Mama Hamil’s truly serves the best SOUTHERNFOOD in this area. Their servers are polite, friendly, helpful and professional. Whenever my wife and I have the opportunity we go there. We love MAMAHAMIL’S!

Good buffet ! I had the fried gizzards, greens, fried okra, rice and gravy, creamed corn and ribs. For dessert I had a cinnamon roll. The negative parts were we almost had to sit at the communal pic Nic table, but luckily a booth opened. The other draw back is the huge no gun sign out front. Signs don’t stop criminals.

WOW, I do not normally like a buffet but this is the exception to the rule. Mama’s home cooking is amazing. The pulled pork was so tender melts in your mouth. $ 10 all you can eat veggies chicken meatloaf corn bread and rolls dessert. Yummo! Check it out!

OHMYGOD, I think I gained 10 pounds from just being seated at this place. The buffet here is super southern and little old California me had never had legitimate southern cuisine before so I went a little crazy. Got a taste of everything and now I think I can safely say I know what southern food tastes like. The desserts here are TODIEFOR.

A large group of us headed here for lunch because we were told it was some of the best fried chicken we’d have and she wasn’t lying! The buffet was very extensive and I constantly saw servers tending to it and adding more food. My favorite items from the buffet were the fried chicken, ribs, the salad w/blueberries and cranberries and the mashed potatoes. And save room for dessert! I tried the peach cobbler, bread pudding and the bananas foster and they were all to die for! Ugh, now if only I could take Mama Hamil’s back to Baltimore with me…

Superb. In every aspect, this place has it all. Great service and awesome delicious food that will literally make you think you died and went to heaven, especially the desserts. I have only tried this place once when I was visiting but«It’s awesome baby». It is a must try if you frequent the Madison area or just passing through town. You won’t be sorry. Get there early, parking is limited.

I crave for the southern veggies at Mama’s. Their fried liver is always moist and delicious. Lightly battered, exactly how I like it. Can’t to wrong here if you want some real good southern food. The parking lot is always packed, but not to worry! There’s plenty of seating inside.

The food was great, but the staff was atrocious! Our waitress told my mom to «get the ice herself» after she had already picked her tip up. We paid $ 20 for lunch and weren’t allowed to take a drink to go because«people litter the parking lot with the cups and put food in the cups». We were then told we could purchase a styrofoam cup for an additional $ 2. None of it made sense. When I spoke with the manager, John, he smirked and said«Look, lady…» As a server and hostess, I was appalled! I will never give them another penny, and neither will my family.

Food was very good. The smoked chicken and pulled pork were my favorites. For dessert, you will not go wrong with the bread pudding with almond glaze. The staff wasn’t very friendly, but they weren’t rude either. I would have liked to have felt like they were glad I was there.

My favorite thing about eating here is watching knuckleheads dish food onto their plate at the buffet, getting food on their fingers, lick it off, then dish more food onto their plate with spit on their fingers. Food taste really good though.

Wow! This was truly down home, real deal southern cooking! We’re visiting from Louisiana, where there’s nothing but good food. But this made me feel like I was eating at my Aunt Jerry’s table. My favorite dessert is banana pudding, and this was some of the best I’ve ever had. And the ribs were up there with my Dad’s ribs, and he was a master at cooking good, SMOKED ribs. Really, everything I had was great. And they even had rutabagas! What a treat! Don’t miss this place!

As a visitor from California, Mama Hamil’s was a whole new experience for me! I felt like I got the complete southern food experience through this place: fried chicken that is unlike any other fried chicken I’ve ever had, delicious fried catfish, and more! There’s a good variety of food, ranging from vegetables to meats to all kinds of dessert. This place was a wonderful highlight to my trip!

Mama Hammil’s has huge country charm with a huge country buffet. Fried chicken, ribs, chicken livers, and all the sides you grew up with await you and don’t get me started on the desserts! I could have stolen their dish of banana pudding. Some of the classics are perfection, such as the lima beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and mac n’ cheese. Some are off, such as the potato salad and yams cooked in turnip green juice(it’s just not my thing). I would recommend Mama Hammil’s to anyone wanting a good, calorie rich, Southern meal! My husband and I ate for $ 19.99(that includes tax) so it’s definitely a bang for your buck!

Food is pretty good, but I don’t eat there anymore. I don’t feel safe. The restaurant continues to display a sign prohibiting legal gun permit holders from entering the building. I will not dine there again until they take the sign down.

My wife has been telling me for months I need to try this place. So I finally went. Me and my wife drove from Memphis to Jackson to eat here. It was worth the drive. Sure it is a 3 hour drive from Memphis and then 3 hours back. But I love my wife and she wanted to go! The food was really good. They have a wide selection of food choices. The day I went they have fried chicken, ribs, BBQ chicken, meatloaf and catfish. They have all kinds of vegetables and breads. Of course those with a sweet tooth will not have a problem finding something.

Came here for dinner! It was good home cooking. We’ve been here before, so it was great coming back. I had the fried chicken, mac & cheese, cabbage, green beans, a salad, banana pudding annnnndddd ice cream(WHOA!) It was my only meal of the day. Service was just ok. They weren’t overly friendly or attentive, but it wasn’t horrible either. I’ll be back!

Having read so many favorable Unilocal reviews, I was expecting to eat some really good soul food. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. We had a large group of 12 people and seating was a challenge since it was picnic style(long tables with benches on one side and chairs on the other) and we received no assistance to accommodate the size of our group. The food was marginal at best — although it looked pretty good on my plate. Out of maybe 10 items, the grilled chicken and banana pudding were the only things I thought were tasty. I went on a Thursday night around 6:30pm, so perhaps since they close at 8pm, they were winding down and not preparing quality food. The food was cold and bland for the most part and I wouldn’t likely return whenever I visit Mississippi again.

This restaurant is absolutely incredible… It’s a buffet so you can eat as much food as you’d like… And it is all so delicious… The price is just as great as the food $ 9.00 for the buffet and your choice of drink… Everyone is friendly and the restaurant is kept super clean… This place is wonderful and worth more than one visit.

Looking for a quiet, romantic date? Go elsewhere. Vegetarian? Not the place for you; there is meat — or bits of meat — in most everything. On a diet or allergic to this or that or seeking low fat or want a quiet, private meal? Not here. Haute cuisine? Scram. If you enjoy very well done home style cooking and rubbing elbows with regular, working folks in a bright, boisterous environment, you will love this place. You’ll make new friends for sure. And the food! The food is very good or excellent; the smoked ribs some of the best I ever had. The variety mind-boggling. All you can eat, cafeteria style. Do not be daunted by the chaos of the huge parking lot; the place is equally huge and two levels. And cheap.

Oh my heavens to Betsy! Best.Southern.Buffet.Ever. Just about every great southern comfort food you can think of is offered here and all for one great price. It’s only about $ 9 per person for the buffet and that includes your drink(either tea or soda). The chicken, ribs, and chicken & dumplings are amazing. Juicy chicken, fall off the bone ribs, and chicken & dumplings that aren’t quite as awesome as my mimi’s, but then again, no one can make them like her. Still no complaints from me! Then there’s all the fixins like mashed potatoes & gravy, mac & cheese, baked beans, butter beans, blackeyed peas, okra, creamed corn, etc. etc. etc. The creamed corn is so amazing I could seriously sit down and eat a plate of just that! I always go back for 2nds and 3rds of the creamed corn. That stuff is seriously like crack! Not that I’ve ever tried crack… I’m just sayin’! LOL :P Then there’s the dessert. I am a huge, huge fan of bread pudding. I’ve tried a lot of bread pudding in my lifetime. If I were to give a blue ribbon award for the best bread pudding I’ve ever tasted, Mama Hamil would win hands down! Yes, it’s *that* good. I am not kidding! They have quite a selection of desserts, but since I’m all about the bread pudding, I’ve never paid attention to any of the others. This place is always packed no matter what day of the week it is. They do have some booths, but they also have long picnic style tables inside. So don’t be shy about sitting down with strangers to eat. Everyone will be too busy digging into their food to talk. The servers that come around to bring clean plates, remove dirty plates, and refill your drinks are just the sweetest and have that true southern hospitality just oozing out of them and there’s not one single thing fake about it. You don’t have to worry about your drink being empty either… they stay on top of that! If you ever find yourself in the Jackson, MS area, do yourself and those you are with a favour and have a meal(or two or three) at Mama Hamil’s! It’s in Madison(just north of Jackson), so you may have to drive a bit to get there, but you’ll thank me in the end and say it was well worth the effort! Meals like this don’t just come around all the time! I am completely jealous of those Mississippians who have the luxury of eating here whenever they choose! Mama Hamil, you rock!
