Have the breakfast pastry and it was absolutely great I had sausage gravy with it and sour cream to make it even better. The service was terrific The eating area was small but there was plenty a room to get around and very very clean. We are taking home frozen pasty’s

To start, I have some questions about this place. Their spelling of ‘pastie’ as well as their take on the crust that they seem to have created themselves. Why? Getting to the pasty, the crust is thin and flimsy, which goes back to their own folded over version. Everything else is good. The meat-to-veggie ratio is the best part, but the crust takes it down a notch for The Pasty Guy. As a bonus, tasted fine without any additives(ie. ketchup, gravy) This is the original spot, but they’ll soon have three shops, one of them being in St. Ignace. Maybe not the best, but a worthy contender for anyone near the bridge.

Beef pasties are the original, but this place also had chicken and veggie. They originated from food miners ate. Very friendly staff. Pretty wheelchair accessible, although we didn’t check out the restroom. Ordered a beef pasty meal to go. It came with a cup of gravy, coleslaw, and choice of cookie. I got the oatmeal cranberry walnut cookie, which was the best part of the meal. Coleslaw was good too. Wasn’t a fan of the gravy or pasty, but it maybe because I’ve never had it before so I’m not used to it. My sister liked the pasty but not the gravy. The gravy was a bit salty and had an unfamiliar flavor. The pasty was a mixture of beef, onions, and potatoes wrapped inside a hard tortilla thin flour batter. The stuffing wasn’t dry but the shell was. Got confused with two locations on Unilocal with similar names. This one was closer to the visitors’ center. A sign outside says fudge, but I didn’t see any inside. Perhaps it’s seasonal. They had a small gift shop with souvenirs, maple syrup, honey, dried cherries, popcorn, etc.

We have been coming here for years and unfortunately it will be our last trip. The crust was okay but the rest was terrible. Meat & potatoes were flavorless and gravy would have been better from a jar. Another childhood memory lost.

Stopped for lunch. The beef pasty was greasy. The crust was not flaky and was just folded instead of the traditional crimped crust. I recommend skipping and get a pasty from the UP. Kids loved the cookies though.

Not very good. Thin pastry that was dry. The potatoes looked like they were bought. They were perfect little cubes. Don’t bother with the gravy. Tastes like they got it from a jar. The worst part was burping the meat/onions all afternoon. If this is the best in Mackinaw City it’s worth paying the bridge toll($ 4 each way) to get a good pasty in the UP

Wanted a place to easily get delicious pasties in Mackinaw City, and found this one on Unilocal. We loved it! They have some unusual preparations too, such as Italian, but when it comes to pasties, we are strictly traditional & got beef with beef gravy. The pie crust — light & flaky! The filling – moist and delicious, not dry like some we have had before. So good, when we were done, we bought 6 frozen & their insulated bag at $ 3.99 to take them home in. Very convenient, easy location, and hopped right on southbound I-75 afterward. We will always visit them now when we are in Mackinaw City!!!

Delicious food and friendly service. I have 2 picky eaters who refused to try a pasty, the woman waiting on us told them if they tried they’d get a fresh baked cookie, so nice!

The pasties here are great. They even have a vege/cheese option. Tasty cookies too. Very friendly staff too. Would definitely recommend to others.

What’s good: right off of 75, 1st exit south of the bridge so easy and fast on and off if you are driving through, Nice staff, very clean(including the restrooms), filling, reasonable prices What’s not; as noted by others the dough is not what is used for pasties. It isn’t bad but isn’t flakly. It is thin and flat. I would givee the place 2 stars for the crust(the best part of a pastie) and 4 stars for everything else. I would stop again because of the positives.

Good & fast food — unique with a international flair(Italian, Stroganoff or Mexican?). A Pastie is about the size of a burrito. There was more potato than beef in mine, but still tasty! I’d come again! :-)

We knew we had to have pasties when we came up north and this is where we immediately headed for dinner upon our arrival. I can’t say I know what a really good pastie tastes like but I thought these were pretty good. We both had the pastie meal with gravy, cole slaw and a cookie. The only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is that I think the crust could have been a bit thicker as I really enjoy the crust on pastries of all sorts.

After reading all the great reviews, this place was a must try, and conveniently located right next to our hotel. My husband and I ordered the meal, which includes a pastie with gravy,(we both had the beef) homemade coleslaw, and your choice of cookie. It is a large portion so plan on left overs! The pastie IMO was bland very bland. The vegetables inside were diced very small, and the gravy tasted as if it were from a jar. My husband had the oatmeal raisin cookie and raved about it. Maybe, I am a pastie snob, but in my defense my mother made these all the time, using sirloin beef tips, homemade pastry dough, and savory vegetables. I would go back and try their other selections.

These are not the best pasties I’ve had, but they are good. Ok, really it’s their crust that I didn’t like. I’m a crust snob and this was not my favorite crust by far. The inside mix was very tasty and I like that they had some different options like sour cream and chive(dried) for toppings. The pasties are very good sized. The cookie we had was ok and tasty, but nothing special. Service was quick and friendly even on a super busy day. In all, a good place to get some food, but not something I’ll dream about returning to.

The pasties are huge, you won’t need more than one! Good food for a good price, nothing exceptional but definitely acceptable.

Went to Mackinac Island for a mini Fall getaway and Mackinaw Pastie and Cookie Co. was on my «must try» list. I had no idea what a pasty was until I saw reviews for this place on Unilocal. We had dinner here on our first night in Mackinaw City. I had the stroganoff pastie and my husband had the italian. Both were delicious and filling. For those unfamiliar with pasties, a pastie is a baked pastry that is filled with beef, sliced or diced potato, swede(also known as a yellow turnip or rutabaga) and onion, seasoned with salt and pepper, and is baked. Don’t leave Mackinac Island without trying pasties at least once. Now I’m wondering if Chicago has a pastie place…

A Pasty place? I had to come in here! And I wasn’t disappointed. While not the best Pasty I had all trip, it was very good and I really enjoyed it. I just got the basic beef Pasty, with gravy, Cole slaw, and a couple of cookies for the road. All were good, especially the cookies, though very crumbly. I would have gotten a breakfast Pasty if there was such a thing but this place had no breakfast foods, zero. It’s a very casual, almost fast-food-place atmosphere, very outdoorsy in décor. Most people seemed to be getting theirs to go, some ordering by the dozen. I’d definitely come back here next trip. I wish they were open later though, so I wouldn’t be stuck eating at that Audie’s for late evening dining. This is much better and lots cheaper.

We had already had pasties for lunch on the day we visited Mackinaw Pastie and Cookie, but we just couldn’t pass up the chance to get some more of this delish food before heading south. This joint is cleverly located right as you’re about to get on I-75 from Mackinaw City. It’s small, but it’s no smoking(a rarity in Michigan, as I discovered on this trip) and friendly. The pasties are excellent and come with cole slaw and a cookie. They were much better than the ones we had on Mackinac Island. There are some unique variations on the traditional pasty available, such as an Italian pasty with sauce and cheese, and a Mexican pasty with cheese and sour cream. Good stuff!
