Over chopped, over cooked, bland, blah BBQ. Honestly noting to see here. Just keep driving.

Fuzzy’s BBQ seems to be going through another down cycle as far as the pork itself is concerned — and this has happened a number of times during the long history of this BBQ joint, which was opened in the mid 1950’s. When Fuzzy Nelson was running this place, the BBQ was consistently good — smoky, moist, tender, with a Lexington style sauce. It was cooked daily, over hickory coals — not sure what they’re doing now, but the result is just very ordinary pork BBQ. The hush puppies are still very good, they serve both kinds of slaw, and the brunswick stew is still meaty and thick. They serve some salads & sandwiches, but the BBQ has always been the draw, and it is just not there anymore, at least for me. With the decline of both Short Sugars & Fuzzy’s, this part of the state has no real authentic NCBBQ being produced here.
