American Building Technologies

i had abt blow insulation into my house in Cambridge. i got to abt through the mass-​save approved contractor list, On the list they claim to be located in Boston though they are actually in lynn.
Hard to tell how well the work was done but they were extremely unprofessional and managed to piss off my neighbors by blocking an active driveway. Putting equipment all over the sidewalk and leaving trash on another neighbors property. What was supposed to be a 1 day job took 3, Because they were 5 hours late on day 1 and 4 hours late on day 2.
Finally they did some work inside the house with a lot of yelling, running around and generally acting badly. My wife, was uncomfortable being alone in the house while they were there
My advice — go with someone else

We were able to schedule this project within the time frame we desired. We always received return calls as promised when scheduling. The installers were friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. They did a nice job cleaning the outside area when they were finished, however, the inside clean up in our attic was not what I had hoped.

We just had American Building Technologies come to our home yesterday. They arrived on time (Appointment was for 730am and they arrived at 715am) and were very professional. They spent about a half day in the house and were careful about not letting our dog out of the house. They cleaned up their mess as if nothing was done. I would recommend.

I could not be happier with the work this company did on my house yesterday, I have an AFrame house, which is all roof and angled walls. This was a big project. The workers came in on Tuesday am, because of all they had to do, I made the choice to leave for the day, Isreal the main person in charge gave me his cell phone number to check with them on progress, he told me it could take 2 days, now I have an indoor cat, so I asked if they could stay late to finish, which he said they would, at 7:30 pm he called me to tell me they were done. When I arrived back home I was not sure what to expect, because I did check back in to my house mid day and it was a real mess, holes all over my walls lots of dust. Now for the BEST PART, I entered my house and everything was spot less, the holes in the walls all patched and covered, all I need to do this put a coat of paint on and you would never know what had been done. Surely going to make a big difference in my heating bill this winter. American Building Technologies gets an A+ in my book.

This is the 5^th insulation job I’ve had done (multiple houses), and the 3^rd insulator I’ve used. ABT was the best of the 3, and they were all pretty good. Israel & Val did the installation, were prompt and enjoyable fellas to have around the house for 2 days. They were very self-​sufficient: I just unlocked the house, showed them the electrical breaker & left for work. Tianna did the scheduling & it was effortless. They worked extremely hard & were more rigorous that other providers (e.g. insulated near the electrical service entrance to the house, whereas other providers skipped that part of the wall entirely). They removed & reinstalled aluminum siding, which is prone to dents & damage, but I’ve noticed zero damage.

I would not recommend American Building Technologies. I had first called to make an appointment for an insulation estimate in August. The person on the phone took my information and said she would call me back the next day. A week later and I hadn’t received a call back so I called again. She took my information a second time and said she would call the next day (but no phone call the next day). So I called two days after the second call and no answer so I called a fourth time the next day and finally was able to make an appointment for mid-​September.
My appointment was for 9am. 10am rolls around and no one has shown up and no call to say they were running late. I call the office and she had to call her supervisor to check in to see where he was. She called back 20 minutes later to say he was stuck somewhere. She started asking me again what the appointment was for and to make this story somewhat short, in the end I didn’t need to stay home and miss a day of work for an appointment I didn’t need. I don’t understand why this wasn’t determined in the first place during my previous calls when giving all the information I had.
Needless to say, it has been a frustrating experience. It seems like the lines of communication are not really working over there and in the end I got nowhere. I am not pleased with my experience with American Building Technologies.

ABT completed blown-​in insulation in my Dorchester 3^rd floor unit in November 2010. Romain and Jose were friendly, easy going, professional and the work was completed on time (minus a vent that was put in two weeks later). The place was vacuumed clean which made me very happy. They were in and out in a day and everything put back the way it was. I even have an extra flashlight now :)
In all, great experience, responsive professionals and the price felt right.
I’m not sure if it’s psychological but the place feels warmer and my heating bill is showing 24% less usage over the last month compared to the same time last year even though there are more people living here now. I’ll continue to follow the trends but it seems that it was all worth it.

I called two different companies for quotes on blown-​in cellulose insulation — ABT was the smaller of the two, quotes were similar in price. I went with ABT as I liked the fact that I was dealing with the owners. They have several high tech infrared temperature readers. Their team was professional, trustworthy and knowledgeable. Even though our job ended up being more complicated than orginally anticipated, Romain did not try to charge any more or shortcut the job. They did what it took to get the job done right — pleasure to work with. I would recommend ABT to anyone who is looking to do blown in insulation.
