Best Donuts in the County. I drive all the way from Bellingham just for one of there amazing apple fritters. If you get a warm one you will be in heaven. They have one the size of your head. Well worth the drive.

The donuts smelled amazing, unfortunately when I stopped by at 7:05, the door was open but chairs blocked the entrance. The donuts were out but they told me they didn’t open until 7:30. The sign on the door said they open at 7. I guess they did not want to sell me 2 dozen donuts for my office. :(

If you like donuts, hit this place up. They are the ‘crispy on the outside, melt in your mouth’ type of donuts. Good, good, good! The owner was also super nice and friendly about our indecision in choosing donuts for the first time. We’ll be back!

Ahhhh Doris Jean’s… how I love thee. In this rural northwestern community, this tiny bakery is a budding slice of Italian heaven! To start with we live a bit away, in Sumas, but are lucky enough to have their donuts delivered to the gas station next door. I am fairly sure my husband’s daily purchases help secure this part of the delivery route LOL Being in virtual farmland, my attention was more than peaked when I heard that Doris Jean’s started making cannolis. Cannoli! Did I dare to dream that so far from my native Los Angeles I might find a decent cannoli. Heck, i would have settled for an average one, in my desperation. Boyyyyy did i hit the jackpot! Let me start by telling you that they have the BEST cannoli shell I have ever had. E V E R. And I grew up in the Italian neighborhoods of Chicago, so you can bet I know my cannolis! This shell is just… wow. You can taste the mingling of light spices in this wonderfully tasty shell. I had hoped to bring home all 3 flavors of their newest delight– the regular, the almond, and the chocolate. However a local company had come shortly before me and wiped out their stock save for a remaining chocolate cannoli. Mine, all mine! Imagine a traditional filling meeting, say… chocolate mousse. Rich, with a hint of citrus, the cannoli consistency we all love, it was a whole new breed of delicacy. It was devoured too fast to capture it’s likeness for prosperity but I will be back to try the remaining 2 and snag another chocolate one. * Rumor has it… they have started making CALZONES now as well! I was holding out for trying their meatball sub, whose reputation is quickly proceeding it. If it is anything like the rest of their products, that is going to be one heck of a calzone… Thumbs up!

OK Update I told my friend about the meatball subs so we went for lunch today. To start with let me tell you about the sizes they have small for $ 4.99 and large for $ 6.99. If you want to feed 3 people get the large it is a whole loaf of bread! We both got smalls I ate the whole thing but my friend only ate half. The bread… the bread so light and fluffy crusty and chewy at the same time perfect for a sandwich. The meatballs were very moist, soft and flavorful. The sauce was tangy with a bit of savory just right. There was plenty of melted cheese as well. Great Meatball sandwich! Why would anyone go to subway? Less food less taste. A few people came in while we were there and got the fresh made clam chowder that he makes on Fri they all raved about how good it was last time so that says a lot that they were coming back for more. I did get the focaccia rolls the other day very tasty some of the best I have had. Can’t wait to try the next thing on the menu.

I recently had the French Bread Pizza and it was amazing! I don’t know if I can go back to store bought french bread. This had the best crunch on the outside but so light on the inside. My pizza had great sauce, cheese, & fresh red pepper with olives. I’m definitely coming back for Donuts too.

Doris’s Doughnuts is a nifty little doughnut shop that reminds me of the doughnut shops back in Memphis, a place where you can come in and actually sit down and enjoy a doughnut and coffee while chatting it up with the locals. There are many flavors to chose from. I’ve had the apple fritter, maple bar and plain glazed. All were excellent. Kevin is the owner and he’s a real sweetheart. He roasts his own coffee and it’s really good! I love this place. They are now making breads and pizzas daily. Can’t wait to try the French bread pizza. It looked amazing.
