First time at a paint bar and I liked it a lot! We started with just mixing a lot of paint, which I think was unnecessary – why can’t I just start with a grey and make it lighter or darker if I want? Then we kept running out because we didn’t make enough of the mix. House wine was good, so I suggest just getting that. Staff were VERY peppy and enthuastic, a bit too much for me, but maybe because it was my first time and I was hesistant about trying it and having it look horrible. But you know what? It doesn’t. And if it does, they can help you!

This was my first time painting anything but a wall since middle school. The staff were all fantastic! I honestly cannot say enough good things about them. They were patient and helpful, especially with a first timer like me. The atmosphere was friendly and encouraging, they have beer wine and snacks available, and small plates of food. The food was solidly ‘meh,’ next time we’ll try to eat first, but there will definitely be a next time. I think I’m hooked!

I was so determined to be the first to review, I am writing this before the paint on my canvas has even had a chance to dry. Okay, so I am exaggerating just a little bit, yet I am happy to pave the way for this new paint bar’s promising Unilocal reputation. I am certainly not new to the current«Paint and Sip» phenomenon as I frequent these events about twice a month at various locations. However, this was my first visit to the Muse Paint Bar chain. This new Muse location just opened within the Market Street shopping plaza. Market Street is a happening place and the addition of a paint bar simply adds to the appeal of a night out for dinner, shopping, AND perhaps some creative expression. The atmosphere within Muse is modern and trendy. Several tables fill the room surrounding a bar located towards the back and a stage area along the side for the instructor. Upon registering for a paint night on the website, you will be asked the names of those in your party. A seating chart is prepared and place cards are set out ahead of time to ensure your group of friends will sit together. Each place is set with all necessary materials for creating your masterpiece. The staff even pours the paint colors onto your paper plate palette. All you need to do is grab your apron and a drink. The small bar offers a decent selection of beer, wine, soft drinks, and a small menu of snacks that can be enjoyed before painting begins. I recommend having dinner before arriving if you are real hungry, but the Muse menu offers mozzarella sticks, bruschetta, mac and cheese, small pizzas, and more. We tried the sampler appetizer basket and while clearly it’s no gourmet meal, it definitely hit the spot. The studio doors open about a half hour prior to the start of paint instruction and the kitchen begins taking orders. This is a great time to grab a snack as it can be difficult to paint and eat at the same time. Our instructor this past Friday night, Carrie, was enthusiastic and engaging. She did a great job explaining the entire process before the painting instruction began and helped us feel welcome and comfortable at the studio. In between instruction, music is played and painters work at their own pace until the next step is given. The music adds to the atmosphere and creates a fun vibe. Carrie walked us through each step of the painting with detailed instructions, demonstrations on her own canvas, and lots of suggestions to help us unleash our inner Picassos. The end result is your very own masterpiece to take home. The one small negative of this studio, compared to others I have visited, was a lack of space between tables and chairs. The tables were tightly packed and I felt as though I had little room to move without bumping into the painters behind me. I also did not have the best view of the instructor’s easel. It is quite possible we had the worst seats in the house that night as lack of space did not appear to be a problem for everyone. A calendar of events is available on the Muse website with a link to register and pay. Events will fill up quickly so it is a good idea to sign up in advance. Your registration fee for a night of painting includes the canvas, paint, and the use of all other necessary supplies. Food and beverages are not included. It is amazing how those who have never painted before discover their hidden artistic talents. What a fun night out to socialize with friends!
