Okay, I still like Reedy Meadow quite a bit, but if it rains ATALL in the previous week, the whole place is a pond. Expect to get your feet and ankles wet. At times, the par 36th hole that goes out into the marsh is unplayable. When this course is dry, it’s one of my favorites, but it’s wet so frequently, especially late in the season, that I can’t really give it 4 stars.

After trying to hit up a few other nearby courses on a Friday afternoon with no available tee times, we found ourselves at Reedy Meadow. We entered the parking lot and thought, a las, not too many cars and hopefully a tee time not 2 hours in the future. $ 58 for 2 of us with a cart — not bad, we thought, this is gonna be great. It was quiet, not too packed… then we started playing and realized why. We had 2 groups in front of us we had to wait for to start. No biggie, the sun was shining. As we made our way around the course, we noticed a couple things: the aforementioned turf tee boxes. WTH? They are horrible to tee off from. If you’re like me(not a great golfer), you sometimes hit the grass on the way to the tee. If you did this accidentally on the turf tees, you get an unpleasant blast of black sand in your face. Ugh. Next up: I get that it’s stictly a 9 hole course, budget, yada yada, but none of the holes are marked — not a one! Ugh. Next up: the grounds. We found them not well maintained at all! Granted, this was a week after Irene came to town, but still — they had wooden shipping pallets to get you to the pin on one hole(don’t ask which one, it was marked :)). While I do agree it’s nice that there are no tall buildings around, the natural scenery creates another eyesore — people leaving their beer cans and bottles in the little marshy areas around the course. Also attributed to the marshy areas — bugs! We ended up skipping the last 2 holes because we started to get eaten alive at 5:30 pm. Go to Reedy Meadow if: you are a beginner(lots of father/sons groups out when we where there) and can finish up before it gets too buggy.

The«Lynnfield Center Golf Club» hasn’t been called that in quite some time. A few years, actually. The town bought this place alongside the same time as when they bought the King Rail course too. Note the sign I uploaded. It’s called«Reedy Meadow Golf Course» now. - It’s a nice easy 9-hole public beginner’s course with little road noise and a nice open atmosphere. I played very well here, and had a wonderful time. It was $ 20 to walk 9 holes, and I had to pick up a glove too — $ 10 for a nice Callaway. It wasn’t very busy and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. - The layout is fairly flat and open. This is a good course for beginners or just crummy golfers(like myself!). I found the fairways and rough and greens to be well-maintained. I mostly enjoyed the fact that this place is not near any major roadways or tall buildings, so it is incredibly pleasant to spend the afternoon here. - My one gripe, is the tee boxes. And I really should take off another star for that, but I did really enjoy my game here, so, 4 stars it is. 7 of the 9 tees are not grass, but rather these fake-grass-mats that you can stick your tee through. Now, normally I wouldn’t mind, but I actually broke TWO tees trying to stick them into the mat on one hole! And you can’t get quite the same grip with your feet on these mats like you can real grass. This is a HUGE negative to this course, but is the ONLY negative here. It is because of this single fact that I can’t quite recommend the place to you, BUT I myself will be going back. Just remember if you DO go — pack your short tees because you’re not going to be able to stick a long tee into those darned mats!!! - * On a side note — this is my 1,000th review on this site(not that anybody’s counting) and I am glad that I am able to review a place in regards to a sport that I am quite passionate about; GOLF! *
