While on a trip to Macomb to visit my cousin who attends the university, I was told this was one of the few really notable restaurants in town. I was immediately impressed by the large selection of items on the menu ranging from all varieties of asian food. They even had a great selection of hand rolled, house made sushi. We got the WIU roll(a vegetarian roll) which was topped with mango and a spicy sauce. Would highly suggest if you’re not a big fan of fish but want to try some sushi! For the entrée, I got the sesame chicken. I was highly tempted to get one of the Thai dishes as I’m a huge fan of Thai food, but I went the safe route and ordered the sesame. I was not disappointed, but I will definitely opt for one of the more off the wall choices next time! We also upgraded to fried rice instead of the standard white. Totally worth it! As for drinks, I had a saki version of a piña colada and was totally satisfied. I would totally get that again… and again… and again…

Good prices, good service, very tasty sushi! I haven’t had a bad experience here yet, and I really enjoy the lunch specials, a lot of food and good bang for your buck! You can watch them make the sushi fresh and what I had tasted very very good.

I hadn’t eaten here since they opened… now I eat there all the time! Delivery is still hot when they arrive! Really good!

By Macomb standards, very good food. I love the hot and sour soup. The sushi is flavorful and fresh. I always opt for the salmon, hamachi, spicy salmon, or shrimp tempura rolls. The Chinese food is decent, I typically get sesame chicken. They also make their drinks strong. Fairly priced. It’s crowded during the dinner hours, so I try to go a little later, typically.

I’m not sure why this place has gotten such a bad rep. I have gone here about 10 times since it opened a year and a half ago when I started grad school. The place is clean(bathrooms too), friendly staff(Chinese, haven’t had one of the American waiters yet), good food, and good prices. The interior is nice and trendy for Macomb. I lived in China for a few years and it isn’t all authentic, but it’s a great American Chinese place. Many dishes are authentic for China too. The dumplings, hot pot, kung pao chicken, and a few others. They also deliver which is nice. Delivery takes about 30 minutes, even though they will say 35 – 45 minutes.

Not impressed at all. Service was average except the server smelled like an ashtray. Food was blah smothered in some type is sauce which turned the breaded«chicken» into mush. Egg roll was crap also just shredded cabbage in an egg roll wrapper. Price was average. On to why I give one star. Cleanliness is not a priority at this place. The bathroom was so dirty and as I walked in the bathroom the smell of sewer gas was overwhelming. The dining room was a mess and our seats had food all over them. It was 11a.m. So it was not from a busy shift.

If you’re allerigic to Oranges, please read so you don’t make the same mistake I did!!! I’ve eaten here a few times, but the thing that was terrifying for me was the General Tso’s and the Orange chicken are the EXACTSAMETHING, and the waiter avoided my question. I’m allerigic to oranges and I was unaware of that and I had eaten most of my plate until I found an orange peel. when I brought it up to the waiter, he didn’t even care. .that was not a fun rest of the day fort me for me at all.

Growing up in a cultured family I love Chinese. This dried up chicken is nothing even close to Chinese. They put far more effort in décor and the white kids outfit than actually making food. It was overpriced for the food quality. Not at all authentic. Would not recommend this to my dog. I am shocked that people actually go here.

Great sushi! Go during the lunch hours for the best prices. Great marinated chicken stick, miso soup, and crab rangoon as well. Macomb definitely doesn’t have the best places to eat, but Yummy Chens makes this town a lot better. If I am going to spend my money to go out to eat, it would be at Yummy Chens.

I’ve kept eating here weekly, and the only consistency is in my visits. The filling in the crab rangoons has decreased even more! And last night, the kung pao chicken, which normally has numerous chili peppers in it, had three. Also, kung pao chicken usually has peanuts in it, last night, not one to be found. And instead of peanuts, I found some mushrooms. Until the consistency of their food gets better, I will be taking my Asian food business across town, although not as flavorful, but at least I know what I will be getting!!!

Service is impeccable, food and ambiance are excellent. If I could, I would eat at this establishment at least once a week. Our entire family enjoys everything about this place, as well! Even young children enjoy eating here! Bön appetite!

I have only nice things to say about this place The inside has been completely gone over, the menu has changed for the better and it now includes Thai food. I found that the staff is most accommodating and will do what is needed to make your experience Pleasant.

I’ve come here 3 different times and here are my experiences: First time: It was only 1 other table seated in the restaurant. We were seated and received the menus and the server didn’t come back I had to call for him across the room after about 15 – 20 minutes went by. We ordered General Tso and sushi and it was good especially to be from a restaurant in Macomb. After we ate we waited again for the server to clear the table and gives us a check again I had to call him over to do so because he was taking so long. Second time: I ordered one sushi roll for delivery. The food was to be delivered on campus which is about a 3 – 4 minute drive from Yummy CHENS. I ordered at 6:15 and didn’t receive the food until 8pm. They gave me the food for half for the wait. I opened my food and it was the wrong order. When I called back they gave me $ 10 to my next purchase. Third time: I came in to use my $ 10 and the server told me I could only use it for take out and not dine in. After speaking with the manager she allowed me to use it for dine in. The service I then received was bad again. The food is good I think all can agree on that but the service is so bad. The servers are still having a hard time with English and they can’t answer questions about the menu. They never come to check on you and you have to request a check. If you do go have patience you’ll need it.

I wish I had better things to say… The food is great for Macomb standards but the service is absolutely atrocious. The people are nice. But they don’t know how to provide good customer service in a timely manner. Last night we waited for an hour just to be seated — that was after we flagged down the lady to put our name on the list because no one greeted us or was paying attention to the people walking in. We would have waited longer but some friends let us join them at their table. Once seated we waited another 25 minutes before a server came to our table to get our drink orders. After finally ordering our food it was another 45 minutes before we ate. In total we waited TWOHOURS between arriving and eating. To top it off, the next day we decided to call and order some sushi to go. The guy answered and said«Yummy Chen’s delivery» then proceeded to tell us that they would not be doing any delivery or to go orders. When we asked to speak to the manager we waited for about 5 minutes before being told that the manager was not in and we can call back tomorrow. It makes no sense to me that they don’t want to take my $ 40 order and save a table. We were going to pick up our food as well. Extremely disappointed in the service here. It seems like they just cannot get their act together — no one there seems to have a set job and the customers lose out because no one can tell or seems to care if the customers have been helped or not. I will be calling back tomorrow to speak to a manager as I have never had service this bad.

I loved the food! It was fresh and delicious! I’ve been there a few times and each time was different. Now, the food was great each time, but the service… The first time my boyfriend and I went, and it was busy, but our server was excellent! The second time, it was a dead hour and what seemed to be short of servers? I wasn’t sure who my server was the entire time. I was seated by the host and my boyfriend and I sat there for about 6 to 10 minutes before being helped. Our host came back and asked for our drinks. THEN another woman came and took our order, and we received our drinks 5 minutes after placing our order. We ordered an appetizer and it arrived with my dish and was served to my boyfriend, then a few minutes later his dish arrived. Not only was it disorganized, but yet another strange person brought it out to us! That’s 3 different people who served us! But after that, we waited FOREVER for our bill. We had to flag someone down and ask for it, because no one there seemed to care if we enjoyed our meal. That time was dreadful. I almost didn’t go a third time, because of the previous experience. But, I decided that since the first time was wonderful, maybe the second visit was just a bad day. So I went again, for the third time. Food, great. Service… it was mediocre. Overall, I would prefer take out, rather than dine in because of the service. Which make this place just another Asian restaurant. Before their grand opening, I was excited to go to a place that wasn’t a buffet, and offered more than take out. It seemed like a great place to dine in and enjoy their food in a different atmosphere, other than my couch. I really wish that the service didn’t make me judge so harshly, but it was terrible.

Really good! I tried the California rolls, which were great. Also, I tried the wonton soup; it had veggies and shrimp in the soup, but it didn’t have a fishy taste — it was incredible. I’ve also had the general tso with their fried rice, and again spectacular! Only thing I would change is the egg drop soup; the broth was too oily.

The restaurant replaced Yen Ching, which was a bit divey, but had the best Chinese and Thai food in town. So I am going to make comparisons. Yummy Chen’s food quality seems a bit cheap, a bit bland, and overly sweet. Yen Ching had flavorful and authentic Chinese and Thai. The egg drop soup was awful, just a thick chicken stock that tasted a bit off. How is that soup? Yen Ching’s egg drop soup was flavorful and had vegetables and water chestnut. Good crab rangoon is something I am a stickler about. Lin’s Garden is way too sweet, Yummy Chen’s is also sweet. If I had choice, I would go with Hong Kong Express or Hy-Vee. So sad to see Yen Ching go, they had the best crab rangoon in town. Yummy Chen’s is supposed to serve Thai food, but I never have seen any since they opened and the sign on door says unavailable. Yen Ching had amazing Chicken Pad Thai, sadly I can not have that anymore. I am a bit of a tea snob. So fountain ice tea and tea bag green tea is not very good at Yummy Chen’s, and you have to pay for it. Yen Ching you got complementary hot jasmine tea that was amazing. The décor is nice, but the food is just not that good. Think of it as a bit better than Asian Buffet. Not as good as Lin’s Garden on a good day, better than Lin’s Garden on a good day. Lin’s Garden has given good food and just awful food I could not eat. Lin’s Garden is cheaper in price, again really not that good either. I am really saddened by Yen Ching not getting the business Yummy Chen’s has. The owners were great people and the food was the best in town. I’m probably going to end up eating more at Hong Kong Express or cooking Chinese at home. I being a white American can cook better Chinese than Chen. Yummy Chen’s just isn’t that yummy.

Incredibly impressed today after a much anticipated opening! Customers were 1 in 1 out, it was extremely busy-I’ve never seen this location so full. Service was great with little to no improvements to be had, especially since it was their first advertises opening date. The food was fresh(we had Mongolian beef and General Tso) and and the lunch special was a steal including the lunch sashimi. Sushi was thick cut which isn’t our preference and they don’t have apricot sweet and sour sauce(bummer) but the renovations, food, and service will make me a loyal customer very quickly. Way to go Yummy Chen’s!
