Indian restaurant @ the H-Mart food court. Really?! I’ve tried this place once and it’s pretty good!

Like many really good Indian eateries worldwide, this place is nothing fancy. It’s actually in the food court of the H-Mart in Lynnwood. And it’s nothing expensive. What it is is authentic and delicious. I recommend the Samosa Chaat… I could find its equal on the streets of Delhi. The Nepali dishes(mango curry, bean thread beef) are new twists on traditional Indian curries for me and worth ordering. The US-Indian standbys like Butter Chicken don’t disappoint. Naan is fine, but don’t pay for extra. Just enjoy the home cooked sweet/savory curries. And get extra chaat!

Good food at a very reasonable price. Very friendly and so clean! Highly recommend this place. We were use to eating at a similar place while we lived in Japan. We wondered if this would be that good. We were not disappointed. This is our second visit.

This place was very disappointing with the small & scant portions! The Indian restaurant in the Alderwood Mall food court gives you lots more food & tasted way better. Don’t waste your money.

I really liked the food here — it should be recognized that«Indian food» is a very broad term — and the food here is not very spicy like the typical Indian food you would get at most of the restaurants here in the US. The taste and flavor profile is more like North-east Indian food — light, mild and deep flavors, and not very greasy — this probably has to do with the Nepali origins of the people running this place. This place is also hard to find, as its in the Hmart food court.

Service was quick and food was delicious. Hidden away in the HMart mall, this place has some great plates offer — generous portions at a good price too!

I have eaten here a few times and the first few times they were really good and fast service. But I was here about 6wks ago and half the menu was not available and what I ended up ordering was not all that good. I came back today at what should have been opening time hoping to get some lunch. When I first got there I was told they weren’t open yet. No problem I did my shopping first. 20+ min later I tried again only to be told by the guy busy texting that they were not serving there rice cooker was broken. That’s the last time I try.

I strongly recommend that you give this place a pass and go elsewhere nearby. The other local Indian venues are easily discoverable here on Unilocal and are all relatively close at hand. First off, the name«India Express» implies that you order, your dish is plated up on the spot, and you sit down to eat. I was informed that about half of the items on the menu(which seemed to amount to anything not«chicken something») would have to be prepared ad hoc and would take about ten minutes. Ten minutes does not equal«express,» and time was something I was lacking. As a result, I ordered the butter chicken and chicken vindaloo which were already prepared, ready to go. They came with the usual sides of naan and rice. Ultimately, Indian food is always going to be a matter of personal taste given the wealth of spices and aromas at play. The butter chicken was not the best I’ve had; the sauce was on the thin side, not velvety, but otherwise the flavors were fine. The vindaloo was respectable in the heat as well as the flavor department, and at I must say that the chicken was tender in each dish. The rice and naan were fine as well. So, overall the food was really not bad. On the other hand, the utensils on offer were your choice of plastic spoon or plastic spork — no knives or forks, I kid you not. What well and truly killed this for me was when I realized I had forgotten to ask for a drink. I went back after having place my tray down at my table and asked for a glass of water. Despite having given a generous tip, the guy told me they don’t give out water. How absolutely, unmitigatedly galling and insulting. I was speechless, and I will never, under any circumstances, be back.

I wanna give a shout out to the genius who switched my and my boyfriend’s orders because i, the sensitive-tongued one, got the spicy chicken vindaloo and couldn’t finish my meal after the first bite, which prompted me to throw away my meal after four bites and lose any interest in coming back when the cashier is too incompetent or high(?) to get the curries right. Someone give that guy a raise.

I’ve been on a bit of an Indian food bender lately and wanted to try this place out based on the Unilocal reviews. My first impression was this place is immaculately clean. This is always reassuring when dealing in food court food. The guy working the counter was very polite. I told him I wanted a 2 entrée combo and he was eager to let me try whatever before I made my selection. I got the coconut curry and butter chicken. The butter chicken was really good and I liked that it seemed to be less creamy than others I’ve had and have more of the tomato base. The coconut curry was also a hit. It had great spices and flavor. Both curries had a good portion of chicken. My one complaint was the garlic naan. Naan is my favorite part and this garlic naan looked great first sitting on the plate. Unfortunately the naan was really hard and stale. It was hard to bite through and broke in half like cracker. The people next to me had food from here and there naan looked soft so I’m chalking it up to a fluke and I just got a bad piece. Overall I enjoyed the food here and will try them again and hopefully I get a better piece of naan.

At first it was hard to find this place. We drove around for a bit, then we decided to go inside the food court where this place happens to be at. We were greeted by great and friendly staff. We got to sample every food they got. We decided to go with Chicken Vindaloo and Butter Chicken. You get to choose two entrees(including a Naan, salad, and rice) for only $ 7.50. We got extra two Naan, and that would be cheaper than if you get just one extra. Both entrees tasted amazing. The chicken vindaloo is a little spicy if you are not used to spicy food, but we loved it. The butter chicken delicious with the naan. The spices added to both entrees are just great making them different than most indian food. Friendly staff, clean place, and great food will make us definitely come back again.

5 stars for taste, price, service, and cleanliness. Finished a movie and wanted some food nearby. We were thinking Indian and we came across this place on Unilocal. With few reviews we thought, and being so nearby we thought we could take a look. It’s a little tricky to find unless you know that’s it’s actually in H-Mart, in the food court area. First thing I noticed was how clean the place was. I actually thought it was closed because it was so clean! For $ 8 you get two entrees, rice and naan. We were going to get the vindaloo and coconut curry but after trying samples we went with vindaloo and butter chicken. The vindaloo had great flavor. It could be a little spicy for anyone sensitive to spice. The butter chicken was great! Usually I hate butter chicken because the sauce had no flavor to me, but this sauce had plenty of flavor. The naan was hot and fresh and rice was too. One naan probably won’t cut it so order and extra or two. The employee was friendly and happy and suggested we taste the vindaloo first because some people fine it too spicy. We tried it want found it perfect. I’m glad we tried the coconut curry too because it was a little sweet for my taste and the butter curry was wonderful. We will definitely be back and I almost wonder if the poster who wanted to give 0 stars and who was so sure she was being served by Indians ate at the same place? This place is great, I hope they stick around and continue to offer great food, great prices and great service.

Okay, so keep in mind this is mall food and I’m grading on a mall food scale which is different than sit down dining. Pretty good tasting food, fair price — that’s a 4. Parking: H-Mart Parking Ambiance: Food court. Service: Very nice people working there. They just opened and are eager to make a good impression. Food: They have a number of curries, premade in cafeteria style warmers. We had the tikka masala(butter chicken) and coconut curry — they have a couple of others but those were spicy and we were going low spice that day. They have 2 options: chicken or paneer — comes in 2 styrofoam containers — I think it’s about 6−8oz. 2 entrees for $ 7 — comes with rice & half a piece of naan bread(which they just ripped in half). I usually love butter chicken but this one lacked flavor — it was passable though. The coconut curry was a nice surprise — a lighter fresh kind of taste — I’ll get that one again. The garlic naan was yummy! We really liked it and wished they gave us the whole piece. Came with a mini bottled water. The portions seemed a little small, but that’s the way with Indian food anywhere so I really can’t take any stars off for that. Side note: They serve everything on paper Chinet plates and have disposable everything. I’m not sure how I feel about that. The rest of the food court uses plastic reusable plates/bowls. And the bottled water was very small. I wish they just had big jugs of water like the other restaurants do and you can get refills. Recommendation: Yeah, finally something new at H-Mart! :) When I’m not feeling like sushi, or Korean, there’s Indian now! I just hope they stick around!

Been eating at Hmart since it first opened and no restaurant last on that part of the store except Indian express. Great food! Good portion too. The Naan is a little bit thin compared to other Indian restaurant I’ve been to but the Momo chicken dumpling soup, Satay and Mango Lassi is a must try
