Ambience with piano playing was great and palate cleansing wine was wonderful. Ordering wine was a fiasco. First, the wrong wine was brought and the second choice was not available. The red Zin and Cab that were brought didn’t smell or taste right. The manager tried to make things right and opened a new bottle to pour. Finally… the wine was good. The wait for everything was long, not explainable by the few people that were dining. Food presentation was good, but it all came out lukewarm. Bottom line: not worth the high cost for the experience. Hopefully, with the nice atmosphere of the restaurant, the dining experience will be improved.

Very disappointing meal. They did not have the wine we chose. My butter lettuce salad consistent of frisée and romaine ribs with a scant bite of goat cheese. When questioned, the server returned from asking the chef to report they were out of butter lettuce. My small, single fillet of branzino was served skin-side up. Plates were not warned, so our entrees were just barely warm. Only two desserts offered, and they were out of one of them. Hope they get it together before summer!

Very, very impressive food for an island in the middle of northern Lake Huron. The mussels appetizer was delicious and very large. And, unlike a lot of mussel dishes, they were not over-cooked. The grilled bone marrow appetizer was very tasty. Yes, it’s fatty, but you only live once. Crab cakes, prime ribeye, bolognese pasta, rack of lamb, raviolis, etc. were all exquisitely prepared and presented and delicious. The tiramisu dessert finished the night off the perfect way. If at all possible, sit outside in a table that overlooks the lake. It’s hard to beat that.

Hopefully the restaurant’s name does not make you think of «Silence of the Lambs(of course that was the first thing I thought).» Thankfully there were no fava beans – or cannibals – present when we dined at Chianti. Let’s ignore the prices as everything on Mackinac Island is expensive and frankly these prices are pretty much standard fare for dinner at a white tablecloth restaurant anywhere in 49757. What you won’t get anywhere else is a live piano player and a nice, relaxing atmosphere after a long day of dodging horse muffins and tandem bikes down on Main Street. There is a nice view from the windows and staff did not seem at all annoyed that we came 30 minutes before close. In fact, even the people that came at 8:55 were seated and attended to without any hesitation. Dinner started with some tasty bread and a small booze drink – don’t ask me what, I don’t drink – while I had the duck breast special as my main course. It was excellent and filling; I didn’t even need the steak knife Mervin brought over. Speaking of Mervin, the service was great. It was attentive without being hover-y and other staff came by often to refill water. Mom enjoyed both her Caesar Salad and her Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. The Island Punch drink I ordered for her also went over well, so give that a try.

This almost upscale restaurant has a welcoming interior. Great views, cozy seating, and pianist make for a wonderful environment. The complimentary champagne it a nice touch. Unfortunately, the food is subpar and the service is disorganized and inefficient.

The main restaurant at the Mission Point Resort is called Chianti. The service at Chianti is truly attentive, polite, and friendly. We received many complimentary extras while we dined there — glasses of champagne, focaccia bread with garlic and olive oil, ice cream sundaes for the kids — all delivered with a genuine friendliness from the wait staff. I really enjoyed the fettucine alfredo with wild mushrooms in a parmesan cream sauce, which was not quite as heavy as most alfredo sauces. I also must give a shout-out to the island punch. I’m not much of a drinker, but wow that was good! For families staying at the resort, here’s the best part: kids eat free, and they’ll be treated with warmth and humor.

Great view both inside and out. The food was very good and while the staff was formal when it came to etiquette they were also personal at the same time. We enjoyed it very much and will recommend it to our friends. No complaints.

Very disappointed in the experienced. Service was poor, the staff seemed very disorganized. The filet mignon we ordered was overcooked. They also forgot our bread at the beginning. Try the Wood first if you only have time for one dinner.

We had a great dinner at Chianti! Our waiter Simon was so attentive. The fettucine was really yummy. My husband had the whitefish and my sister had the pork tenderloin. Both enjoyed their meals. We’d go back for sure!

We shared the crab cakes as an appetizer. There were 3 of them about the size of a scallop. They were just ok. We also had the beef ravioli which was delicious. Very friendly wait staff. Overall good experience

The service was terrific, but the much touted Chef Keith was a huge disappointment. The food was mediocre. Granted we had the limited choices on the early bird menu, but based on reviews I expected a culinary adventure. The food was far from it.

My husband and I decided to go to Chianti based on the reviews alone, and we were not disappointed! We did the early bird special — which at $ 23.95 per person for a glass of wine, soup or salad, and an entrée is a steal! My husband had a glass of cab, wedge salad, and the semolina dusted whitefish which was all fantastic. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio, Caesar salad, and pork tenderloin — delicious! Not to mention they bring a tray with rosemary focaccia bread and baked garlic cloves with 2 small glasses of prosecco to the table as soon as you’re seated. We were stuffed by the time we left, and our grand total was $ 50.77! Can’t beat that for a great meal, attentive service, and a lovely view!

Not many restaurants get unanimous five star reviews, so I had to experience Chianti and wow! Am I glad I did. The room is pretty, the food is wonderful, the view is spectacular, the live pianist sparkles, and the complimentary prosecco is fun. But the service is what makes this place perhaps the best restaurant I’ve ever been in. Elegant, warm, fun not stuffy: Chianti has the best staff going. BETTERTHANTHEGRAND(more personal, less of a big production). Drop everything and go eat there! Simon, Devon, and their suave boss will see that you are relaxed, well treated, and well fed.

Wow! My husband and I were visiting the island for the weekend and staying at the grand hotel. We did not like the choices in our dining room so we looked on Unilocal for alternatives. This restaurant had such great reviews we had to see for our selves. It’s was quite a walk but the scenery is beautiful. Tucked away In what used to be a school/university is a beautiful resort with a fabulous restaurant. The service was impeccable the food so delicious. The ambiance perfect. We will be frequent visitors when back in mackinaw.

My wife and I love great Italian food. We were immediately greeted with a smile by the friendly hostess. She ensured that our table overlooked the dazzling lake. The view combined with the soft, live piano music made for a relaxing evening. The staff were attentive, ensuring that our water glasses were never less than 2⁄3 full, offering complimentary glasses of the chef’s choice prosecco to whet our appetites. The focaccia bread with roasted garlic, olive oil, and herbs was delicious. We ordered the Brandy Alexander and Old Fashioned — both made to perfection. The Tuscan Onion soup was deliciously cheesy, though the proportion of cheese to broth could have done with a bit more broth. The Duck Pâté was delectable and the portions of Pâté were generous. The fig jam accentuated the creaminess of the Pâté. Humorously, we ordered a vegan entrée to share with each other. We figured we needed to make up for enjoying the Pâté. The entrée was Orecchiette and it was to die for. The mushrooms and baby spinach were perfectly seasoned and the olive oil complimented the tomatoes. Overall excellent experience.

This is my 1st Unilocal review, I’m compelled to share this experience :-). We are the first guests of the season so there was plenty of time to meet the staff and chef. I ordered the braised short ribs and it was by far the best I have ever had. The chef, Keith, shared the 3hr prep process with me and there’s a lot of tlc that goes into this. My gf had the filet mignon and that was also VERY well prepared. The staff is very nice and there is a pianist in the dining room, just an excellent experience. As we sat down I asked ‘what is a popular appetizer’ and our server responded ‘whatever you order’ since we are the first diners of the season and hinted at the Sambuca shrimp. An excellent app, 3 shrimp, served to our table on fire. Very flavorful. Give this restaurant a try on your next trip to Mackinaw!

After the terrible dinner last night, I was a bit shy in suggesting thee Chianti. But we walked down there anyways… it’s a bit outside of the main part of town, and the resort is huge! I was turned off before we even entered. The place seemed so corporate. However… please read on. We were met at the Chianti by a great host who kidded us from the beginning. He told us that without reservations he couldn’t seat us… obviously a joke. We were seated on the terrace… I had no idea that we would be overlooking the water… and it was absolutely beautiful. The water was just so calm. Our waiter was Mervin. He started out a bit serious, but ended up so much fun. We had the early bird dinner which was a choice of salad/soup and entrée and a glass of wine. Did I mention that I had the best martini ever before dinner. Just excellent. I had the Italian salad, and the pasta with chicken and shrimp. My husband had the pork tenderloin and the Caesar salad. My salad was so good. Great presentation. And light. My dinner was also excellent. The vodka sauce was light but had great flavor. The pasta was fresh and excellent. Dinner was beautiful. Have to give a shout out to Mervin. He was one of those waiters who made the dinner complete. This is a bit of a walk, but really, Highly recommend. I really don’t think you will be disappointed. Especially compared to the other restaurants in town. Enjoy!

Chianti has a wonderful atmosphere, especially with its live pianist. The couple times I’ve been here all have been wonderful. Staff is very helpful and friendly. I have food allergies, and while this was merely mentioned to the waiter, the chef came out along with my food. He specially prepared a dairy free plate for me, which was not only very thoughtful, but delicious. I’ve also come to Chianti for the«Early Bird Special». You are given a soup/salad, entrée, and glass of wine for about $ 23. The dishes available for this are marked on the menu.

Excellent food at Chianti. The seafood pasta Brodeto was teeming with clams, shrimp and mussels. The sauce flavor elevates the seafood, not drench it. It was very well done. The roasted beet salad excellent as well. My partner had the whitefish which to me tasted like like a different fish to my delight since I normally find it bland. We were able to sample the corn, fava bean and bacon side that comes with the scallops. That’s the kind of delicious, hearty food I could live on. Chianti was really well done, surprising for a resort restaurant but it stands on its own.

Delicious food and upscale dining. It was a bit of a wait to get in without a reservation but the food certainly made up for it. Fairly pricey but that is the only negative. Well worth the hike away from the downtown.
