This place has been around all my life. Of course there is allman brothers stuff everywhere! Just a local, nothing fancy spot to have a good meal. It has been recently purchased by a local management company, and it doesn’t seem to have that Moma Louise touch anymore. It doesn’t seem as homey. But the food was fine and I enjoyed my breakfast

Visting from San Diego for my family reunion. All I can say is «wow». My family and I really enjoyed this place. Hell… I could relocate to the east coast just to have breakfast here every day.

I normally would not take the time to write a review but this old favorite place of mine has disappointed me so. I drive 30 miles to frequent this place and I will no longer. The food used to be great but it’s slipping. It’s not as fresh as it used to be & not cooked with care. Most of all the service just basically sucks. This place is getting by only on the Allman Bros. fame! Without that it would close. I give a place 3 strikes & I’m done. I have experienced problems the last 3 times I’ve been there. Went for breakfast one morning & couldn’t get the server to take our order for almost 30 minutes it was just my Mom & myself. But the servers were doting on the male customers & ignoring us. Then when breakfast comes out they leave items off of your plate that us supposed to come with your meal(tomatoes & the«chow-chow» topping). That has happened 4 times! Then you have to ask for it. The next time was about 2 months ago. A local celebrity was in there taking up half the restaurant for a photo shoot & interview… at 12:00 lunch time! So there was nowhere to sit & it was loud & annoying trying to eat. Lastly was yesterday. The place closes at 3:00…well after visiting a terminally ill family member at the hospital across the street I talked my party into going to my old favorite place to eat bragging on them so. We walked in at 2:14 pm there was only one other person in there eating. The cooks & the server looked at us & frowned at our entrance. The server did nor take our order until 2:40. She came back to our table twice to tell us that they were out of… mashed potatoes. .field peas… okra…and caramel cake! Geez what the hell is left? My uncle complained & our server told him that it’s 10 minutes to closing & they’re busy at lunch & that’s just the way it goes& sorry we’re not happy but that we walked in at 2:40& they close at 3:00.WHAT? I was livid! I almost argued with her but just at that moment decided I’ll NEVER come back. How rude!!! It’s like this… if you’re that damn busy & out of everything. …CLOSEAT2:00!!! Then you won’t have to make crappy faces at customers coming in before 3:00! There are too many good eats in downtown Macon to go back there. Since Mama Louise don’t run it any longer. …it’s not the same. This place has gotten too big of an ego… not that great. Jeanine’s & Bear’s Den beats this place hands down. H& H won’t get my money or praises anymore.

My husband was in Macon on business and I thought we’d try a local spot for breakfast. I really dug the Allman Brothers Band connection to and the history of H & H and I’m always down for some good soul food. We were there on a Saturday, late morning, and the place was full but there was no wait. Lots of interesting riffs on old breakfast standards. We were in a hurry so we made our selections quickly with only a perfunctory glance over the menu and even though bacon jam, pimento cheese and other biscuit accoutrements stood out as intriguing, I kept it straightforward with country-fried steak and gravy, cheese grits, and a biscuit. Incredible crust and flavor on the steak, gravy a tad watery to me, grits were soulful and the biscuit was as I’d hoped. Hubs had corned beef hash — house made — egg whites, and cheese grits. Simple home style food — done well, done fresh — is some of my favorite and nothing we tried disappointed. I don’t know if it seemed to take a little extra bit of time to get our food because we were in a hurry, or if enjoying all that made-with-love goodness requires your patience, but breakfast was worth the wait. Gobs of ABB, as well as other rock bands’, memorabilia completely lined the walls. The atmosphere was laid back, the location is nostalgic, and the service was friendly. I liked it.

Best fried chicken I have had in many years. So crispy on the outside it made a large noise when you bit into it while it was moist on the inside. The collard greens were great also. We were lucky in getting the last table for lunch.

Small portions for what you pay. They were out of a lot of items, Rolls and multiple side dishes. No Mac and cheese or fried okra on a Saturday? Not what I expected from a soul food place. It is a chain restaurant, trying to look like a soul food dive. Few good marks, great fried chicken and nice manager or cook… He did come over and apologize for the long wait and mistake made on my check…

Simple home cooked soul food with the musical history that brings out of towners and locals alike back for the experience. Lots of Allman Brothers memorabilia up for display on the wall! Breakfast for me is where H & H hits the mark, and they have a newly redesigned breakfast biscuit menu with several more options to choose from. I recently tried the Midnight Rider that’s made with Dovetail’s bacon jam and oh man, that’s the biscuit you write home about, y’all! Fried chicken, pimento cheese, and add an egg to it for perfection on a biscuit! Ask for some of the homemade preserves and try them on your biscuit, or order a separate biscuit for them as ‘dessert’. The fire roasted apple slices will do the trick here too. Lunch is a typical meat plus two sides offering with meats and sides on a rotation by day. You can check their menu online ahead of time for which are available each day of the week. It’s a lot of food, and a meat plus one side is more than enough for me but you can also take leftovers home if you can’t decide or want a meal with more variety. Prices here are so reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get! $ 10 should get you a hefty meal, including a drink, either for lunch or breakfast. Can’t beat that for a sit down meal of good olé home cookin’.

It is what it is and it ain’t what it ain’t. I don’t know any way to say it other than that. I don’t eat there for two reasons: I’m from the no sugar in my cornbread camp and their collards are not prepared using the long method. Other than that, it is what it claims to be and it is decent.

I think this was the best soul food I have ever eaten. Initially I went just because of the Allman Brothers relationship to the restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was fantastic. Order the squash casserole… So good!

Read recently H and H is the most iconic restaurant in all of GA because of its ties to rock legends like the Allman Brothers and Otis Redding. Worth going to for the experience but IMO the food is nothing to make me feel a need to go a lot. To me there are better soul food options and places that offer better breakfast menus.

Love the breakfast. Super cheap prices and never super busy. A simple breakfast. Nothing fancy but good. I almost always get the same thing, I can never eat it all. The pancakes are good size and they come with some fancy honey butter

Very interesting local establishment. Stooped in for breakfast they opened at 7am sharp. Very casual place. Had corned-beef over grits… Fantastic! I’ve been told they shine even more for lunch will try that if I stay in Macon a few more days.

I find myself here for breakfast a couple of times a week. They have wonderful pancakes. The pancakes are always the same each time I order them. They have the slightest bit of sweetness to them. Another dish I like is corned beef hash over grits. I have never had this at another restaurant. It is an excellent combination. They also have homemade preserves that I always request. As it’s said, «eat like a King for breakfast, a prince for lunch and a pauper for dinner.» I definitely eat like a King for breakfast here.

Good lord. This place was a gem. Had fried chicken, mac n cheese, collards, deviled eggs, and caramel cake for dessert. It was decadent and just perfectly greasy and buttery. Great southern food. Tasted the chicken and dumplings and fried pork chops of my compatriots, and those were similarly delish. The caramel cake wasn’t too caramel-ey…it had a hint of maple, which I love. The cornbread left me underwhelmed — a little too dry. Service was fantastic, especially considering we were a raucous group of 18 criminal defense lawyers. Simple seating and menu. My chicken was slightly dry as well, but the seasoning was on point. Overall, a great place, will be back. Oh, if you want beer — the serve has to run down the street to a sister location to get it, so… no alcohol here.

Items Ordered: Fried Chicken Collards Mac n Cheese Sweet Tea This was a very straightforward, perfectly portioned meal. The fried chicken was superb: great skin and still moist on the inside. The collards were thick and leafy, which is unlike any I’ve ever had elsewhere. The mac n cheese was just mac n cheese, but that’s not saying anything from me, as I’ve never really been a mac n cheese guy. The sweet tea was perfect. Couldn’t have asked for a better meal!

H&H has been a favorite of mine since going to college at Mercer. The first reason it’s such a rare find is the history of the place. The Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band, and many other southern rock bands were known to frequent this place near the Capricorn records studio. Second, the staff is friendly, attentive with a perfect amount of southern hospitality. Third, the simplicity nothing fancy, simple menu meat and 3 style, but what the do, they do very well! Most importantly the food, the fried chicken is to die for, some of the best I’ve ever had, the country fried steak done to perfection with amazing gravy. Collards, green beans, corn casserole biscuits and corn bread round out the choices. All of this for around 7 bucks a head. For soul food in Macon it’s my go to and recommendation every time!

Saw this soulfood restaurant on Unilocal on our way to Atlanta. Arrived early as the first customers. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered their famous chicken biscuit with all the fixings(including a fried egg on top) and a side of cheese grits. Now the fresh and juicy chicken biscuit combo was great with fresh preserves on the side. The only improvement needed was to season the chicken before its fried to develop full flavor. The cheese grits also needed seasoning(salt and pepper) and were too watery/thin for my taste.

This place has gotten a facelift and has become the local hotspot once again. Breakfast is so amazing– fluffy homemade biscuits, homemade jam, crispy fried chicken and creamy dreamy cheesy grits. I usually get a chicken biscuit the size of half my face, grits and eggs for less than $ 6. That beats chickfila any day… and 10X the quality. Definitely check this place out if you stop in Macon– you won’t regret it.
