This fall I saw 40 sandhill cranes hanging out in the cattails. I counted twice. In the spring we saw tons of leatherback turtles in the canal. There are great walking and skiing trails along Lake Webesa. Park at the campground. You’d think, being the recovery ponds for the sewage treatment plant, it would be rank, but the water is «clean» by the time it gets in the ponds. I used to canoe back here to see all the birds, now I walk to them.

We live very close to Edna Taylor. Great way to experience«country» life in our backyard!

A nice get away in a little urban area. Check out the burial mound and enjoy the water fowl.

One of the best kept secrets in Madison! This morning we saw turtles, toads, tons of wildflowers and butterflies, dragonflies, tracks, bunnies, etc. We parked at the Aldo Leopold center and hiked for over an hour through woods, savannah, prairie, alongside duckweed covered ponds, and more. It was an unending discovery zone for my 5 year old boy, and it was all very jogging stroller friendly for my 2 year old. It’s a perfect weather summer Sunday, and we probably saw only 4 other people the whole time!

Nice greenspace! The trails are accessible both at the address above, and south of the playground behind Glendale Elementary. Not for bikes, and not wheelchair friendly, but the trails clean and well maintained. Part of it sprawls across and up the side of hill. and includes an ancient earthwork mound, the rest is dotted with wetland ponds, and the whole thing is laced with trails. Lovely!
