurant has several tables and a sushi bar in the back. It looks like most sushi bars and is on the small side. The place is clean, but don’t expect anything hip, trendy or lavish. I sat at the sushi bar and noticed that the sushi chefs were Japanese, usually a good sign of things to come. I typically order a roll or two and some sushi. Tonight I went with the healthy option, sashimi. I ordered the Deluxe Sashimi Dinner and a side of Saba sashimi. The dinner included Miso soup that was very rich in flavor. The sashimi included Sake, Maguro, Hamachi, Escolar and Red Snapper. All of the fish were fresh with perfect texture. I really enjoyed the place and noticed that they have many repeat customers dining there, which is not surprising based on the average rating. If I lived here, I would have a seat with my name on it.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant! I’ve been going there for years and everything about it is excellent. The sushi is so fresh and made super fast. They have a ton of sushi options, and I’ve never gotten a bad roll. Some of my favorites to get are the Black Dragon roll, the Jason Roll, and the Spicy Golden roll. Although every time I go and try something new, it’s always delicious. The restaurant itself is small, so there may be a wait at peak times, but it is worth it. They make the sushi very fast, so if you’re in a hurry you can be in and out quickly. The service is excellent every time. It is also a BYOB restaurant, which is nice because there is a liquor store on the same strip. Also, they have great lunch specials Monday-Saturday that are great if you are trying to save money. I highly recommend this restaurant.

It’s hard to believe this place got so many good reviews. Sushi here was thoroughly disappointing. Everything on their menu says«Special Roll,» but nothing is special about any of them. Most are misleading in their descriptions. My boyfriend is a real sushi afficionado, but I could tell he wasn’t into this place when he didn’t order more. The only good thing I can say is it was very near our hotel and we were too tired to go anywhere further. The Spicy Soft Shell Crab Roll and Sweet Heart Roll were a big disappointment. The only thing I found interesting was a roll with crispy rice, but I can’t remember the name. We went to Fusion a couple nights later, after it being recommended by a local, and it was in a different league. If you’re thinking about this place, drive another 5 minutes away and check out Fusion. Much more creativity and the rolls were larger and tastier.

Really good sushi option on York road. Comparable to umi sake and edo up the road. Have only had good experiences and they have great sashimi.

This place is relatively small and well kept. The servers are very nice and energetic. It seems that the customer base here is very closely knit as at least one or two groups said«bye» in chinese(the workers are chinese) when they left. Without saying, the food is good enough to keep those customers coming back as well. So my mistake while going to a sushi place with«sushi» in the name is to think that they made their other entrees as good as their sushi… Without saying the sushi itself was good. It wasn’t fine dining sushi good, but good enough to satisfy a regular sushi crave. Now onto that mistake… I ordered a shrimp tempura udon… what came out was a chinese styled noodle soup bowl with the shrimp tempura on a separate plate(holy crap! they actually didn’t put it in the soup. Yay)… but the most important thing is that it came with udon noodles =P… I don’t quite know what else to say… the soup base wasn’t the typical base of a udon bowl and the noodles tasted like they were just store bought. I give this 3 stars for the sushi, would be two for the udon. but that was my fault for ordering a non sushi dish at a sushi place…

This place was pretty great for dine in, and I am very curious as to how take out will be, as that’s what I normally do. I’ve surprisingly never been here before, and I live right down the street. The roll menu was very creative, and full of different options. I had the tiger tale roll(awesome) and one of the sushi special rolls. Both were awesome. The only complaint would be that they were out of ONE of their entrée specials, which is always disappointing when you go to order, and they dont have it. Staff was very friendly, and the rolls came out super fast. I would totally come back again, and I will.

Yamato had not disappointed since my husband and I decided to give them another try. We typically try a variety of different rolls each time we visit, and this particular time we tried the yellow dragon roll and the Ayman roll. Both were very delicious but I have to say the Ayman definitely takes the cake! I want to say the addition of mango made it all worth it, but it was so delicious! If your looking to try something different, I recommend those two rolls. One of the unique things about Yamato Sushi is their ginger. It is sweeter than most and very delicious! We typically eat it after we finish our sushi because we know the benefits and wonders ginger does for the body!

This is more of a 4.5 for the excellent sushi! I tried a specialty roll called the Stan roll and salmon nigiri which is one of my faves anywhere. The rolls blew me away with taste, freshness and presentation! I feel as if I inhaled my food. It was that good. At the end of the meal, I was given a beautifully cut half of a delectably juicyorange to cleanse the palette. For $ 20 I was definitely satisfied and can’t wait to put more of that yumminess into my mouth. Oh and this is a BYOB spot so spot in at the liquor spot three doors down on the same side of the shopping center and you’ll be happy. There’s a free parking lot so that’s always a plus and while the prices aren’t the lowest I may bump the review up to 5 after a few more trials. Get thee to this sushi! You will not regret it.
