There is a lot about this school that is very good. They try to instill confidence, leadership, and discipline. I will admit that my son has gone there for years. However, the reason is because I love the staff, and the school has given my son some stability and good friendship that he needs – not because of the quality of karate education he has received. The class sizes are far too large for the students to get the individual attention that they need to learn to defend themselves. It is far too overpriced for what you get, and they milk parents for every possible nickel and dime they can squeeze.(Parent’s nights, out, tournaments, overpriced equipment, «specialty» classes, etc.) The belt tests are a farce – if the students show up and don’t act out of line, they pass, regardless of how strong their form is. I wish I had chosen a different school for my son, one that is more reasonabily priced where he receives more one-on-one help from quality adult instructors.

We have been part of the Alexander’s Martial Arts family for almost 4 years. My son has grown and blossomed into a strong and confident individual thanks to so many positive things this school has offered. Such as Master’s and leadership class. Let me not forget the instructors! One in particular did an outstanding job in my son’s Master and Advance class last night, Andre Stewart! The kids responded so well to him while he gave then a nice touch of physical activity and a great overall rounded and sound class! A lot of positive energy!

If you’re looking for a place to send your kids for something to do and get them away from you for a while, you might be interested in this«school». If you want your kid to actually learn self defense, this place is a massive waste of money. Once upon a time I used to attend a martial arts academy. We learned how to actually defend ourselves. This means proper form and application as well as getting into shape. At Alexander’s, all my kid learned to do was flap his limbs about ineffectually in the air while yelling. His form was never corrected. They did almost no exercise. He was a yellow belt within months and still couldn’t throw a proper punch or kick. Oh, and sparring is extra money on top of what you’ve already paid. Oh, and this applies to half of the actual class as well. You need to buy your child these toy weapons fairly often so he can do half of what they do in class. So your child can learn to flail about toys in the air as well as their limbs. It took me approximately 40 minutes to show my child more self defense than he received in 8 months of maximum attendance at Alexander’s. Do not recommend. As a rule of thumb, any martial arts school that wants you to sign a contract is likely not a very good school. You shouldn’t be coming to a school because you’re contractually obligated to do so. You should should be there because it’s worth the time and money.

If you’re looking for a well-rounded martial arts school, I highly recommend Alexander’s Martial Arts. They have something for everyone, for children, teens, and adults. My daughter has been taking karate at Alexander’s for a little over a year now, and she has gained so much confidence! She loves the black belt excellence and Masters programs, and is looking forward to continuing her martial arts training at Alexander’s. We are very impressed with the staff and instructors – they are very personable as well as professional.
