Reviewing Sam’s as a barber shop, this has exactly what I want in a barber shop: a short wait time for experienced barbers at reasonable prices. They do styling, dyeing, shampoos… but I can’t comment on that part of the business(never had those services). Cash only; ATM in the waiting area.

When I moved to Timonium from Fallston about 8 years ago I needed a new barber. I tried several places. It was like the three bear story, the one place had two barbers, one that could cut my hair well the other did not. So when you went I would hope the one that was good was working if not it would be a bad hair cut. The next place had three barbers they seemed to be pretty good, however their hours of operating were not very good plus a long wait. The next two were chains, both back to the hit or miss with quality plus you never knew how many people were actually cutting hair and how busy the wait etc. I must of passed Sam’s Barber a thousand times before I actually went in. It looks small from the outside, I was thinking another two or three barbers long wait etc. Well I was wrong! there are always at least 5 barbers on duty, most of the time when I go in there are at least ten, I am not sure how many exactly, there are many! I never have to wait unless I want a certain person. I always get a great hair cut and now trust the next person up to cut my hair so there is consistency with all of barbers. The only negative I have found is that there are two barbers that smoke and I cannot stand the smell of smoke on them when the cut my hair.

Great family run business. The men running the place are great. Any men looking for a place that’s traditional and family owned will love it here. Ask for John and you’ll leave happy.

Reliably great place for my sons’ haircuts. Quick, no frills, inexpensive… exactly what a classic barber shop should be. Parking can get a little tight but there are plenty of spots if you don’t mind an extra couple of steps.

I have had my hair cut at Sam’s Barber & Styling since 1970, one year after the shop opened and the year I was born. Mr. Sam is retired now, and his son-in-law, Mark, runs the shop. The shop has about 10 chairs(I’ve haven’t actually counted), having expanded once, and is a family barbershop with a family environment. Kids have always been a big part of their business. The haircuts are excellent. From the styled, feathered looks of the ‘70s & ‘80s to the short clipper cuts that are popular today, they do it all. The shop is often full of waiting customers(sign of a good shop!), but they do an excellent job of keeping the line moving and taking customers in order. As a life-time Lutherville resident, I consider Sam’s a Lutherville institution where several generations of men(and ladies) have found excellent skills and service.
