Gregg’s Cycle, Inc.

This was my first time visiting Gregg’s and I was very impressed. The selection of cycles and equipment is amazing! I visited due to a couple things that needed repair. Travis in service was amazing! He fixed me right up and was so great to deal with. I’ve been riding for many years and have been to a number of shops in several states. This is the first shop I’ve been to where the staff wasn’t behaving like a bunch of elitists. Serious cyclist or casual rider … All are welcomed here!

Gregg’s Cycle IS THE bike shop to be at. I have no idea why people are complaining about prices for the bikes here… These are high quality bikes that are competitively priced (and comparable to other local bike shops) — even comparable to online prices, plus you get the bonus of great service and expertise that goes above and beyond.
My bf and I were on the search for bicycles for the summer, so we decided to hit up all the bike shops. We went to REI and Performance first but no one was really helping us out (it was a sunny weekend so everyone was pretty busy). Finally, we went to Gregg’s Cycle and the place is AMAZING. I’m completely new to the intense world of biking so I came in thinking a hybrid bike would be the best for me but I’ve learned that I was so incredibly wrong (and am so glad they set me straight haha). I ended up getting helped out by Sean and this guy is the man! After talking to him about what my biking intentions were he set me off on the right path of road bicycles and then made sure I was properly fitted. My bf and I each got to try out a few different bicycles and at first I thought all the bikes would be relatively the same and that I wouldn’t be able to really tell the difference… but again, I was oh-​so wrong. I learned that there is a bike that is meant for you and a big difference in each bike. On my final test ride, Sean recommended I give this Specialized bike a shot and off I went on the test ride to find out that this was THE bike.
I ended up getting it and a few other essential to get me started. I’ve had the bike for a month now and have zero regrets. As for my boyfriend, they didn’t have the bike he wanted in the right size and Sean and team wanted to make sure he left with the bike FOR him, so they checked around and saw that their Green Lake store had it and put it on hold for us (we ended up getting it the next day).
Sean and the other sale people that I’ve had the privileged of dealing with are all top notch. They are NOT commission based and are not pushy — woop! I’ve been back a bunch more times since and Gregg’s Cycle is definitely my favorite. Their customer service and the quality time that the sales folk are willing to spend with you is amazing.

Had my boyfriend take in my vintage refit french bike that some rad guys in bend, oregon put together for me. It’s rides like a dream and fits my 5f 11in frame. I was biking around Lake Sammamish a bit ago (a 30 mile loops the bike handles like a champ) and my gear shifter broke (the shifter was placed over a year ago in bend for 25 bucks). I’ve heard greggs can be kinda uppity but the alderwood location is right next to my house and I wanted the bike fixed for a ride I’m doing next weekend. I only use my bike about 6 times a year due to it’s age. If I want something more hardcore I just rent it. (lack of storage space). The greggs guy looked over my bike for 20 minutes. Said it needed a lot more work then it’s worth. New shifter, rear derailer, chain. Quoted 250 at the least. The greggs guy didn’t wanna take my money and said I needed a new bike. My shifter is an older more vintage one. I mean I knew those guys were kinda assholes. But not everyone in Seattle drives a brand new bike, nor do they want one. And saying my bike isn’t worth fixing it’s kinda a dick move. It’s my bike. I determine the worth.
My boyfriend lives in Bellingham which apparently is a huge bike hub community. He took it into Kulshan Cycles the next day. They quoted me a vintage shifter for 10 bucks (they are even going to place it on the crossbar were it would of originally sat!!) and new cabling for 20. Said my derailer did need work but he could clean up some of the rust and it would run fine for now. If I want a new derailer and chain– he quoted me 70. And the guys at Kulshan loved my bike and went out of their way to find parts to keep with its vintage look.
Really. I don’t need to say another word. I’ll never step into a greggs again and tell all my friends to stay away.

I have gone to Greggs numerous times for tune-​ups and some products. I have always been pleased. I am often surprised at how long it sometimes takes to get helped considering the ratio of staff to customer. I have an extensive background in retail so I know stuff comes up, I am not an unreasonable person. I honestly wouldn’t buy a bike there simply because I am not motivated to spend that much money. I had to buy my 8 year old a 24 in bike recently and I did call them for a range of cost on their bikes… around $ 400…now I don’t even know if I was rolling in dough, that I would spend that much money. While this is my favorite of my two kids (come on I am just kidding… it varies day to day :)) I am not going to spend that much money on something she would grow out of before we left the parking lot :)

Bought a Groupon for a tune up and brought in my old school Trek mountain bike to have the cobwebs dusted off and have it checked out to make sure it was safe to ride. Guy who greeted me seemed nice enough, put my bike on a stand and evaluated it.
After checking it over, he tells me that my bike isn’t worth the money I’d spend on a tune up ($ 85).
If I walked in and asked if my bike was worth money, I would have expected that insight. But I didn’t, so I was a bit put off by him telling me something I obviously valued was worthless (at least to him).
I informed him I had a Groupon (meaning the service was already paid for) and he continued the work order. I told him frankly that although the bike isn’t very valuable to him, it is worth something to me (it’s actually quite sentimental since it was a gift from my late uncle).
He did the paperwork and when he handed me my copy he said «Ok superstar, here you go.» Thanks guy, this superstar will take her business elsewhere.

I love bikes. Greg is a great guy!

My girlfriend and I visited Gregg’s Cycles to find what would be her first bicycle in over 15 years. We needed a guide that would help us get back into cycling and show us what to look for in an introductory bike.
A week earlier, we had learned much about biking from Tony at Gregg’s Cycles Greenlake, but now we wanted to buy one closer to where we lived, up in Lynnwood.
At the Lynnwood location, Craig, the guy with glasses, helped us pick out the bikes that Tony from the Greenlake location had recommended. He ensured that any concern we had about biking was addressed, and that we felt comfortable with the bike we ultimately bought.

I took the used bike I had recently purchased in to have a new tube installed as I was feeling a repetitive bump while riding. The lady bike tech spotted the issue immediately (the tube wasn’t seated). When I told her that the chain kept falling off when I shifted into 1^st gear she spotted that the frame was slightly bent. She fixed both issues while I waited and then showed me that the seat quick release valve was missing a part. She found the needed part and all was fixed for about $ 40. I had taken it to be looked at at a different bike store the day before and they didn’t spot any of these issues and they didn’t have the tube I needed in stock. I will make the drive to Gregg’s from now on. Tip: don’t try to make a left turn into their parking lot, there is way too much traffic.

These guys have repaired my bike 3 times this year. I have worked with a different person each time and every time it’s the same solid, consistent, professional service.
No sales pressure. Knowledgeable staff. Great explanation of the problem and reasonable options to consider short and long term. Cost of repairs are reasonable.

I went in with my son to Gregg’s in Alderwood, about an hour before closing time, to browse around, not sure exactly what we were looking for. We were immediately approached by a member of the staff, who helped us have a look at a few bicycles. He got us set up to take a test ride right away. There was no heavy pressure, no rush, no stress.
My son went on a 20-​minute ride. He wanted to try a few other bicycles, and the staff was happy to oblige, fitting and adjusting each bike. Soon it was approaching closing time for the store. I asked a staff person, «would it be OK for my son to take another test ride, even though the store was supposed to be closing?» He replied that we were welcome to stay as long as we liked. So cool!
We ended up purchasing a bicycle that night, and we were very pleased with the entire experience. I highly recommend this shop.

Saturday morning 5÷9÷15, I arrived at the store @ 9:30 (they open @ 10). The night before I had accidentally damaged the rear tire of a bike I delivering to my son in Bellingham. The person opening the store greeted me with a smile as I knocked (if I were him, I would have made a run for it. That’s why I don’t do direct customer service). 25 minutes after my desperate pleas, the tube was replaced, an odd install of the tire that I bought at Goodwill was brought up to safe specs, and the brakes were adjusted. The charge was parts/​labor, and a very pleasant interaction with Kelsey. The general rapport of all the employees was great, and every customer that came in during my stay seemed just as satisfied as me. Great vibe here. THANK YOU!

I just went in for some socks, but these guys were so friendly and helpful. They even explained how to care for the smart wool socks I purchased. Would definitely visit again.

Love this bike shop! We’ve bought bikes for our kids here since they started riding. The trade-​in program for kids’ bikes is fantastic. The service department is honest, helpful, efficient, and thorough. Yesterday, I dropped in with two bikes that needed repairs. One had two flat tires and the other needed work on the chain assembly and cassette. They gladly accepted these bikes on the spot, immediately diagnosed the problems, and offered to fix them while I waited. The cost for parts and labor was totally reasonable – new tires, new parts, same day service for about $ 65. Could not be happier.

I came in and asked the guy to fix the creaking noise in my headset. He greased it up (carbon steerer), tightened it but didn’t use a torque wrench. It was loose by the time I got home.
Later that week I stopped by and asked another guy what chain lube he recommends, as a litmus test. He recommended Triflow. I was a bike messenger for 10 years in Seattle, trust me Triflow is one of the worst.
Like a lot of big chain shops you sometimes the experience, attention to detail, etc. can vary widely between the employees. Without knowing them well first it can be hard to tell who you should ask for help. Decent prices on bikes and stuff I guess though.

Outstanding customer service! We had an older bike in our garage that belonged to me years ago. My daughter mentioned she wanted a bike at college, and she was happy with my aged, but with character, mountain bike. It needed some TLC. We called Gregg’s in Lynnwood. My daughter spoke with several employees on the phone and they all were very helpful. Travis told us we could bring in the bike to be evaluated (20+ year old bike). Travis was absolutely amazing. He was positive, courteous, knowledgeable, helpful and funny. He recommended a few minor things that he could do to get the bike up to a safe and sufficient manner. He didn’t oversell us or make us feel like we had a piece of junk. My daughter was so absolutely thrilled to have a working bike. She got back to school and texted later that day to tell me she had a fabulous bike ride. Travis is a superstar!!! Thank you!

So I stop in here on a really nice weather Sunday to get a new speedometer. Usually not a problem at Gregg’s, in the past they’ve serviced my bike w/​o an appt. If I buy the part from them, they install it right then and I’m on my way. Not this time. You’ll have to wait I’m told. So I ride up to Performance Bikes off Alderwood Mall Way and they take care of me right away, sell me a new wireless speedometer less expensive than the one Gregg’s had and I’m out the door. Now that’s what I call service. Needless to say I’m a little disappointed in Gregg’s.

Very friendly staff. I’m a biking newbie (bought my first bike since I was in grade school) and not once did I feel like I was being talked down to (like I was at other places). This is not a discount bike shop — the bikes are much more expensive than your Wal-​Mart bikes but that’s because the ones they sell are top quality. They talked to me about what I’d be using it for, how often I’d be riding, how far, etc — most importantly, they asked me what my price range was and didn’t try to sell me into a higher price bracket. I also got to try a bunch of different bikes.
I ended up buying a better quality of bike than I initially expected and spent a little more than planned, but that wasn’t due to pressure selling — it was because after spending more than 2 hours testing out bikes I found one I fell in love with and still use it constantly a year later.

I stopped in to get pedal straps and lights. First the lights were priced two dollars more than listed online, which may not seem like much but when you’re on a tight budget every dollar counts.
Second the foot straps I was looking for were «not at this location.» I was told there were six in their system and they were ALL at the Green Lake location. That’s a great idea, let’s put every single one in our inventory at the same location. I waited 45 minutes for them to open and they didn’t even have what they said they would have.
Third I felt completely snubbed by the service guys. They all had completely elitist attitudes about them and they seemed to enjoy making other people feel stupid.
The worst things you can do in my opinion are make the customer feel unwanted and mess up their order. This place did both. The only reason I gave them two stars and not one is because of Craig the sales guy. Craig was the only nice guy there and he was totally awesome. He talked to me before the store opened. He was attentive to my questions after they opened and he did everything he could to help me out. He even brought out some free cyclist magazines for me to read while I waited. That dude was indeed a good sales person and a good guy.
If you find yourself at the Alderwood Gregg’s Cycle ask for Craig; if you’re told he’s not in, I would suggest walking back out. It was every one else at this location that ’caused us to spend $ 300 and a different bicycle shop.

When I was 13 years old my father promised me a brand new 10 speed bike.
Things did not work out as planned… I was actually guilted into buying a used bike which just sat there and got rusty… flash forward 33 years (whoosh whoosh whoosh — that’s the sound of the flash forward) I decided to take matters into my own hands and buy a brand new bike for my Birthday this year.
I teach cycle classes so I kind of felt like a hypocrite pretending to know about «biking» when I didn’t even own a real one. I knew that one of my friend’s significant other worked at Gregg’s so I sent him an email to tell him what I was looking for.
BOB IS AWESOME!
After a few email exchanges Bob suggested that I look at a few specific styles/​brands of bike. I looked online, told him what I liked and then arranged for a time to come to the shop and take a test ride.
When I got there everything was set up and ready to go — we checked out two different sizes of the bike I said I liked and picked the right one and I was off… well, after signing the form saying that I wouldn’t sue them if I got hit by a car on my test ride AND I wouldn’t ride off with the bike. But then I was off!
It was just like being a kid again. wheeeeee!
When I came back after the test ride I got everything else I needed to go on my way. Helmet, bike rack, fenders etc…
It was fairly quick, relatively painless and thoroughly enjoyable.
Bob knows his stuff and I would definitely recommend going to see him. Just have in mind what you want and what you want to spend before you go in and he will get you set up.

MUCH better than the Bellevue location. Even though I came here on a busy day, someone came over and greeted me almost immediately and was super willing to help… which already was better than my experience in Bellevue.
They don’t have as big of a selection here as they do at their Bellevue location… but I’d come here just for the service alone. I got some really great options for different bikes and the sales guy put up with my attempt to find a «pretty» bike.
The sales guy told me about sizing and even though the bike that I wanted was out of stock, he said that I could have it delivered in about a week or two.
Great service… will be back soon to purchase my new bike!
