This place is really awesome. They offer a service that is so desperately needed in any community. In short, Freewheel offers free classes on bike maintenance, free bike parts, and even free guidance on building a bike up from scratch. I took advantage of the Build-A-Bike program that they offer. First of all, let it be known that I had zero prior knowledge on bike-anything. I also came to Freewheel in need of a free bicycle(which feels sort of strange, but they are more than happy to help). With the help of their totally amazing and knowledgable mechanic volunteers, I was able to put together a decent hybrid bicycle. I learned a lot about maintenance(how to fix a flat, etc.) just by putting that bike together. Another really nice thing is that if I ever need to replace a part, I can go to Freewheel and dig through their bins and most likely find the part I need for free. These guys are great. **There is a showroom attached to their work space that has complete bikes for sale, as well. So, if you’re not into doing the work yourself, but would rather pay for a bike or maintenance, you can do that as well.

FreeWheel is an amazing place to interact with the bicycle community of Madison, WI! It’s amazing that they offer classes, alongside repair help and top notch information regarding bikes. Without them, I wouldn’t know how to repair my own bike on my own! They really helped me out and saved me a lot of money. I would highly recommend coming here to donate any used bike parts/bikes, and learning how to repair your own bike!
