Whispering Pines Apartments

This whole experience was an absolute nightmare. Cue the psychotic Ukrainian woman. I called from my work phone on my break to inquire about availability. She called my work phone back the next week and harassed me about what they have available and urging me to come look. So the next day I went to look and I walk in and she just says «do you have your deposit and the application fee?» And hands me a stack of papers to fill out. I said ummm no… I’d like to SEE the apartment first, you know, like a normal freaking person. So she rushed me to go look and I tell her to hang on because my boyfriend was getting my children out of the car. She rolls her eyes and says we don’t have much time we need to go now. I tell her to wait, he’d like to see it with me. Then she harasses me about how only I can be there with my kids and he better not be living with me. I was like ummm lady, he owns his own house. He won’t be living with me. So we walk to the apartment and there’s a man with an unleashed dog. She goes absolutely ape shit and holds her hand out in front of me and my kids and wouldn’t let us walk and gets into a yelling match with this poor guy. I look at the guy and I’m just stunned over what took place. So I look at the apartment, it’s nice and blablabla. I tell her I’ll come back with the money order the next day since she said she was busy and couldn’t fill out papers with me today. So I go in with my two money orders and I ask them to not write on the deposit one because I have an out of state bank and it’s a nightmare getting it back into my bank if there’s writing on it. I was not sure id be accepted so there was a chance I’d get it back. The manager goes «well you better figure out a way to get me $ 125 or you won’t get this place!» Just like that. Psychotic. I said «listen, you have to work with me here. I have an out of state bank and I can’t get this back into my bank if you write all over it.» She says she will cut me a check if that happens and I’ll receive it in two weeks. Well, December 11 was when I got denied. Here it is January 26, and I have called once a day every day asking about it and it always goes to the answering machine. I have threatened to take them to small claims court since nobody will even return a phone call so that is what I’m going to do. These people are psychotic, money grubbing assholes. You can do better than this place, I’m serious. If you move in here, these people will make your life a living nightmare I guarantee it.
Edited to add– I contacted their corporate office and emailed everyone I could in hopes that SOMEBODY could help me. I got ahold of the right person who forwarded my email to the new manager who called me bright and early the next morning. She was polite and listened to me. I felt bad for her because that was her third day and she was dealing with such an issue. She said her accountant is cutting me a check the very next day and to expect it soon. Two weeks went by and still nothing. I sent another email to the manager explaining that I feel like I am being lied to because I have yet to receive anything. She promptly emailed back saying I’ll have it by the following Monday. I did get the check (late February) and the date on the check was February 18. AFTER our last conversation took place… So basically it was put on the back burner and forgotten about until I was heard from again. Luckily I finally got my money, but glad I never have to do «business» with them again. It’s unfortunate because the newest manager is really very sweet.
